Berkley prides itself on its history and culture, which is promoted by the activities of its very active Cultural Council. » Little Bridge Village Park. This popular riverside park was the result of an innovative compromise crafted by the people of Berkley when a controversial new bridge across the Taunton River was built in 2006. » Solar Businesses. Over the past eight years, the Berkley Board of Selectmen has succeeded in bringing many solar businesses to empty lots in Berkley. » New Town Hall. Berkley’s Challenges » Education Funding. A growing school population, a thin commercial tax base, and COVID-19 related revenue losses have put Berkley’s school budget under enormous pressure. » Transportation. There is no public transit in or out of Berkley, creating a daily challenge for residents who commute out of the town to work. » Lack of Commercial Development. Berkley’s revenue challenges would be alleviated by attracting new businesses to town. » Lack of municipal water and sewers. A key impediment to desired commercial development is the lack of access to public water and sewer.

Alan Khazei is not a politician - he is a movement leader who co-founded City Year and led the national service movement to launch, protect and grow AmeriCorps. Alan is ready on Day One to lead the effort in Congress to protect our environment, ensure affordable healthcare for all, stop gun violence, address racial injustice and restore the American Dream for working families.

Alan’s Plan for Berkley was built by listening to the people of Berkley. In Congress, Alan will: Help restore education funding by passing the Heroes Act in Congress to secure $2,238,763 in funding for Berkley. Fight to include funding in a new infrastructure bill to electrify the public transportation grid in the southeast and accelerate the construction of South Coast rail to spur economic development, tourism, and clean energy jobs across the 4th district. Support small business growth by proposing a small business hiring credit and accelerated depreciation of capital investment for small businesses that hire new workers. Create a Berkley Congressional Advisory Board to stay connected to local issues in Berkley and ensure stakeholder voices are heard in Washington.
