As mentioned in the May Edition, my name is Khijani Williams, and I am honoured and excited to serve as your Jamaica District Governor for the 2022-2023 Administrative Year, Welcome to the Second Edition of my official newsletter 'The Humming Bird' Happy last month of this school year! I know I am excited to get through this month and get a start on my summer vacation. I hope your exams have been going well and I encourage you to stay strong, as we are almost at the end of the tunnel. With exams being our main focus this month, I know we didn't get a chance to serve and get involved as much as we would want to. For me this past month was spent making the most of virtual meetings by attending a number of Kiwanis events. I encourage you all to start making preparations and planning for the Summer, so that you can get involved and serve as much as possible.

HISTORY MISSION
UB U101 B 101 rashcourse
Inclusiveness » We welcome people of all backgrounds and ethnicities to join in serving and making a positive difference in our world Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.
Character Building » Character is built by everyday acts of kindness, integrity and teamwork to grow stronger relationships and communities.
Leadership » Leadership is grounded in humility and service to others. A true leader listens, recognizes, and empowers.
CORE VALUES
Key Club was started by Albert C Olney & Frank C Vincent on May 7, 1925 at Sacramento High School which still exists as a Key Club today. They approached a neighboring Kiwanis club to help charter a similar club for service at their high school. The club was comprised of the key boys in the school, willing to serve the school in any way possible and to create better school spirit hence the name Key Club. In 1943, Key Club reached international status and Malcolm Lewis became the 1st president. STATEMENT
Caring » Compassion for others is a cornerstone of the Key Club experience, inspiring action and service to one’s community.

By 1984, the number of Key Clubs in Jamaica had grown to forty-five (45) with approximately 1,000 members. Because of this rapid growth, the Eastern Canada and Caribbean District Board and Governor believed it would have made it difficult to manage together the Key Clubs in Jamaica along with the clubs in the Caribbean and the Eastern Canada Districts, so the Governor visited Jamaica with a proposal to form a Caribbean District. Upon hearing this proposal, Jamaica made a counter proposal that they would enthusiastically agree to a Jamaica District, accepting the challenge of administering a Jamaica District only.

On a Saturday in October of 1975, an all island Key Club meeting was held at the Ocho Rios High School. The purpose of this meeting was to establish the new “Key Club District of Jamaica” and to adopt the following declarations:
Soon after, the North Western Academy was chartered by the Kiwanis Club of Montego Bay (March 1971), Kingston College which was chartered by the Kiwanis Club of Kingston (March 1974) and Iona High School which was also chartered by the Kiwanis Club of Ocho Rios. By this time, Key Clubs in Jamaica were growing exponentially and these clubs were a part of the Eastern Canada and Caribbean District.
The District Governor Andrew Pairman of the Meadowbrook High School. The District Secretary–Treasurer Janet Walker of the St. Catherine High School. The District Administrator DLG Michael Henrique.

MAJOR EMPHASIS VISION
In 1946, the organization was challenged to build a program to bring together all Key Clubs and members to focus energies on making an international impact. This program is still followed today through the Major Emphasis: Children: Their Future, Our Focus.
To fulfill the Major Emphasis, Key Club International serves children in many ways. By working with Key Club International's partner organizations, Key Clubs serve children by aiding other organizations committed to serving children. Key Club International celebrates its three partnerships: UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Children's Miracle Network.
The Key Club service initiative is another element of the Major Emphasis and is created on a two-year basis All of the hands-on service provided to children by Key Club International members is directed to a single area of need, to make a substantial impact. PARTNERS
