Hey Key Clubbers,

As we head back to school within the next month, I hope you truly utilized your Summer Holiday and that you made memories with friends, fellow Key Clubbers and your family. This is while you continued to serve your homes, schools and communities.

With the start of the new school year, we see the revival of club activities and clubs finally returning to face to face engagements. Theses interactions serve as a defining moment of your Key Club experience in the Jamaica District. I have been honoured to serve as Governor of this amazing District, and I am EXCITED to potentially welcome more members into the KCJA Family! With that being said, I need your help in working towards retaining the current members and recruiting new ones as we work towards increasing membership right across the District.

I'm beyond proud of all that we have achieved thus far and I know that we will see a school year filled with innovation. lol and success ahead!

Hey Jamaica District,

I’m Kavya Sriram from the Carolinas District (specifically North Carolina), and I’m thrilled to be your 2022 2023 Key Club International Trustee A few fun facts about me are that I LOVE the Office (I’ve seen it at least 7 8 times), my favorite album is Speak Now by Taylor Swift, and this’ll be my fourth and final year in Key Club. I look forward to working with the Jamaica District!

This year, the other districts in our Sistrict are Kentucky Tennessee and Michigan. The biggest goals I plan to focus on for our Sistrict this year are member spotlights and recognition, Sistrict bonding nights, and boosting service in partnership with Key Club official partners, through friendly competition and incentives.

And finally, be on the lookout for upcoming Key Club programs, from UNICEF’s Trick or Treat to the Global Engagement Rally! I am truly here to support districts and their incredible work so feel free to reach out anytime!

YOURS IN SERVICE,

I hope that one day I can visit Jamaica and meet you all, but until then, stay excited to continue your service this year!

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FUND keyclubinternational

The YOF, or Youth Opportunities Fund is a Key Club endowment fund housed under the Kiwani's Children's Fund. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the service that needs to be done in your school, community or the world Then apply for a grant.

Grant basics

YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs. Grants are not given to divisions or districts. Grant amounts between US$250 to US$2,000 may be requested. There are two opportunities per year to apply for a grant from the Youth Opportunities Fund.

The applications for the first cycle must be received by October 15 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. The applications for the second cycle must be received by March 1 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

A club cannot receive more than one grant per Key Club year. Applications are reviewed by a Key Club International Board committee. Grant applicants are emailed about outcomes and a list of grant recipients is posted online four weeks following the application deadline (I.e., November and April). The previous year’s dues must be paid before YOF grant checks can be issued. A YOF Final Grant Report is due at the end of the grant cycle to qualify a club for future funding.

In 1943, Key Club reached international status and Malcolm Lewis became the 1st president

MAJOR EMPHASIS

In 1946, the organization was challenged to build a program to bring together all Key Clubs and members to focus energies on making an international impact This program is still followed today through the Major Emphasis: Children: Their Future, Our Focus.

To fulfill the Major Emphasis, Key Club International serves children in many ways. By working with Key Club International's partner organizations, Key Clubs serve children by aiding other organizations committed to serving children. Key Club International celebrates its three partnerships: UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Children's Miracle Network.

The Key Club service initiative is another element of the Major Emphasis and is created on a two-year basis. All of the hands-on service provided to children by Key Club International members is directed to a single area of need, to make a substantial impact.
