This Month’s Events!

3

Kiwanis Easter Hunt

Key Club at Springfield Park had fun with kids by helping out with the egg hunt, races, and food.

Key Club members and little kids were able to participate in all events!

Everyone had a blast, especially with the surprise appearance of the Easter Bunny!

4

QBG Community Volunteer (Queens Botanical Garden)

Key Club at Queens Botanical Garden came together to maintain and tidy up the botany. The day consisted of pulling out invasive weeds, raking, and more!

5

Volunteering at SFCC

(Sustainable Fashion Community Center)

For four hours, volunteers organized, sorted, and organized clothes and swapped items for those in need.

Why Sustainable Fashion is Important:

As social media promotes fast fashion, we are starting to see rapid cycles in clothing seasons. By buying from sustainable sources, we are mitigating the negative effects of fast fashion which include: unfair labor laws, overwhelming landfill, global warming, and more.

6

9 Million Reasons

For the duration of two shifts, Key Club members organized containers of food for the food pantry.

We sorted a wide assortment of foods; everything from string beans to apples!

Every member worked in teams; most having a system to work with. This event was packed with teamwork and fun.

7

Suzume Fundraiser

Francis Lewis High School

Key Club came together with clubs from other schools to raise money by watching the movie Suzume, a beautifully crafted and animated movie.

8

Kissena Corridor Park Clean Up

4/22/23

Francis Lewis High School

Key Club met up and cleaned up different parts of Kissena Corridor Park over the weekend with two different organizations. On the 22nd, we celebrated It’s My Park Day, and on the 23rd, we worked with Project Environment.

9

Kissena Corridor Park Clean Up 4/23/23

Why is Earth Day so important?

Our Earth is our home, and without it, humans would cease to exist. However, humans have been mistreating it and its inhabitants to an extreme level. We should mitigate problems before they become permanent.

What did we do?

We pulled out invasive weeds, used grabbers to take out trash, and more! These events allowed Kissena Corridor Park to flourish greater with greenery! Both events were a ton of fun and successful.

Member of the Month

Key Club members are vital to the fundamentals of Key Club. However, every month, there is a special person that stands out.

“Hi, my name is Esther Huang, and I am a sophomore at Francis Lewis High School! Being a member of Key Club has been so fun and has given me many opportunities to go out and get involved in my community. I always enjoy seeing my friends and fellow Key Club members in meetups and doing community service together. Key Club has given me a new perspective of community service and made me more excited and interested in serving my community. I am looking forward to future Key Club events and activities and am honored to be April’s member of the month!”

Editor’s Note

Hello, everyone! Key Clubbers, I am feeling so good because we are getting close to the end of the school year. On the topic of this newsletter, I wanted to try something new; shapes! I like how it looks on the Suzume page! Adobe Programs, I control you, you do not control me! All in all, this month was so fun as the new board starts settling in. Next month, expect the newslettter to look a little more different as I explore this realm of Adobe even more.

Anyway, thanks for reading! Bye
