MANLY PROFILE Julieann Star - Proprietor Ebb & Flow Boutique Nautical, Coastal and Island lifestyle is how Julieann describes the vibe of Ebb & Flow Boutique Studio. It is a befitting description reflecting its Manly Harbour Village setting on the upper reaches of Cambridge Parade. Homewares, gifts and - what she calls as ‘Slow Fashion’ - are on offer in this eclectic and intimate boutique. 2023 saw Ebb+Flow Boutique mark a decade in the Manly Harbour Village community. Julieann has used her creative passion in a boutique recognized for its handpicked coastal fashion, lifestyle items, and unique giftware, becoming a local and visitor favorite.

Her creativity and love of photography grew on meeting her husband Julien whilst working in the international cruise industry. They sailed many oceans before settling in Wynnum and bringing up a family. As avid sailors they decided the bayside was an ideal base loving its community and nature ambience. “Wynnum Manly is a wonderful place to live with the unique village ambience of the Bay” she says. “It’s why it will always be popular for visitors across Brisbane to escape the city.”

Laura Norris - Co-Owner & Manager of The Mad Hatters Bookshop A lifelong love of books brought Laura to her dream Laura grew up in a family that valued a good job of owning and managing her very own magical education and she devoured books from an early and enchanted world. Adults are drawn to the bookshop with its wide range of books and gifts, personalised recommendations, and magical Harry Potter room. WYNNUM WADING POOL RESERVE

Wynnum Wading pool was a Great Depression era project opening in 1933 and was created as a safe swimming enclosure and accommodates the many day trippers arriving on train from Brisbane.

The pool is part of an area of the Foreshore Parklands that was reclaimed from the sea. A retaining wall was built separating the main pool from the Moreton Bay waters and creating a tidal pool. The pool is around 200 m by 65 m and has automatic valves to maintain the water depth from the tide. The Wynnum Wading Pool Reserve was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in October 1998.

A major upgrade was completed in 2008. It remains a popular spot for all used by swimmers, families and model boat enthusiasts.

WYNNUM PROFILE Richard & Sarah - Owners & Operators Hudson Brewing Tucked away in an unassuming industrial precinct Hudson Brewing is an oasis for the beer aficionado and all who love traditional hospitality. It has become a Wynnum icon with a relaxed vibe at the Gibbs Street brewery/outlet with fresh beer and its variety of food trucks. Founded in 2020 at the start of the COVID outbreak - Hudson Brewery is very much a local business in the heart of Wynnum with owner managers Richard and Sarah brewing high quality beer to a faithful crowd both local and further afield.

and a brewery.

Richard and Sarah are rightly proud of their beers being recognised at the prestigious 2021 Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show (The Ekka), picking up numerous gold, silver and bronze awards in various beer competitions entered, including 6 gold and 4 bronze in 2023 The Independent Beer Awards.

Richard came into brewing after more than 20 years of home brewing and a love for beer – its production, taste and social aspects. Along with a background in engineering he had a natural aptitude for brewing, cementing this further with a two year University course in brewing.

Both Richard and Sarah settled in Wynnum in 2010 and with the growing craft beer scene decided it a good area for future growth

Danielle Davis - Owner - Sobidah Clothing Co Danielle has been in the retail clothing business since 2006. Preferring a more communitybased outlet and lifestyle than a big shopping centre, Wynnum is where she chose for her boutique in 2016.

Danielle describes the offering from Sobidah as “Clothing for the woman from size 8-18 who wants to feel comfortable and look great”. Her clothing range focuses on natural fibres and colourful resort style as befits the Queensland and relaxed lifestyle. Sobidah Clothing has become a staple of the Wynnum Uplate shopping evenings with its highly anticipated Fashion Show and catwalk complete with red carpet adorning the Edith st footpath. “It is a great opportunity to showcase the local wares….and that local shopping can be easy and fun’.

Andria Copp - Owner, Le Busté A broken wire on a camping trip with nowhere to go is what started the Le Buste journey. Andria is the founder and Chief Bra Fitter and had struggled to find not only her size but a friendly, knowledgeable service that listened to her needs and struggles. She knew that if she felt this way there would be others feeling the same too. Andria started her business from home in 2016 specialising in fuller bust lingerie and personalized bra fittings. She wanted to create a fun, positive experience in a comfortable, relaxing environment that is simply something you look forward to doing. She says that a professional bra fitting can be hard to find and is also a definite must for every bra purchase as, like clothes, size will vary between brand and style, even more so in lingerie.

Le Buste is now celebrating 2½ years on Edith Street! Andria loves the quirky vibe of Wynnum and it’s uniqueness and says that having a destination store has been fabulous! Her out-of-town clients love what they find here and make a day it! “Our clients come seeking the perfect fit for them.” Andria explains it really is all about listening to the needs and providing the right solutions. All her staff are trained by her and know that just ok is just not good enough. She firmly believes that there is a perfect fit for absolutely everyone. Le Buste’s size range is from 6-26, D-K cups (with limited B-C cups) in lingerie and swimwear including sports, maternity and mastectomy. As well as an exceptional bra fitting experience you’ll find the overall experience memorable and feel just like a visit to an old friend. Pop in to see Andria and her staff, they will welcome you and help you into some gorgeous lingerie and swimwear.

Why the name Sobidah? “I made it up”, she says adding, “When I Goggled it I found it means gentle, feminine calm in an Indian dialect. My hair stood on end when I heard this”.

EXPLORING MORETON BAY East Coast Marina is the perfect base for exploring Moreton Bay. Only 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD and 20 minutes from Brisbane Airport, you have more time for exploring the 2,000 square kilometres of crystal clear waters.

Just a few nautical miles from the entrance to Manly Harbour is Green Island, a favourite landmark to circumnavigate before heading back to the marina for sundowners. If you’re looking for an overnight anchorage you can cruise down to Horseshoe Bay

on Peel Island which is about 13 NM away and a safe spot in most conditions. At the Southern end of Moreton Island, you can explore the Sand Hills or drop anchor at Kooringal, each about 14 NM from East Coast Marina. Tangalooma is further North on Moreton Island and approximately 26 NM from East Coast Marina, but it feels like a different world. You can snorkel the Tangalooma Wrecks, explore the white sandy beach or take in a spectacular sunset over Brisbane City. Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island is easily accessible and there is a bus from there to Point Lookout on the ocean side of the island. The Southern end of Moreton Bay has hundreds of islands to explore with plenty of secluded anchorages or fishing spots. Some of the larger islands are settled, but most are uninhabited. This is just a taste of what Moreton Bay has to offer. If you need more information about what to see and do call the marina office on (07) 3393 3811 or the Wynnum Manly Visitor Information Centre on (07) 3348 3524.
