About Hair Texture

Hair is made up of keratin (a protein). The hair’s texture, color, shape, growth cycles and patterns are hereditary and will differ from person to person. As for the structure of the hair itself, that‘s the same for everyone. It’s just like how we all look different on the outside, but all have the same parts on the inside.

The cuticle layer

The outermost layer of the hair shaft is made up of the cuticle layer, which consists of a layer of flat, interlocked keratin cells. The cuticle layer is made up of 4 to 8 overlapping cuticles. With grey hair, this layer is doubled in thickness.

The separate cells are connected by something called 18-MEA, which acts like a sort of natural cement. This adhesive element protects the hair against external factors, but can be compromised by chemical and/or mechanical treatments. In healthy hair, the cuticles are closed, giving the hair its healthy shine, as a closed cuticle reflects more light, in turn giving the hair a glossier appearance. The Cell Membrane Complex is found between individual cuticle cells, as well as between cuticle and cortex cells. It consists of cell membranes and an adhesive material that binds the cuticle and cortical cells together in the hair fibers. The Cell Membrane Complex is made up of ceramides and other lipid molecules.

The Medulla

Generally only found in thicker hair types, the medulla is the core of the hair structure. If present, it consists of loosely connected cells, making it the most inconsistent part of the hair. If the medulla is compromised, the shine and color character of the hair will be affected.

The Cortex

The middle layer, the cortex, represents the main bulk of the hair structure (~75%), making it the most important part of the hair. It‘s made up of keratin and the hair’s natural pigment, melanin. The condition of the cortex depends on the hair’s strength, elasticity and integrity. The cortex consists of keratin fibers that are closely bound together.

The Avocado

We like to use the avocado as a metaphor: The skin is the hair shaft, the flesh is the cortex, and the pit is the medulla.

Natural Hair Color

The hair’s natural pigment, melanin, is produced in the melanocytes, which are the matrix cells found near the hair root. Natural pigmentation is defined by genetics. White hair does not contain any natural pigments.

There are two types of natural pigments (melanin):

Eumelanin

• Violet/Brown pigments

• Large molecule = easy to lighten

Pheomelanin

• Red/Orange pigments

• Small molecule = difficult to lighten

The quantity and combination of the hair’s natural pigments define the natural hair color. Grey hair appears when the melanocytes stop producing melanin. Eventually, this will lead to the hair becoming colorless (white).

All about the colors

White light is composed of different light frequencies, and each frequency products a different sensation of color. When dispersed, the various light colors become visible.

With all its gorgeous colors, the rainbow is a perfect example of light dispersion. When a beam of white light passes through a refracting material (a prism), different colors appear, as each color is refracted differently. The white light is then separated into its different component colors.

This means that color is a reflection of different light frequencies. Red hair only reflects red-light frequencies while the other colors are absorbed. Of the colors absorbed, you get the opposite of light - dark.

01/1

The texture, color, shape, growth and density of the hair are hereditary and therefore differ from person to person.

Composition of Color

Sir Isaac Newton is known best for his studies of gravity and calculus, but Newton’s Color Wheel is one of the major reasons why we now understand the ins and outs of how color works.

Newton’s experiments with white light led him to the discovery of the visible spectrum. He observed the way light would separate and appear to bend as it passed through a prism. The fact pretty much every child knows the colors of the rainbow - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet - is thanks to Newton‘s discovery.

In the original color wheel that he created in 1704, Sir Isaac Newton included musical correlations and notes, but the experiments also led to the theory that red, yellow and blue were the primary colors from which all other colors were derived. While that was not entirely accurate, this theory was extremely influential in the development of later color wheels, including the ones used today.

When it came to the development of color systems like Pantone, Munsell and RAL, the value of Newton‘s Color Wheel cannot be emphasized enough. It gave (and still gives) designers the color tools needed to create attractive color palettes and designs through the application of the underlying science of color.

The The

Primary Colors Secondary Colors

All colors consist of the 3 primary colors:

Natural hair colors are composed of three primary colors. Combining these 3 primary colors, 3 new secondary colors are created.

= Orange

Red Yellow Blue
Red + Yellow
Blue + Red = Violet Yellow + Blue = Green

The The

Complementary Colors Color Wheel

The colors that sit directly opposite each other on the color wheel are called complementary colors. They’re used to neutralize or counteract their opposite colors.

Complementary pairs always consist of:

A primary & secondary color

A warm & cool color

The complementary pairs are:

Yellow & Violet

Orange & Blue

Red & Green

The color wheel and the theory behind it form the basis for coloring all hair-coloring services, especially when it comes to deciding on the desired color character.

The colors and color characters are: Red Yellow = Gold Blue = Ash Blue Orange = Copper Violet Green

Artificial Pigments

Pigments can be divided into two types: oxidative and non-oxidative pigments. (Oxidation is caused by oxygen interacting with the pigments.)

Non-oxidative dyes

Non-oxidative (direct) pigments

These are larger, colored pigments. They attach themselves to the scales of the cuticle layer. They’re also easier to rinse out than oxidative pigments.

Characteristics:

• Larger pigment than oxidative pigments

• Attach to the outer layer of the hair

• Limited durability

Only non-oxidative pigments are used in temporary and semi-permanent coloring products, like Color Chameleon.

Non-oxidative dyes Oxidative dyes

Combination

In permanent and demi-permanent coloring products, like Tinta Color, So Pure Color and Semi Color, the two types of pigments are sometimes mixed, depending on the desired color result.

Undeveloped oxidative dyes

Developed oxidative dyes

Oxidative pigments

These pigments are small, undeveloped and colorless pigments that can easily penetrate the cortex. They develop into large, colored molecules that are locked inside the hair by the oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide. They are secured in the cortex and the result is a permanent color.

Characteristics:

• Small pigment before oxidation and large pigment after oxidation

• Penetrate deep into the cortex

• Long-lasting color results

Oxidative pigments are used in permanent and demi-permanent coloring products, like Tinta Color, So Pure Color and Semi Color.

The Coloring Process

Permanent and demi-permanent hair coloring systems feature 3 basic components: Alkalizer, Hydrogen peroxide, Dye precursor

Untreated hair

What does an alkalizer do?

Typically ammonia or MEA, the alkalizer plays a dual role in aiding the lightening of the melanin and the formation of dyes; it buffers the reaction at a basic pH level and allows dye precursors to penetrate into the hair.

What does hydrogen peroxide do?

It‘s an oxidizing agent that bleaches melanin (and some previously deposited dyes), thereby lightening the underlying color and oxidizing the dye precursors to form the final color molecule.

What do dye precursors do?

Dye precursors are oxidized by hydrogen peroxide to form the color inside the hair.

Colored & treated hair

STEP 1

Opening the hair cuticle

Alkalizer: Ammonia or MEA (ethanolamine) An alkalizer creates an alkaline pH level, causing the hair to swell and the cuticle to “open”, so the dye precursors can penetrate the hair.

STEP 2

Lightening the melanin

The aim of this step is to prepare a solid base for color, helping the new color to present itself more prominently, while hydrogen peroxide bleaches the hair, making it lighter. The hydrogen peroxide reacts with the colored melanin molecules in the hair and turns them into colorless molecules. The extent to which you can bleach or lighten melanin (natural hair color) depends on the hydrogen peroxide concentration and type, and the concentration of the alkalizer used. With a low-level hydrogen peroxide

shade, you will be able to go 1-2 levels lighter. A higher-level hydrogen peroxide shade will allow you to go 3-4 levels lighter. If you need to go lighter than this, we recommend a pre-bleaching step. Simply applying hydrogen peroxide onto hair will not lighten or bleach it, as the cuticles are closed. Therefore, using an alkalizer is a must! Please keep in mind that the same concentration of MEA will not achieve the same level of lightness as the same concentration of ammonia.

Normal hairshaft - closed cuticle
Lightened hairshaft
Porous hairshaft - open cuticle

STEP 3

Adding dye precursors

These small, undeveloped oxidative pigment molecules later react to form the final dye, soaking into the cortex through the gaps in the open cuticles.

STEP 4

Precursor reactions to form the dye

With the help of hydrogen peroxide, the precursor molecules react with each other to form the final, large dye molecules, which are too big to wash out easily. Now, the color is “trapped” inside the hair. The final color is a balance of the right amount of lightening and the right amount of the type and concentration of dye precursors.

STEP 5

Closing the cuticle

After dyeing, the cuticle is closed, usually with an acidic conditioner.

Shaft with dye precursors Shaft with enlarged dye precursors Dyed hair shaft - closed cuticle

Facts about pH

As you now know, pH plays a huge role in the coloring process. That’s why it’s very important to understand exactly how pH works and how it affects our hair and products.

pH is a scale used to measure the concentration of H+ (hydrogen) in the solution. Solutions with more hydrogen molecules are acidic, whereas those with less are alkaline.

The pH Level

Anything that contains water has a pH level. A healthy pH balance is of really important, not only in the products that we ingest, but also in the products we use and put on our hair or skin.

In general:

Care products are formulated at pH 3.0 – 5.0

Scalp products are formulated at pH 4.5 – 6.0

Styling products are formulated at pH 6.5 – 8.5

Chemical treatments are formulated at pH 9.5 – 13.0

For oxidative hair coloring, you will always have alkaline pH.

This is why, after an oxidative hair coloring treatment, a low-pH (acidic) care product should be used, mainly to restore the hair‘s pH balance to a healthy level.

Hydrogen Peroxide Keune Color System

Using a Developer is an essential step in applying a permanent color. The main active ingredient in Developer is hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is formed when water (H2O) picks up an extra oxygen atom (H2O + O = H2O2). The bond isn‘t particularly stable, and the oxygen will easily split off in an alkaline environment. The split-off oxygen atoms develop the color pigments.

KEUNE COLOR SYSTEM

Keune Cream Developer is available in varying strengths.

The higher the percentage (%) of hydrogen peroxide, the higher the amount of oxygen that will be released. When oxygen is released, some of the natural pigments are fractured.

The higher the percentage (%), the greater the amount of fractured natural melanin, which results in the hair getting lighter.

The hydrogen peroxide concentration determines the level of lightening. The higher the percentage (%), the lighter the hair will be.

KEUNE COLOR SYSTEM

Color Level (First number before

the decimal)

The first number indicates the color level. This level indicates where a natural or synthetic color sits in the hair color level system. The level system is numbered 1 through 10. Level 10 is the lightest color and Level 1 is the darkest.

Level 1 - Black

Level 3 - Dark Brown

Level 4 - Medium brown

Level 5 - Light Brown

Level 6 - Dark Blonde

Level 7 - Medium Blonde

Level 8 - Light Blonde

Level 9 - Very Light Blonde

Level 10 - Lightest Blonde

Primary Color Character (First

number after the decimal)

The second number indicates the primary color character, the most dominant reflect. Keune Tinta Color has the following color characters:

COLOR SYSTEM

Example

10.7 Lightest Violet Blonde

8.1 Light Ash Blonde

6.5 Dark Mahogany Blonde

Secondary Color Character

(Second number after the decimal)

Some colors have a third number, which indicates the minor color.

Example: 7.35

7 Medium Blonde (color level)

3 Golden (primary color character)

5 Mahogany (secondary color character)

7.35 = Medium Golden Mahogany Blonde

Some colors have two of the same number, which shows that the reflection has a higher intensity.

Example: 7.44 Medium Intense Copper Blonde

Color Make Up

When the colors are put together, the proportions are as follows:

7 6.1 6.28 7.66

A natural color is composed only by natural pigments

A fashion shade with 1 character consists of 50% natural pigment and 50% character

A fashion shade with 2 character consists of 50% natural pigment, 30% first character, and 20% second character

An intense fashion shade consists of 25% natural pigment and 75% character

What are allergies?

Allergies are unusual reactions to substances in our environment. An allergic reaction is a reaction of our immune system against harmless foreign substances, which are called allergens.

What is an allergen?

“Virtually any substance can become an allergen.“

The two main unwanted reactions that can occur are:

1. Irritation Reactions (Hypersensitivity)

These are the most common unwanted reactions and should not be confused with an allergic reaction. The immune system is not involved in an irritation/hypersensitivity reaction. These reactions may cause skin redness, stinging or itching. They‘re limited to the place of contact. They disappear pretty quickly after discontinuing use of the product.

2. Allergic Reactions

Extraordinary/abnormal body responses to normally harmless substances in our environment. Unlike irritation/ hypersensitivity, the immune system is involved in an allergic reaction. Possible symptoms include rashes, dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath, or swelling. Seek immediate medical attention. In rare cases, the ingredients of a hair colorant can become an allergen and cause an allergic reaction.

What happens in the body during an allergic reaction?

T-Cells

T-cells are like our security team, checking that enters our body for possible danger, such as bacteria and viruses.

Allergens

When T-cell receptors detect a potentially dangerous substance, they activate the body‘s immune system and trigger an immune response to neutralize the threat. Covid-19 gave us a pretty good example of this. That said, sometimes T-cells get it wrong and mistake harmless substances for dangerous ones, triggering an unnecessary immune response. This is what happens when an allergy develops in people who were not previously allergic, such reacting to things like nuts or other food or cosmetic allergies.

Allergic Reaction

Allergies are unusual reactions to substances in our environment. An allergic reaction is a reaction of our immune system against harmless foreign substances, which are called allergens. Allergens are very common in our natural environment: they’re in our food, our clothing can be found in everyday utensils. The human body can react to substances that are inhaled, swallowed, injected or which have come into contact with the skin. Most people never become allergic to a particular substance and can use products containing allergens without any issues. In rare cases, the ingredients of a hair colorant can become an allergen and cause an allergic reaction.

Sensitivity Test

Hair coloring can cause serious allergic reactions, which is why it‘s so important that you always read the instructions before starting the treatment and follow them carefully.

Warning:

• Keune Color products are not intended for use on persons under 16 years of age.

• Temporary “black henna” tattoos can increase the risk of an allergic reaction.

• Wear suitable gloves.

• Do not use hair coloring products to color eyelashes or eyebrows.

• Avoid any contact with the eyes; if this happen accidentally, rinse immediately with plenty of water.

• Ensure that color is removed by using After Color Shampoo & Balsam to ensure the color oxidation process has ceased and all color residue is removed.

• Do not use coloring products if the hair has been colored with henna or metal dyes.

• Remove all metal objects from the hair (such as hair clips) and do not use metal objects yourself.

• Use mixed products immediately.

• Do not use surplus/leftover mixtures; throw away immediately after use.

• Never store mixtures in a closed container. This can cause the container to expand or even crack.

• Keep coloring products out of the reach of children.

Recommendation

The Metallics are not suitable or recommended for use with the 2000 or 3000 ranges.

Adding Metallics to Fashion shades will dilute their level, while adding to the reflection result .

Add Mix Color to your Tinta Color Metallic formula for added customization (use the basic mix color rules).

* Choose your developer based on the levels of lift you want to create. ** You can find more info on Base Breaking on page 76.

Mixing Ratio

Mix Colors are added to the chosen recipe, based on the diagram opposite.

This provides a guideline for determining the minimum amount to add to your formula. The more you add, the more effect it has on the reflection result.

The maximum amount of Mix Color recommended to add to color formulas is half of the mixture, in order to ensure that the color level will still be visible in the end result.

Example: 30g 6.4 + 1g 0/34 + 30g 6% (20 vol.)

0/22 2:3 Violet (0/77) and 1:3 Red (0/66) 0/88 3:4 Mahogany (0/55) and 1:4 Gold (0/33)

For optimum results and formula consistency, mix the desired colors and added Mix Color before adding the developer.

When combining Natural or Ultimate Cover with your fashion shades to achieve grey coverage, some intensity of the reflection may be lost. Use Mix Color to support and enhance your reflection for optimum intensity.

Example 1 No. 1 - color character

The intensity of the golden reflection of 8.3 will be reduced when Natural is added to achieve coverage. Add 0/33 to support the reflection and achieve your desired result.

30g 8 + 30g 8.3 + 1g 0/33 + 60g 6% (20 vol.)

Example 2 No. 2 - color characters

The intensity of both reflections in a 5.35 will be reduced when Natural is added to achieve coverage. Add 0/33 and 0/55 to support the reflections and achieve your desired result. Add more Mix Color of your Major reflection, and less Mix Color of your minor reflection.

30g 5 + 30g 5.35 + 2g 0/33 + 1g 0/55 + 60g 6% (20 vol.)

After Color Program

After the development of pigmentation and rinsing, it is necessary to stop the oxidation process and give the hair the proper after-color treatment.

There are two steps in the after color treatment:

In-Salon

After Color Shampoo and Balsam

Home Maintenance

Care range suitable for daily use

Recommended for

After Color Shampoo (pH4)

This sulfate-free, professional use only formula stops the oxidation process, removes the residual pigment from the hair and scalp and closes the cuticle after a color treatment. After Color Shampoo contains a UV protector which provides protection to the hair structure and hair color. It also contains LP300 which is a color stabilizer.

After Color Balsam (pH4)

This conditioner stops the oxidation process, brings hair back to it‘s natural acid balance, and leaves the hair soft, shiny, and more manageable. After Color Balsam contains a UV protector which provides protection to the hair structure and hair color. It also contains LP300 which is a color stabilizer.

Instructions

Rinse hair color thoroughly. Cleanse with Keune After Color Shampoo (pH4) then rinse well. Condition with After Color Balsam (pH4) and leave for 1-3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

The Dual

Coloring Treatment

When regrowth has come through and the ends are in need of a refresh, we recommend The Dual Coloring Treatment. This color technique delivers strong and long-lasting results while also being gentle on the hair. Use Tinta Color to touch up roots or to lighten natural hair at the roots. Use Semi Color for mid-lengths and ends to keep the hair in optimal condition when refreshing a light color or mid-lengths, or ends that have faded two levels.

Developers

Formula A (roots): Keune Cream Developer 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%

Formula B (mid-lengths and ends): Semi Color Activator

Dual Color Technique

Recommendation

Add Semi Color Clear to the formula for ends, as applying Semi Color onto dry hair can result in a darker color result.

KEUNE TINTA COLOR

Toning

When toning the hair, you should always use the mildest formula possible. The Toning Treatment with Semi Color Ultimate Blonde Toners is the mildest option we offer.

That said, if you need a more intensive service or if the chosen color isn‘t available within the Semi Color range, then Tinta Color is perfectly suitable as a colorrefreshing product. With the largest range of shade options, and mixed with 3% (10 vol) Developer, the formula is mild on hair but still adds stunning color and shine. Plus, the formula can be adjusted to what the client wants.

Recommended for

• Changing the character of lightened hair

• Gentle color changes

• Stubborn hair

Recommendation

You‘ll achieve the most intense results by applying onto dry hair.

If just a touch of color is needed, damp hair can also be an option.

Base Breaking

Base breaking is a treatment that helps lighten the hair in between highlight or balayage treatments, or can even be used on the same day. It blends the natural hair with previously lightened areas, while also softening the regrowth for long-lasting results.

When you’re looking for an express base-breaking treatment, our Tinta Color Shade Shifters work wonders with depositing tones in just 15 minutes. You’ll be able to lighten the hair by up to 1 level, while at the same time neutralizing unwanted warmth or coolness (when using Metallic Warm or Cool) on both pre-lightened areas and the natural hair. This will help soften the light and dark areas of the hair for a more natural look that still looks and feels bright and glossy. Of course, as with all our products, the base-breaking treatment is super gentle on the hair.

Recommended for

Choose from 3 different shades:

• Clear, for a base break without adding any reflects

• Metallic Cool, for a soft, cool reflect on both natural and pre-lightened hair

• Metallic Warm, for a warmer to peach reflect on natural and pre-lightened hair

Expert Tip

Grey Coverage

Grey Hair

Grey coverage and equalization both play an important role in color treatments. Hair that’s partly grey is a mixture of pigmented (colored) and non-pigmented (white) hair.

Grey coverage

The possibility of evenly coloring non-pigmented (white) hair.

Equalization

The possibility of creating the same color on pigmented (colored) hair and non-pigmented (white) hair.

Grey Coverage Technique

Characteristics of grey hair:

• Grey / white hair lacks natural pigments

• Due to the thicker cuticle layer, less pigments penetrate the cortex. This makes grey hair harder to cover.

When using Tinta Color, the natural pigments are lightened when mixed it with Keune Cream Developer. The color pigments penetrate both the white and the lightened, pigmented hair. This creates an even and smooth color all over. That’s why it’s important to carefully choose the right percentage of Keune Cream Developer.

Grey hair
Pigmented hair

Grey Coverage

Tips for up to 100% grey:

• Use a color product with sufficient grey coverage

• The amount of Natural you add matters, so make sure to use the correct color formula

• Developer strength and mixing ratio are equally important, calculate them correctly

• Use a generous amount of color product

• Apply the formula correctly, as per the instructions

• The standard processing time is 30 minutes, but for coarse and/or resistant hair this time can be extended to 40 minutes.

• Do not use heat treatments to shorten the processing time – this will not help the durability of the color.

Tinta Color Natural Shades and Ultimate Cover Natural Shades will help you achieve up to 100% grey coverage without any additives.

Due to its composition, Tinta Color Fashion Shades can’t cover 100% grey hair. To achieve 100% grey coverage with your Fashion Shades, it needs to be mixed with natural color. For high percentage (%) white/grey hair, or coarse, resistant hair, mix your Fashion Shade with Ultimate Cover Natural to achieve 100% grey coverage.

Follow the guidelines below to achieve grey coverage with Fashion Shades.

If these applications are not sufficient, then we advise using the shifting technique or pre-pigmentation. Please refer to the following treatments for the correct application.

60g Keune Cream Developer 6% (20 vol.)
60g Keune Cream Developer 6% (20 vol.)
10.3.5)
60g Keune Cream Developer 6% (20 vol.)
(+ add Mix Color, see chapter 10.3.5)

Extreme Grey Coverage

Shifting Technique

Recommendation

This specialty formula is only suitable for use with 9% Developer. Other developer strengths (6% or 12%) are not recommended and will not achieve the desired coverage result.

Recommended for

For optimal grey coverage of stubborn grey hair that doesn’t respond to the Ultimate Cover Series, you can use the shifting technique.

With this technique, you‘ll use less Keune Cream Developer and use a higher percentage instead. This increases the alkalinity of the formula and the amount of pigment. The higher level of alkalinity makes it easier for the hair cuticles to open up, and in turn facilitates better penetration of the color pigments into the hair.

The Developer is reduced by 1/3 of the amount. This means that there is 1.5x the amount of color to developer.

Use this formula with half Natural/Ultimate Cover Natural + half Fashion OR with Ultimate Cover Fashion shades for optimal results.

Developers

Example 3: 30g 8.00 UC + 30g 8.81 + 40gr 9% (30 vol.)

Instructions

Step 1: Use a bowl and brush to thoroughly mix Tinta Color with Keune Cream Developer.

Step 2: Apply the mixture onto dry hair.

Processing Time

After Care

Rinse thoroughly. Cleanse with Keune After Color Shampoo then rinse well. Condition with After Color Balsam (pH4) and leave for 1-3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Grey Coverage

Pre-Pigmentation

Sometimes it can be hard to achieve an even result on stubborn, resistant grey hair, particularly when it only occurs in certain parts of the hair, like at the temples or the crown.

Recommended for

• Hair that’s completely white in places. • Hair that’s hard to color in places.

Developers

First, the color is applied, unmixed (no developer).

For the second step, to ensure good coverage, a new mixture using a 6% Keune Cream Developer or an extremely resistant formula using 9% Keune Cream Developer is created.

Mixing Ratio

Recipe 1: Choose a Natural shade that’s 1 or 2 color levels lighter than the desired end color, unmixed.

Recipe 2: 60g Tinta Color + 60g 6% Keune Cream Developer OR 40g 9% Keune Cream Developer

Instructions

Step 1: Choose a Natural Shade that’s 1 or 2 color levels lighter than the desired end color

Step 2: Apply the Natural Shade (no Developer) onto the relevant parts of the hair. Do not rinse.

Step 3: Apply the desired Tinta Color onto the whole head.

Processing Time

30-40 minutes

After Care

Rinse thoroughly. Cleanse with Keune After Color Shampoo then rinse well. Condition with After Color Balsam (pH4) and leave for 1-3 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Recommendation

Only apply the color onto tough spots. Do not apply the pre-pigmentation onto the whole head.

Never use a Tinta Ultimate Cover color for pre-pigmentation.

From Light to Dark

Decolorized and strongly faded hair lacks warm pigments. When coloring this hair a darker shade, you will get an unwanted matte color effect on the lengths and the ends. To prevent this, the hair should be pre-pigmented (or filled) with warm pigments.

If you’re coloring the hair more than 2 color levels darker, you‘ll have to pre-pigment first, otherwise:

•The color will be matte;

•The result will be too light;

•The result will be uneven;

•The color will fade fast;

•You‘ll risk a grey or green tinge

Note: If your client is dealing with porous, dry, or damaged hair, we recommend treating the hair prior to coloring for a more predictable end result.

From Light To Dark Technique

From Light to Dark

Pre-Pigmentation

Recommendation

• Wear gloves during the treatment

• Measure and dilute following the instructions provided

• Use a suitable amount to saturate the hair, avoiding excess and over-saturation

• Always apply on dry hair

• Apply pre-pigmentation at the basin

• Only use Tinta Color mixed with 3% (10 vol.) Keune Cream Developer after Pre-Pigmentation is applied

Recommended for

• When the hair color faded more than 2 color levels compared to the desired hair color.

• When the client wants a color that’s more than 2 color levels darker than the current color.

• When the hair continues to fade quickly even after refreshing.

• The hair lacks the warm pigments needed to support the desired result.
