Piece #1 Hidden Hope

“A Muslim Teen in the West”.

The theme of my piece "Hidden Hope" is how it truly feels for a Muslim teen to live in the west. The young girl in the painting holds tight to green threads that are attached to the big balloon. Each thread represents the many sources of support that GOD sends her, and the colour green represents growth and prosperity. While the hot air balloon is uplifting her up away from all her fears.

The balloon is painted in red, orange, and yellow to represent courage, warmth, and love. Mountains in grey underneath the girl represent fear, loneliness, and a tough rough life.

This piece enables me to express my feelings as an artist and grow hope inside me when facing life challenges.

My piece "Unravelling the Woven" explores the theme of what it's like to be a Muslim teen in the West.

The model shows the silhouette of a strong woman figure who pulls herself away from temptations and society norms that try to unravel her woven morphology depleting her from her own identity, beliefs, and values.

The concept behind this artwork signifies the pressure I feel as a Muslim woman who struggles to maintain her modesty within stereotypical western beauty standards.

This model was my first wire-working experience, and I'm grateful I got to explore it since it taught me patience and trusting in the process, and most importantly, it allowed me to communicate my thoughts in a 3D form which elaborates the dimensions of my struggles.
