My piece "Corbeau et le premier homme" is inspired by the theory of "The Raven and the First Men," which illustrates the creation myth of the Haida people. Along with being influenced by the art style of famous Canadian artist "Norval Morrisseau," who is widely considered as the grandfather of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada. After reading the story, I chose to portray it in my own approach utilizing Norval Morrisseau's "pictographic style," sometimes known as "x-ray art" because of the way it emphasizes the outlines of people, creatures, and objects. I was able to demonstrate this utilizing the stamping technique, where I used a rubber square sheet to carve out all the negative spaces, which were afterwards coloured in with Crayola pencil colours employing the same colour palette Norval Morrisseau did.
