With this production, I can officially, slightly ironically, say I am a playwright. The Seussification of A Midsummer Night's Dream does its job, almost too well it seems, in condensing and even further humorizing Shakespeare’s famous play, to the point where we needed to add to our run time. This gave the Kalamazoo Civic a chance to show off some of our amazing design team and the beautiful work they did on this production. My hope is always that they can have fun and feel creatively fulfilled while bringing more life to the show, and with this one they certainly did not disappoint.
On top of it, I was able to work with a young, talented cast who not only took on the main script, but weeks into rehearsal, graciously breathed life into another. I sometimes have to pinch myself that life has brought me to where I get to work with these gifted performers and watch them grow and improve as they take on one of the most challenging forms of theatre: satirical comedy. I hope you enjoy the hijinks as well as the message that while love can take some crazy twists and turns, it ultimately keeps us on the right path.
I'd like to dedicate this show to the memory of Thomas Koehler, one of the best prop designers and people I've known.
Katherine Mumma, Director
This performance is approximately 45 minutes with no intermission. Video and/or audio recording and the taking of photographs is strictly prohibited.

Sierra Austin
Sierra is thrilled to be making her Civic Theatre debut as Helena! A passionate performer, she has previously appeared in productions with Kalamazoo Country Day School and is an active participant with Center Stage Theatre Company. Over the summer, she was part of Oliver! and recently played Michael Hobbs in Elf Junior. Sierra loves bringing characters to life on stage and is always eager to grow as an actress. When she’s not performing, she enjoys singing, reading, horseback riding, and sailing. She is grateful for the support of her family, friends, and mentors and is excited to share this experience as Helena with the cast and audience.
Reuben Bahrou
Reuben is thrilled to be performing in “The Seussification of a Midsummer Night’s Dream”!, their third production at the Civic. Some of their favorite roles include Bloat in “Finding Nemo Jr.” for their Civic premiere, and Friar Tuck, Peasant, and Guard in the “Very UnMerry Adventures of Robin Hood” in the Kindleberger Summer Festival for the Performing Arts Youth Production. Reuben appreciates being involved in theater because portraying other people is fun. They also like to code, play Magic the Gathering, and ride their bike when not in rehearsal. Reuben
would like to thank their family for supporting them in all they do.
Heron Miriam Bothwell
Heron is delighted to make her Civic debut as Quince, after discovering her love of playing bossy characters as a domineering angel in a church pageant. She fulfills a role much like Quince at home, directing traffic and entertainment for her three younger siblings. Heron has played violin and piano around town for many years, and enjoys reading, writing, roller skating, baking, and running wild with friends in the neighborhood. She is a fan of the Beatles, Harry Potter, Tolkein, the Babysitters’ Club, and now, Seussified Shakespeare. And by adding theater to her repertoire, Heron is now a true triple threat – combining acting, musical performance and spycraft.
Abbie Halifax
Abbie is thrilled to be performing in her fourth show at the Civic. Some of her favorite shows include “Hadestown”, “The Music Man”, and “She Loves Me”. Abbie loves being involved in theatre because her gets to meet new people. When not in rehearsal, she likes to learn instruments, read, and go on walks. Abbie would like to thank her family for dealing with busy show schedules.
Zoe Hart
This is Zoe’s third time working at the Civic. They were previously Assistant Stage Manage of Six The Musical – Teen Edition and a dresser on The Hunchback of Notre Dame and absolutely loved watching the show come together. Zoe loves anything to do with theatre. Whether that’s onstage, backstage, or in the audience! Their parents have been very supportive of them, even if it’s a bit of a hassle driving back and forth. Zoe is very happy to be apart of this show and hopefully of many more to come!
Charlie Humphreys-Strand Charlie is excited to be performing in her first show at the Civic. Charlie enjoys being involved in theatre because she can escape reality. When not in rehearsal she likes to play guitar and write poetry. Charlie would like to thank her family for making accommodations to allow her to do the play.
Carter Ibison
Carter is appearing in his first production as the role of Lysander. He is 13 years old and attends Vicksburg Middle School. Carter was first introduced to acting through programs and acting classes at the Civic. He loves to be on stage whether it is acting or singing. Carter in his free time loves sports and traveling around the world with his family. He hopes to bring his energetic spirit
to the main stage and continue to pursue his dream of acting. He is the only child of his proud parents Russ and Misty Ibison.
Kennedi Peake
Kennedi Reign was born with a love for performing. She danced with Unique Unity Dance Team from ages 3–6 and discovered theater in a 2023 Civic Theatre summer camp. Beyond acting, she runs her lip gloss business, GlossGirls Cosmetics, participates in her school’s academically talented program, writes stories and songs, and creates her own fashion looks. Kennedi is grateful for her family’s love and support on her journey.
Brogan Poer
Brogan is a proud 4th grader from Kalamazoo who to perform in their second Civic production. They set foot on stage for the first time this past summer in What A Do Theatre’s “The Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark” as a triceratops named Larry. Brogan is a student at Wellspring Dance Academy, just took up the viola and kayaking, and plays golf. They would like to thank their mama, papa, and big sister, Etta for all of the love and support.

Viktor would like to thank his family for supporting him and spending all their time chauffeuring him to and from the theater.
Kaia Solano

Ivy Stewart
Ivy is really excited to be in the Wardrobe Crew for Seussification! Some of her favorite past experiences at the Civic include wardrobe/makeup crew for “Finding Nemo Jr.” and “The Lion King Jr.”, and performing in “All Of Us”. Ivy enjoys being involved in theater because she can imagine “all these different people and different worlds”. At home, Ivy likes to read, color, face paint, watch videos, and be outside. She would like to thank the Civic staff for the opportunity to be involved in great shows, and her family for their support.
Zoé Stewart
Zoé is ecstatic to be Seussification’s Stage Manager, as it is her first time taking on this role. Some of her favorite crew gigs include Wardrobe for “Puffs”, and Assistant Stage Manager for “The Lion King Jr.” Zoé enjoys being a Civic crew member because she hopes to one day pursue Stage Managing as a career. When she’s not hanging out backstage, Zoé loves to read, play Bass guitar, and listen to music. Zoé wants to thank the Civic staff for creating great shows to participate in, and her friends and family for supporting her interests.
Eilee Stob
Eilee is excited to be crewing in her third show at the Civic. Some of her favorite roles include Bubbles/Reef Kid in “Finding Nemo Jr.” and Rumpleteazer in “Cats: Young Actors Edition”.
