CONSTRUCTION BEGINS, SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN 2027 AND TRANSFORM THE ISLAND’S TOURIST LANDSCAPE
ROATAN,
BAIA ISLANDS, HONDURAS (MARCH 5, 2025) - Margaritaville and Karisma Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with Island Shipping, S. de R.L., officially began construction of the highly anticipated Margaritaville Island Reserve® Resort Roatan in Honduras. The all-inclusive resort is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027, marking a significant milestone in the development of the region. Dignitaries, local officials and key stakeholders gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of this transformative development.
The Ceremony
The event was a vibrant celebration, with music, food, drinks and entertainment setting the mood for the unveiling of this landmark project. Guests gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony, where a series of speeches highlighted the resort’s importance to Roatan.
Margaritaville CEO John Cohlan, along with Karisma Hotels & Resorts CEO Esteban Velasquez, spoke about the vision for the resort and its impact on the local community and tourism sector. Key government representatives also gave a keynote address and marked the start of the project with a toast.
“The symbolic groundbreaking of Margaritaville Island Reserve® Resort Roatan marks an exciting moment for both Karisma Hotels & Resorts and the island,” ”In addition to creating a world-class resort, this project will offer immersive experiences, boost Roatan’s global appeal and enhance the island’s infrastructure. With efforts such as planting native vegetation, we are fostering long-term prosperity for the community and the environment.”
Commitment to Sustainability and Community
The Margaritaville Island Reserve® Resort Roatan will create 400 permanent jobs at the resort and another 400 indirect jobs in the local economy, including roles in construction, hospitality and support industries.
The project will prioritize local talent, providing stable employment opportunities that allow island residents to contribute their skills.
Esteban Velásquez CEO Karisma Hotels & Resorts
As the Margaritaville Island Reserve® Resort Roatan improves tourism infrastructure and integrates sustainable practices, it will become a catalyst for growth, elevating the island as a premier Caribbean destination while preserving its heritage.
In addition, the Resort’s development is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental restoration, focusing primarily on combating coastal erosion and preserving the natural beauty of Turtling Bay.
Key efforts will include planting native vegetation, such as seagrasses, to create habitats for marine life, including sea turtles.
Productive landscaping that incorporates agroforestry principles will improve soil health, promote reforestation and establish an edible forest to support biodiversity by attracting native pollinators and wildlife.
Through workshops and training sessions, local residents will actively participate in conservation efforts, reinforcing the resort’s alignment with the principles of Regenerative Tourism and the UN 2050 Sustainability Goals to build a resilient coastal destination.
“For the Hynds and McNab families, it is an honor to be part of this important project, which represents a great development opportunity for Roatan,” shared Jerry Hynds, CEO of Island Shipping. “The arrival of the Margaritaville brand to our island not only creates jobs, but also boosts the economic and social development of the community. It will be a new source of employment and a boost for tourism.
This investment reflects the confidence that enterprising islanders have in Honduras and our firm belief in Roatan’s potential to continue to grow and prosper. We remain committed to the future of the island, with a dedication to creating more opportunities and improving the quality of life for all its residents.”
A Unique Resort
Margaritaville Island Reserve® Resort Roatan will be the third property in the Margaritaville all-inclusive collection managed by Karisma.
The luxurious family resort will span 8.8 acres along 200 yards of coastline and will feature 170 rooms, including oceanfront suites and honeymoon accommodations with direct pool access.
Guests will enjoy Margaritaville’s signature restaurants, including Frank & Lola’s Italian Trattoria, JWB Steakhouse, The Boathouse Market Dining and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

The LandShark Brewery Terrace will provide a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the scenic views and exclusive beers.
“Today marks a monumental moment for Margaritaville. As we begin construction on our first resort in Honduras, we are setting a course for a destination where guests can experience our relaxed lifestyle and the natural beauty of this incredible country.” ”This resort will offer a unique blend of local culture, sustainability and world-class hospitality. We are excited to bring the Margaritaville experience to Roatan and look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to this paradise,”
added Shamim Lodin, Executive Director of Development at Margaritaville
Margaritaville Island Reserve® Resort Roatan will combine coastal style with the island’s landscape and cultural heritage.
The design process is being led by Mario Mathieu, SVP of Business Development, Design and Construction at Karisma Hotels & Resorts, and Edward Ake, Project Director at Island Concrete, S.A. de C.V., in collaboration with Eric McBride of The McBride Company and a distinguished team of architects, including Carlos Aguilar of GVA Arquitectos. The resort’s elevated design will reflect the marine life and fishing traditions of Roatan.

Driving Equity at Ktalent
In Women’s Month, KTalent and Karisma Hotels & Resorts reaffirm their commitment to gender equity, visible in the properties and salesrooms we operate, highlighting our evolution in the consolidation of female leadership in all areas of our organization.
This month is not only a commemoration, but a reflection on the increasingly present role of women in the hospitality industry and an impetus to continue building a future where equal opportunities are a palpable reality.
In our hotels and salesrooms, we have been privileged witnesses to the growth of many women who have assumed leadership roles with a determination and vision that contributes to the achievement of company objectives.
We are proud to recognize that in operational areas where in the industry there are few women leading teams, such as General Manager, Financial Controller, Executive Chef, Maintenance, Entertainment, as well as in key areas such as SPA, Talent and Culture, Rooms, we have strong and visionary female leaders.
These women have not only broken barriers, but have demonstrated that gender diversity is a strength that enriches our organization and drives us towards success.
Through our KTalent platform, we have created an ecosystem where women have access to the same opportunities for professional growth and development in an environment of fairness and equity.
Our “Women Who Inspire” campaign is the result of this process.
We have spectacular testimonials that speak of resilience in the face of different challenges, such as facing motherhood and an operating position, which may require presence in different shifts.
Stories with excellent examples of tenacity and perseverance that tell us about the loss of home and property in charge of a family and how with a job they have provided education and tools to their children.
Successful women who tell us how they have made their way in the commercial and sales field to give excellent results.
We found a common denominator and it is that spirit that is contagious to fulfill dreams and achieve goals.
Through our internal development programs ranging from cross training to Executive Development, we use different tools that help us to perfect this transparency and fairness, with 360° assessments, psychometrics, executive coaching, business case studies, we expand the range of options to generate functional tools that support the culture of each brand, such as Nickelodeon, Margaritaville, Azul and leadership competencies, reducing the gap between a current position and the desired position.
We recognize the value of mentoring in career development.
Our leaders are committed to sharing their experience and knowledge, guiding more and more people on their way to success.
This transmission of knowledge and experience not only strengthens individual profiles, but also enriches the entire organization.
At KTalent and Karisma Hotels & Resorts, gender equity is not only a goal, but a fundamental pillar of our organizational culture.
We are committed to continue working to create an inclusive, diverse and equitable environment, where all people have the same opportunities for growth and professional development.
- GOALS PRESTIGE
IN MEXICO, SPRING 2025 IS
FROM MARCH 20 TO JUNE 20.
Spring is not only synonymous with beautiful flowers and longer days. This season is full of secrets and curiosities.Spring exists thanks to the tilt of the Earth and the first day of spring is called equinox, which means “equal night” in Latin. On that day, day and night last almost the same throughout the world. In Quintana Roo the spring equinox will be on March 20 at 4:01 pm.
Have you ever wondered why flowers appear in spring?
It’s not just for Instagram photos. Plants have an internal clock that tells them when is the perfect time to bloom.
This phenomenon is called photoperiodism, and it basically means that plants know when there are more hours of sunlight Some flowers, like sunflowers, not only follow the Sun, but also communicate with each other! Studies have shown that plants can send chemical signals to warn their neighbors of possible dangers, such as pests, floods and drastic changes in the weather.
Animals
celebrating spring in a big way
Spring is not only a holiday for humans. Animals also have their own traditions. For example, migratory birds travel thousands of miles to arrive on time for the spring festival. And let’s not forget the bees, who come out of their hives to pollinate and make it possible for us to have food. Without them, there would be no coffee or chocolate!
Fun fact: In Japan, the arrival of spring is celebrated with Hanami, a tradition that involves watching the cherry blossoms in bloom. But it’s not just humans who enjoy it: Japanese monkeys also seem to appreciate the beauty of the blossoms - monkeys have even been seen admiring the flowers and being happy in contemplation.
Have you felt more cheerful when spring arrives?
It’s no coincidence. With more hours of sunlight, our body produces more serotonin, the happiness hormone. In addition, the increase in temperature invites us to go out more, exercise and socialize - it’s an energy shot!
Fun fact: In ancient Rome, spring was dedicated to Flora, the goddess of flowers and vegetation. Festivals called Floralias were held, where people danced, drank and decorated everything with flowers. It was the Coachella of the time.
Spring not only brings colorful landscapes and longer days, but it is also a time of renewal, both for nature and for us.
From plants communicating in secret to monkeys enjoying the cherry blossoms, this season is full of magic and curiosities. So the next time you see a flower or hear a bird singing, remember: spring is a party we’re all invited to!
