In 2024, Roatan received more than 1.7 million cruise passengers, consolidating its position as the most visited destination in Central America in this segment.

This flow generated an economic impact of $180 million and created 3,386 direct and indirect jobs, strengthening the local economy.

2. Expanding infrastructure

The Honduran government has invested $20 million in road and airport improvements at Roatán’s Juan Manuel Gálvez airport, facilitating access and improving the visitor experience.

These improvements have enabled the airport to handle traffic of 550,422 passengers in 2023

3. Favourable investment environment

In 2024, Roatan experienced exponential growth in private investment, contributing to a 25% increase in the municipal budget.

More than 1,500 operating permits were issued, including 800 for new tourism-related businesses.

4. Institutional support and sustainability

The Inter-American Development Bank approved a $35 million loan for a national sustainable tourism programme in Honduras, aimed at improving infrastructure and promoting a responsible tourism model.

This institutional backing reinforces the viability and sustainability of investments in Roatan.

Roatan has attracted the attention of investors from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Spain and Italy, interested in its tourist infrastructure and the quality of life it offers.

Fundación Karisma, A.C. Begins a New Phase of Collaboration with Cadena Comercial OXXO, S.A. de C.V. Through the OXXO Customer Rounding-Up Program.

Thanks to the commitment of cashiers and the generosity of customers, donations collected during the months of April, May, and June will help fund cataract surgery campaigns in the northern region of Quintana Roo.

Cataracts affect millions of people in Mexico. They are the leading cause of reversible blindness in the country, and statistics reveal that one in three patients does not receive surgical treatment. In Mexico, more than three million people over the age of 40 live with this condition, which can be treated with timely medical intervention.

For more than nine years, Fundación Karisma, A.C. has responded with determination to this need. To date, it has changed the lives of 331 individuals. With the support of the OXXO Customer RoundingUp Program, the organization aims to increase the number of beneficiaries and meet the growing demand for ophthalmological services in vulnerable communities.

Every year, the foundation organizes outreach brigades to identify cases in hard-to-reach areas.

During April, May, and June, the rounding-up donations at OXXO stores in Cancún will be directed to Fundación Karisma, A.C.

This work is carried out in close coordination with institutions such as the Puerto Morelos DIF, the Benito Juárez DIF, and through participation in events like “Cancún nos une.”

In 2025, the beneficiaries of the campaign “Your Donation, Their New Vision” will be evaluated during the “Abrazando Corazones” medical outreach program, in partnership with the Puerto Morelos DIF. In addition, specialized campaigns will take place in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, and Lázaro Cárdenas, with support from Fundación Karisma’s Mobile Medical Unit.

Citizens in the Cancún area are encouraged to join this cause by asking OXXO cashiers to round up their purchases in support of the foundation during April, May, and June. Every cent counts and can help restore sight to those who need it most.
