Welcome Back!

I’d like to officially go on the record and say that summer is never long enough. Especially this summer, as teachers at the elementary schools were grappling with a new ELA program, junior high teachers were working to create proficiency scales, and high school teachers worked to build rubrics and improve their Canvas courses. Now, teachers hit the ground running and turn all that preparation into action.

I am excited at all the good I see in classrooms district-wide. Teachers are building in time for student ownership and reflection. Small group instruction allows a teacher to target by student, by skill. Students are present and ready to work, and teachers are prepared to give it all they’ve got. Use Epic to Support Literacy

By Shalice Peterson Hello, I wanted to share an awesome thing I learned about Epic. Some of you may know this already, but I thought it was worth sharing. Epic is a free app and online library. I used it last year but discovered some cool things that will help us with Research reading in EL. I looked up books that fit our module one and I as an admin in epic can create a collection. I titled it module 1 reading books. I then went to favorites and assigned the collection to any students I choose. This collection will then be available to the students on the epic app in their account. This is perfect for home research reading because it is free on any device with internet.

They have a lot great books that you don’t need to go buy and will easily be there for the students.

Use Dropbox to Create pdfs

By Christie Tolbert I just found a cool tool for scanning with an iPad and it’s FREE! Dropbox has a built in scanner in its app. It has the capability of taking pictures then creating a fairly decent pdf of the file. You can even add multiple pages to one file.

Use Google Arts and Culture to Explore the World Google Arts & Culture (formerly Google Art Project) is an online platform through which the public can access high-resolution images of artworks housed in the initiative's partner museums.

You can search by artist, medium, time periods, and more. It’s an impressive database of history and art!

Micro-credential Policy Juab School Board approved a district microcredential policy at the August 2017 meeting. It reads as follows: 1. An educator may be compensated for a maximum of 8 earned micro-credentials per year at a rate of $200/credential.

2. Each micro-credential carries the same value without accounting for completion time.

3. Only those micro-credentials vetted by Digital Promise and hosted on Bloomboard are eligible for compensation and Teacher-Leader pathway.

4. Teacher-Leader candidates will inform their building principal of intent to seek TeacherLeader status and share their Pathway application via Google Drive.

5. Teacher-Leader status may be granted to certified employees only.

6. Upon proper application of Teacher-Leader pathway and successful completion of review, educator will send completed application to Human Resources. 5% base salary increase may be implemented beginning in the next pay cycle.

7. Teacher-Leaders may request 5% increase on individual base salary based on a 3 year evaluation cycle, subject to renewal or termination.

8. Limited to one 5% Teacher-Leader increase in a career.

9. Teacher-Leader status is not limited to number of teachers but is based on available district resources. The district will inform teachers at the beginning of each fiscal year if no resources are available to fund micro-credentials.

10. Educators with Teacher-Leader status are asked to share, model, and provide support to other educators in the district, under the direction of the Innovation Specialist.
