Albrecht Announced as Nebo View Principal Blair Albrecht was introduced as the new principal for Nebo View Elementary at the April board meeting. Albrecht said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity. As I come in and see all these parents’ support: this is exactly what I was looking for. I’m excited to be here and be a part of this district.”

As a teacher, he taught 4th and 5th grades. He has his ESL, Gifted and Talented, and Educational Technology endorsements. He has been working as a Title 1 coordinator in Washington County School District for the past six years.

Improve “Away Days”

1 on 1 Conferencing

Use your LMS or a technology tool to help students succeed on days that you can’t be in your classroom. Some ideas: Create a Nearpod so students can work through concepts on their own. This can include your voice, curated content, or practice problems. Another idea: record yourself giving the instruction and send it to students. Then, there is nothing lost in translation with sub plans.

One of the benefits of blended learning is that it often helps teachers increase their individual student contact. Take advantage of that fact. Use as much as your class time with students as possible. Make it part of the routine so that students know you will hold “office hours” during class periodically for students to conference for writer’s workshop, get targeted feedback, or discuss what they are reading.

WOOP Goal Setting

Survey Students

Create a WOOP (Wish, Obstacle, Outcome, Plan) with your students. This is great in a studyhall or homeroom class, but it works in any classroom to add student voice and choice to the school day. Added bonus: WOOP works as you set your own personal goals as well.

What do you wish would change? What is holding you back?

Offer your own informal survey at the end of the school year. Let students give anonymous feedback that helps you improve as a teacher for next year. Leave questions open-ended so you can gain anecdotal data. Consider using technology to collect so handwriting does not come into play when students complete the survey.

With the support of your administrator, plan a course of study using the TeacherLeader Pathway application.

Complete a course of study by earning Bloomboard credentials based on the core four of personalized learning and job context. A minimum of 12 credentials creates a teacher-leader stack. Choose a core four area of focus as you plan.

Schedule a micro-credential defense with your building administrator.

Defend your personalized learning pathway to a committee.

Share artifacts. Articulate the value of your micro-credential choices.

Request an increase in salary upon successful completion of your defense.

Borrow Dash for a week and let your students explore principles of beginning computer science and coding. May is the perfect time to introduce something new to increase student engagement, or to overcome the post-testing blues!

Recognition of Excellence Speech and language pathologists KristiAnn Wright, Shelly Anderson, and Nancy Bassett were recognized for excellence at April’s board meeting.

An SLP is one of the highest-need professionals in the entire education system.

Collectively our SLPS serve over 200 students in our school district. Susan Cowan said, “We’ve got the very best.” Susan then read the words of one of the SLPs, “I love my job. It is fun-filled, forever changing, and deeply rewarding to see students overcome challenges.”

Local businesses were recognized tonight for partnership in career exploration at Juab High.

Dr. Robins offered thanks to those participating, “What this opportunity opens up for our students is nothing but amazing.”

Why make time for Teacher to Teacher Observations?

• Reciprocal observations help improve classrooms! Learning together strengthens the entire

school community.

• Peer observations are non-evaluative. Visits that are low-stakes take anxiety out of administrative

evaluations. It becomes business as usual instead of high-stress.

• Teacher-to-teacher observations are a sign of a healthy school community. It requires trust, a

suspension of judgment, and positive peer relationships.

• Improve your own practice. You may observe a different content area or a different grade level,

or see your own students in a new light. There is always something to learn when you step outside the walls of your own classroom.

• *Don’t forget: best practice for peer observations includes pre and post-conference chats.
