The Round-Up WELCOME to Issue 8 of the Leagues publication Dorchester Sports emerging as deserved victors on the featuring latest News, Match reports and features night. involving the Jewson Dorset Premier Football League, this issue contains a roundup of all League & County Cup matches played this last week.

Merley CS saw their 100% record go when they were deservedly beaten mid-week at an inspired Dorchester Sports.

The weekend’s action was slightly curtailed by the inclement weather and in some cases the current Fuel shortages at petrol stations, with the knock-on effect of fixture amendments for next Saturday’s schedule.

Cobham will be disappointed with their performance, which at times, appeared lack lustred but this should not take anything away from their opponents who, could have in fact, won by more than the odd goal in five.

Sports started brightly and were more cohesive than Cobham from the off, especially in the midfield, when Cobham had the ball, they, too easily, gave the ball away and this led to Sports dictating the play for long periods.

League | 28th September DORCHESTER SPORTS 3 MERLEY CS 2 DORCHESTER Sports upset the odds to end Merley Cobham Sports’ incredible 43-game winning streak Sports deservedly took the lead in the 25th minute with a tense 3-2 victory at the Avenue Stadium, with when they finally sprung the Cobham offside trap and keeper Chris Trim clashed with the oncoming Sports forward which resulted in a penalty and up stepped JAMIE SYMES to plant the ball firmly into the righthand corner of the net.

This setback appeared to wake up Cobham and they started to gain some ascendancy in the match and with the game approaching halftime, in the 42nd minute, Rossiter was put away down the right flank and his fine cross was headed home by STEVE GILBERT to make the score 1-1 at the break.

problems and Cobham reduced the arrears in the 75th minute when ELLIS GEORGE scored a fine headed goal giving Peart no chance in the home goal.

Cobham introduced Connor Ford to the game which gave them a threat on both flanks as they took the game to Sports and with the Dorchester side always looking dangerous on the counter attack, the fans were in for an exciting finale.

SWANAGE T&H 0 MERLEY CS 4 Cup Holders Merley Cobham Sports made their second visit of the season to the Purbecks on Saturday where they faced Swanage in the first round of the Dorset Senior Trophy.

Cobham’s dominance and persistence did make the game more open and Swanage were finding room to attack but the Cobham defence dealt with everything comfortably. Cobham made it 4 in the 68th minute when a pin point cross by Callum Perry found NATHAN WALKER and he headed home well.

The visitors began the second half brightly and in the 47th minute, Marsh forced a mistake on the Swanage defender and crossed superbly for ELLIOTT ROSSITER to finish easily from close range.

The second half didn’t really offer the same quality and chances were at a minimum. But in the 85th minute a real moment of controversy, Lucas Barringer saved well from a Wimborne shot and appeared to clearly have both hands on the ball before JOE FREAK pounced and appeared to kick the ball out of the keeper’s hands and into the net for the winner.

Wimborne dominated possession but didn’t really test the Hammers, however in the 32nd minute, they did get the equaliser when JOE FREAK was played in and his deflected effort beat Hammers keeper Lucas Barringer.

5 minutes later and the visitors were in front when a free kick was played in to the box, and with the home defence resembling statues !! this allowed Wimborne’s SONNY PIKE to tuck away a tidy finish beyond the Hammers keeper.

STURMINSTER MARSHALL 1 STURMINSTER NEWTON 2 Sturminster Newton put themselves in the hat for the next round of the Dorset Senior Cup with a workmanlike victory on a soggy afternoon at Sturminster Marshall.

It was Sturminster Marshall who started brighter, hitting the outside of the post with one of their first attacks and pressing Sturminster Newton into some last ditch defending.

Slowly Sturminster Newton began to find their way into the game, and quickly the momentum changed as they penetrated the Sturminster Marshall defence, however some tame finishing and some great goalkeeping Just before half time the scores were level. Senior League opposition on a very wet & windy Saturday for the first round of the Dorset Senior BALTI SPORTS 3 BLANDFORD UTD 5 Trophy.

Last years beaten finalists Blandford United progressed through after a see saw battle with Balti Wareham went ahead in the first 5 mins when JAMES Sports at Cranford Avenue.
