Let Your Faith Be Bigger Than Your Fear

Today's political and economic climate has created fear, rage, uncertainty, and hopelessness among people. However, some still trust in God and believe He is still in control, no matter what it looks or feels like Despite the threat of war and financial struggles, many feel this is fear and rage is the new normal.

Trusting in God assures us that while we don't know the future, we trust who holds the future. Studying God’s word shows that faith can overcome fear Faith can be a powerful tool in overcoming fear by providing a sense of hope, security, and purpose. It allows us to shift focus from the fear-inducing situation to a source of strength and comfort, enabling us to face challenges with greater courage and resilience.

Romans 10:17 assures us that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. In Romans 10:14, the Apostle Paul asks, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?" But if we are not hearing or reading that word, where is our faith? Where do we draw it from? Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hearing and understanding the Gospel message is essential to developing faith. This highlights the importance of both hearing, and the content heard in building faith.

Genuine Christian faith is not something that originates within us but rather is a result of hearing and believing the message of the Gospel It emphasizes that faith is cultivated through exposure to and understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ, specifically the message about His life, death, and resurrection.

When we look at fear we have to understand that it is a natural human emotion of dread and anxiety in the face of danger. It seems natural to fear that which we do not know or understand But 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us the spirit of fear”. It emphasizes that God empowers believers with a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind, all of which equip them to overcome fear and live boldly for Him. Therefore when we become attentive to his word and apply the wisdom of its words to our lives, we can boldly understand how to “Let your faith be bigger than your fear.”

Bishop Norman Hutchins

A Spiritual Connection With Dr

Norman Hutchins

The gospel community and countless lives around the world paused on June 5 to honor the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Dr. Norman Hutchins who transitioned peacefully in his home in Carson California at the age of 62.

th A revered pastor, platinum-selling recording artist, and servant leader, Dr Hutchins lived a life rooted in purpose, faith and compassion. With a catalogue of anointed songs that have become staples in churches, radio stations, and hearts around the world- including “God’s Got A Blessing (With My Name On It)”, “Battlefield”, “Emmanuel”, “Where I Long To Be”, and “Jesus I Love You” - He inspired and uplifted millions with the message of hope and the unfailing love of God. His wife, Karen Hutchins shared, “Norman was not only my husband and partner in ministry but my greatest source of inspiration. His faith, strength, and love touched every soul he met. Though my heart is heavy, I am comforted, knowing his legacy of hope and healing will continue to shine through the lives he’s changed.”

In 1999 Gospel International (Janette Auguar) conducted an indepth interview with Dr Norman Hutchins To honor his memory and legacy we feature that 1999 interview here

If you think Superman is mild mannered, then you haven't met reverend Dr. Norman Hutchins; An humble, submissive, and accomplished gospel recording artist with a crisp resounding set of vocals that project nothing but the glory of God. If you haven't experienced the fresh anointing of God pouring from your speakers, you haven't plugged in Dr. Hutchins latest release on JDI records. “Battlefield” is the title of the CD and Dr. Hutchins, CEO of frontline ministries, is positioned just right; On the front line.

I met up with Dr. Hutchins at the Church of God Pentecostal in Inglewood, California. Bishop Johnny J. Young, Senior Pastor of that church, had no reservations about entrusting his flock to the very capable hands and the heart of the Christ that dwells in Dr. Hutchins.

That alone says more about his character, his integrity, and his God then I can even share with you in this short story Trust me, anytime a preacher leaves his church in the hands of someone with instructions to preach both services, his reputation and the Spirit of God has to precede him. Between services, I was blessed to make “A Spiritual Connection” with Dr. Hutchins as he gave me some insight on what God has done and what God is doing in the life of a country boy from Kingston, North Carolina. I listened tentatively took notes and marveled at God's handiwork

I had not had the privilege of hearing the CD before talking with Dr. Hutchins. All I knew was the Lord impressed me to “just do it”, just connect with him so I did. The first thing I asked Dr Hutchins was, “What made this CD different from any of the others you recorded”? I had no idea Andre Russell of KJLH radio in Los Angeles asked a similar question on the recording Dr. Hutchins took the time to expand on his answer even more. He said, “The first thing is God's timing. There was a season of preparation, and it was a live church service”. Dr. Hutchins said, “It wasn't a typical recording session. You just roll the tape, let it run and have church” He said something so profound yet so simple gospel recording artists often overlook it Reverend Hutchins said, “You can't turn the Holy Ghost on and off”. It is so very evident that there was no interruption in the flow of the Spirit of the living God during that recording session. Can you imagine turning on your CD player and being showered with the presence of God from Genesis to Revelation, I mean from the beginning to the end? Dr Hutchins expressed how the presence of the Lord was felt after the first song and by the third song some of his choir members were so caught up and engulfed in the presence of God he had to remind them they were recording and should maintain their composure as much as the Lord would allow. Dr. Hutchins said, “The glamour of recording was taken away. There was no visible truck, recording equipment, or anything that reminded those in the presence of anything other than just having church”

Do you mind if I sum up what transpired here? Thank you! Reverend Norman Hutchins took the work of God to the House of God, recorded it with the people of God, in the presence of God. Now I'm not one to gossip and you didn't hear it from me, but Dr. Hutchins said, “Oil and water don't mix”. Ouch!! This is where I want to write in tongues and talk to Jesus just because I am not sure you're listening and maybe you didn't want to hear that (shon de ro bo se). Don't get upset with Rev. Hutchins, for it is written, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, sayeth the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; And I will receive you” (I Corinthians 6: 17 ). The Lord received the work that was done at Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ, and he made that evident by showing up every time I played the CD. An absolutely incredible, fresh, yoke breaking anointing rides on the instrumentation, lyrics, and vocals of “Battlefield”.

Even though Dr Hutchins has walked among and worked with some of the gospel's greatest recording artists, he maintains a touchable, meek (not weak) and lowly spirit. He is all about the Father's business; all about Kingdom building. That morning Dr. Hutchins taught a message entitled “The Man in the Mirror”. The question he placed on the hearts of the people was this: “ When you look at yourself in the mirror what do you really see”? He said, “Nobody knows you like you know you”. He reiterated genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image in the image of God created he him; Male and female created he them” I'm not sure who Dr Hutchin sees when he looks at himself in the mirror, but I see a real good reflection of Jesus. I see a man with a great ministry.

Dr. Hutchins said, “Great ministries are birthed out of pain, transition, trials, and joy”. He said, “It's not just rain and not just sunshine, but both elements are needed to create great ministries” Dr Hutchins said, “There are no ego trips when Jesus takes you through and you have to determine how bad you want it because many turned back”. Dr. Hutchins said he has come too far to go back and its brighter in front than behind. I received that as a personal encouragement for myself and for people everywhere who are on the “Battlefield” for Jesus.

Dr. Hutchins says, “Every trial prepares you for greatness and you never climb to the top without falling to the bottom. On your way back up you remember where you have fallen, and you don't go that way again”. Dr. Hutchins imparted wisdom in my hearing that morning he said, “God can use anybody and there should be no ego trips because the best singer hasn't even sung yet”. Brother said, “If you think God has run out of anointing when he gets to you, then you are wrong”. He reminded gospel recording artists and everyone that, “Having a gift from God doesn't change God, it changes you. You become a tool God can use”.

It was very evident even before asking, that Reverend Hutchins ministry, mannerisms speech and level of excellence has been significantly influenced by one of the greatest visionary leaders of our time, Bishop Charles E Blake, Pastor of West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, California. In fact, Reverend Hutchins first hit recording which also sparked his solo career “Press Toward the Mark” was inclusive in West Angeles's ‘Saints in Praise Volume 1’ Following that successful track, Hutchins signed a five year contract with Sparrow records as a writer and recording artist

Reverend Hutchins cautioned Gospel Recording artist and advised them to be good stewards over their time, talent, and finances He said “In order to be successful, you have to give God time. When you empty yourself let God make deposits back in you. Don't sing and leave. Let God minister to you”. Now that's wisdom from on high. Musicians that have an ear to hear more than the key or the melody. hear what the spirit of God is saying to you through Reverend Hutchins. Now hear this ... regarding your talent: Reverend Hutchins said, “When Jesus ministered and toured on earth he never charged - not saying we should not be compensated, but when you take the gift and talent God has given you and market it only for your financial gain, you prostitute the gospel”. Reverend Hutchins is a preacher who sings and his words, like the word of God, were “quick, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4: 12 ). I remember one preacher saying if you can take it, you can make it. That is to say, if we can receive and digest instructions and correction from God, even when it hurts, we can “go on into perfection; Not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works” (Hebrews 6:). Reverend Hutchins expounded on finances by saying, “God expects us to be good stewards over our finances invest in the Body of Christ and in the Kingdom to win souls”. Reverend Hutchins admonished us to become a channel of blessings. By that he means, “it doesn't stop with youGod wants to know if he can bless you to bless someone” I heard one preacher put it like this, if God can get it through you, He can get it to you”

Reverend Dr. Norman Hutchins continued to pour wisdom and knowledge into the main artery of the heart of gospel recording artists, and those on the “Battlefield” for Jesus, by casting down fear of pitfalls. He said, “Any gifted person will attract more evil than good” I was almost disappointed by that statement - I know God has gifted Dr Hutchins and gifted you, and gifted me and I know we get tired of evil, so I emphatically ask, “why”? Without hesitation “Because the devil is trying to stop your destiny”, he said “I find then a law that when I would do good evil is present with me” (Romans 7: 19 ).

To the gospel recording industry, Reverend Hutchins said, “The devil has no problem with you making gospel music as long as it's not anointed”. I was glad Reverend Hutchins continued because I wasn't sure how we had any influence over whether God decided to anoint something or not. Is anybody listening? Reverend Dr. said, “If you are not living right, it's not effective and it won't change lives” That made it perfectly clear The devil's territory is not threatened if no one's life is changed, and Jesus will not allow his spirit to dwell in an unclean temple. Do you think the Holy Ghost is going to check into a hotel with you and sister or brother ‘not your spouse’?

Jesus is not going to make you live right, however based on how you choose to live determines if your ministry will be the effective life changing ministry God intends it to be. I know we're not perfect, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 323 ), but have we made-up our minds to let God shine his light on us, purge us, mold us, and make us to be the vessels of honor he would have us to be? Have we become “any way you wanna do me, Lord, it's all right with me” Christians? Have we been transformed with renewed minds, as my Pastor Bishop Andrew C Turner II, would say, “Are we ready to stop crawling around on our bellies like caterpillars? Can we transform to butterflies, fly from flower to flower and partake of the sweet nectar there as we pollinate other flowers”. Are we ready to cross over the Jordan to be a land flowing with milk and honey, or shall we do this wandering thing for another 40 years? God forbid!

I was pretty tickled when Reverend Hutchins shared more about his life as a little boy back in Kingston, North Carolina. It was clear that God was preparing him for the ministry at a very early age. Reverend Hutchins said, “My grandfather was a sharecropper, and I attended the chickens, 50 to 80,000 of them. My job”, he said, “was to collect the eggs Every Sunday I went to Church and on Monday I would preach that message to 50 to 80,000 thousand”. When I realized he meant he preached to the chickens, I laughed out loud. God must have gotten a kick out of looking down on Norman as he collected eggs and preached to the chickens

Dr. Hutchins wasn't too proud to share how he had to use the outhouse for a bathroom and that bread, molasses, and bacon was considered a meal. When Dr. Hutchins was six or seven years old, he would draw pictures with lots of stick people all around and he would be on stage preaching. God even used his teachers to prepare him for his destiny, imagine this, remember the dreaded State student test we all endured? During the breaks, the teacher would have Norman stand on the desk and perform for the class. He was doing a mini concert and serving his peers as early as elementary school.

Being a servant is something God continued to instill in Dr. Hutchins, even during his adulthood. I was blessed by an experience he shared during a Gospel Music Workshop of America conference. Hutchins said, “It was about the time of my second record, and I shared a table with Kirk Franklin. We were doing a giveaway of promotional material and signing posters and that sort of thing”. Dr. Hutchins said, “This was the time Kirk was taking off and no one knew me”.

He explained how Kirk was interacting with the people and vice versa he said, “I just kept stuffing bags” He further outlined how this was an opportune time for the enemy to begin whispering things that would make him feel inferior in the servant role God had given him for that moment. “Everybody wants to be successful”, he said, “I watched Kirk skyrocket, and I asked God, ‘what about me’”? God said, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord (psalms 37:23) the path I have chosen for you is different” No, no, no that is not to say Kirk is not a good man. It is to say, because Dr Hutchins is a good man, he would take the steps God ordained for him with the understanding that they were different from Kirk’s … not better, not worse, just different.

I asked Reverend Hutchins his opinion of the direction of gospel music. As a Preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a two- time Dove Award nominee: a two- time Stellar award nominee: a two-times James Cleveland award nominee: and a Grammy Award nominee, Dr. Hutchins has certainly earned the credibility to speak on the subject. He said, “It’s a back door approach to the enemy. If the gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost” (II Corinthians 4:3 ). Reverend Hutchins said, “If we walk like, talk like, act like, and look like the devil, how would anybody know it's God”? He said, “It's OK to cross over, as long as you take the cross over. Christians are adopting secular ways of doing business” Dr Hutchins continued by saying, “God doesn't like being in a box”. In other words, let's not limit God he went on to explain how God can blow on your ministry, and it can be a big overnight success, and if God chooses, that same breath can make your ministry dissipate. He used the example of the children of Israel who wandered for 40 years but when God decided it was time it took three days to reach the promised land. No man can come to the Father except he draws him. “Be holy” Dr Hutchins admonished, “without spot or blemish” He reminded us that “God has given us gifts and talents do not forget God”.

I praise God for James Roberson, Producer and President of JDI (Just Do It) records in Los Angeles and Jason White of White Throne Productions. Roberson graciously counted himself blessed to produce “Battlefield” and recognizes the anointing God has placed on Reverend Hutchins music. His submission has enabled us all to saturate ourselves in that anointing. You might think I'm sugar coating it but it's “A Spiritual Connection” and I have to tell it like it is. You see “for they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; But they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit”. (Romans 8 5) If you haven't seen God's fingerprint pick up a copy of “Battlefield” because he handled this CD. Reprint from Gospel International 1999

Markees Williams, from Los Angeles, CA, grew up in the church and recognized early on that Ministry and Music were part of his divine path.

Markees has performed with renowned gospel artists like Le’Andria Johnson, James Fortune, Shirley Caesar, William Murphy, Tremaine Hawkins, and Donnie McClurkin. He is a fan of traditional gospel with a contemporary twist This blend appeals to a wide audience, from young adults to seniors, as shown by his well-attended album release concert at New Hope Baptist Church in Los Angeles.

Williams has been a popular guest at Southern California churches for over a decade. Recently, his career advanced as he began opening for national artists like Le’Andria Johnson, Wess Morgan, James Fortune, and Donnie McClurkin. His repertoire includes traditional lyrics in an upbeat style Williams, who grew up attending Evening Star Missionary Baptist Church, loves the soul-moving feel of traditional gospel songs. He credits his mother and grandmother for shaping his music ministry. After his mother passed away, Williams drew on her teachings to cope with the loss, which inspired him to continue his ministry. His new single, "Nobody But Jesus," shares his uplifting message.

Williams asserts that incorporating Psalm 34:1-4 into all of his endeavors is essential for maintaining a grounded and focused approach while developing his ministry "My preferred scripture reflects my character and actions during challenging times," stated Williams. "I am committed to honoring God regardless of circumstances or location. David said, 'I will bless the Lord at all times,' signifying both favorable and adverse conditions, which resonates with me consistently."

A little worm living in an apple heard rumors of a flood that would wipe out all life. Terrified, he learned of Noah's ark meant to save the animals. Determined, the worm rolled his apple across deserts, grasslands, mountains, valleys, rivers, and cities. After weeks, he reached the ark and bumped into Noah's ankle. Noah picked him up and asked what he wanted. The worm requested a spot on the ark, but Noah replied, "Sorry, we only take animals in pears, not apples

When Bobby arrived, the football game was already underway. “Why are you so late?” his friend asked. “I couldn't choose between church and the game, so I flipped a coin,” Bobby replied. “But that shouldn't have taken long,” said his friend. “I had to flip it 35 times”

Two worn bills arrived at the Federal Reserve Bank a $100 and a $1. As they traveled on the conveyor belt, the hundred-dollar bill bragged about its adventures at fine restaurants, Broadway shows, and even a Caribbean cruise. The one-dollar bill replied, "I've been to various churches—Methodist, Episcopal, Baptist, and Lutheran." Confused, the hundred-dollar bill asked, "What's a church?"

There Is Hope

Anyone living today can tell that there’s a whole lot going on in this world …Not all of it good either. As a creative it’s very hard not to be affected by these things. I believe it was Nina Simone who so insightfully quoted “I choose to reflect the times and the situations in which I find myself. That, to me, is my duty.” This highlighted her belief in an artist’s role in reflecting society

I too belief that as a Kingdom Citizen it’s even more important for us as believers to speak to this time. But not in just the acknowledgment of it, but in the hope that we have in Jesus. There are many artists who because of their consciousness of what was going on decided it was very important to speak to it in a creative way Whether that was through poetry like Maya Angelo “Yet Still I Rise”, Marvin Gaye “What’s Going On” or Stevie Wonder’s “Love’s In Need Of Love Today.”

These we’re all powerful songs that spoke to the current times and the lens that these artists saw them through I feel as a believer It’s even more my responsibility our responsibility to speak to the times that we’re in, but in a way that gives hope in a way that points people to the only Hope we truly really have. As I was contemplating what to write about this month I thought about this and I asked God what should I say? And through the Holy Spirit he said it’s already been written. It’s been spoken before and the same remains now.

In 1986 we saw the Chernobyl Disaster, Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster, Earthquake in EL Salvador, Iran-Contra Affair which heightened tensions & talks of war There was also Hands Across America where 5 million people formed a human chain from NY City to Long Beach, California, to raise money to fight hunger and homelessness. Let’s not forget the AIDS Epidemic. Oh I failed to mention this year was also designated as the International Year Of Peace by the United Nations. (really?)

Listen I too was a young 25-year old songwriter who viewed the events of the world through a creative lens. There was a sense of responsibility to write something that spoke to these events but from a voice of hope and not despair! During this time of unrest God downloaded these lyrics to me “Yes there’s hope for the world, an answer for the world No need to worry or doubt, it will work out. No need to give up our hope, For as sure as there is God, There Is Hope!

Fast forward to today and as we look around and see all the devastation, wars, natural disasters poverty, homelessness & such, it feels much like 1986. Yet we don’t hear many songs that speak to our help Psalm 121:1 Declares “I will lift up my eyes to the hills from which cometh my help ” This signifies a conscious decision to turn one's focus away from earthly troubles and towards God, the ultimate source of help and protection. It's an act of faith, acknowledging that true and lasting help comes from the divine, not from worldly sources.

The psalmist's confidence comes from knowing that God, the creator of heaven and earth, has the power to help and protect. I must say that we as creatives whether in song, voice, instruments and visual arts and such must realize the responsibility we have in the earth realm to point those we encounter the source of power, deliverance and sustainability Jesus!!!!

For some the only Jesus they will encounter is YOU! Yes I said YOU! We as the church must see this time as an opportunity and not a time to feel hopeless! God told Joshua to “only be strong and courageous.” I can hear him saying to us I AM THE SAME GOD! I still rule and reign! Nothing happens without my permission! So let us boldly pick up our instruments, pens, lend our voices and visual lenses to express this same message that AS SURE AS THERE IS GOD, THERE IS HOPE! Hope for the hurting, the lost, the incarcerated, the sick, the lonely, the confused, the mentally ill, those who have been devastated! We are not alone in this journey When we choose to boldly proclaim what God has given us to proclaim, our helper the Holy Spirit will stand up in us to make the difference and help us proclaim “There Is Hope”

Who’s doing what, when, and where in and around the gospel music industry and more....

The Tiny Desk Concert is where an artist performs at a desk in an open office, creating an intimate and unique concert experience. Recently, Cece Winans dusted off songs she hadn't performed in decades to craft this moment. (And that's without even touching the groundbreaking work she did alongside her brother BeBe Winans.) From the joyous call and response of "Pray" to the crowd's audible gasp at the opening line of "Alabaster Box" to the heartfelt "Goodness of God" singalong, this performance wasnt just nostalgic, it was a reminder of Winans' enduring spiritual and cultural impact as one of the most decorated gospel artists of all time

The gospel music industry lost another giant. Sanchez Harley, a producer, songwriter, arranger, and music educator. Mr. Harley has worked with such artist as Shirley Ceaser, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, Peabo Bryson, Dr. Bobby Jones and New Life and many more. National President & CEO, Pastor CeJay of the National Association of Gospel Radio recently shared….

We pause to celebrate one of the most prolific voices and visionaries of our time the incomparable Kirk Franklin. At the 25th Annual BET Awards, Kirk was honored with the Icon Award, a recognition that not only reflects his groundbreaking contributions to gospel music, but also his unmatched ability to transcend genres, inspire generations, and elevate the culture.

Kirk Franklin is more than an artist — he is a cultural architect whose creativity, authenticity, and boldness have shifted the sound of faith-based music around the world. His performance at the awards was a powerful reminder of why he continues to lead with impact and innovation.

But beyond the stage and the spotlight, Kirk is also a man of deep humility and connection. During a recent visit to Las Vegas, he noticed the leadership of the National Association of Gospel Radio having breakfast at the Four Seasons Without hesitation, he moved his own breakfast from the outdoor patio and joined us at our table — choosing fellowship over fanfare.

That moment wasn’t just kind — it was a testament to the respect he holds for those of us who labor in radio to keep this music alive. He sees us. He values us. And for that, we are grateful.

Congratulations again to Kirk Franklin on this well-deserved honor Your legacy is not just in your lyrics, but in your heart for people and your commitment to the Kingdom.

We Keep TryingTo Be “Them”

As a former label owner, I’ve learned firsthand that most people have no real understanding of how the business of gospel music actually works. For those truly interested, I strongly recommend "This Business of Gospel Music" by attorney James Walker it’s an eye-opening and essential read

When PepperCo Music Group first launched, I quickly realized how little I understood about getting a record to market. It takes much more than a great artist and good songs. You need skilled songwriters, musicians, producers, studio engineers, and the budget to make it all happen. But even then, the hardest part is getting your music to the consumer

You need radio You need professionals who know how to work radio (shoutout to Telisa Stinson). You need marketing, promotion, advertising (thank you, Teresa Jackson). Back then, you also needed CD pressing and physical distribution. The truth is, we didn’t own those channels. As an industry, we never had ownership of manufacturing or distribution and the closest we got to major label support was Motown(not doing gospel back then)

And yes,I recognize that getting music to market has changed considerably, that is not the point here.

And let’s talk publishing. Gospel never had a strong publishing house where songwriters could pitch their work, or even collect on it properly. Most gospel artists don’t have health, life, or dental insurance. Many aren’t even structured to pay taxes or operate as proper entities They work hard for every dollar they earn often without protection, security, or even guaranteed compensation

I’ve traveled with the late Lecresia Campbell. I’ve watched her pour her heart into ministry only for the promoter to vanish before the show was over no payment, no care. Artists have been stranded at airports, left without hotel accommodations, and experienced traumas they rarely speak of. This is the dark side of the business far from the lights of the stage

Yes, there are occasional scandals, moral failures, and public missteps But the truth? Scandals don’t hurt sales nearly as much as they hurt kingdom credibility and advancement.

So here we are in 2025 still singing the same tune. You cannot control what you do not own.

Let’s revisit this conversation after we own the radio stations, the television networks, the publishing houses, the distribution channels When artists have healthcare. When we don’t have to start a GoFundMe just to bury a gospel legend. I love the sound. I love the genre. I love the people. But our issues run deeper than an award show.

We keep trying to be “them” (the secular industry), when we’re not.

A Pastor’s Perspective

Make Almighty God Absolute

Here we go again Just when we as a people thought we wouldn't have to ever repeat an era of time in the 20th Century that caused our elders and ancestors a life of pain, heartache, suffering and even death; we now find ourselves in the 21st Century, in an age old war.

With the current government administration that has been waiting in the lurks to strategically reignite an old system under the guise of a new name, they call it Project 2025 but it's really an updated version of Jim Crow. Jim Crow is not really a person but a system. It navigates systemic racism legally by creating certain laws and policies, gerrymandering, isolating and ostracizing races and cultures. With the hope of keeping them from evolving within mainstream society and it promotes an evil thought process that one particular race of people is superior to all other races. That's just to name a few things about this system. Oh and those that cater to this system believe God wants it this way

This does not happen overnight it is calculated by design and slowly implemented through years of planning The cold part about it, it's diabolically done right before your eyes but when you become nonchalant about what is happening in your legislative branches of power , laws will be passed and the oppressor will gain more controll. When you do finally open your eyes and expand your intellect the deed is done.

The vanguards for MAGA (Make America Great Again) pushed this concept so much until it's a part of mainstream culture. I do MAGA too but my acronym stands for Make Almighty God Absolute. Leadership under a dictator and authoritarian only exacerbates relations and will never produce true allegiance for a narcissist.

In the song "We Are The World", the first line says , There comes a time when we heed a certain call when the world must come together as one Then there is another line in the song that says , Let us realize that change can only come when we stand together as one. The lyrics of the song were written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie in 1985, produced by Quincy Jones and recorded by some of our most famous award winning secular artist. The song was a response to the famine in Ethiopia. By the way this collective group consisted of all races, nationalities, men women, and religious beliefs

(MAGA)

There's a great Clarion call for Social Justice and Liberation Theology in this hour in which we live. It's not what are we going to do, but rather, what are we going to address our concerns now. All hands must be on deck for this assignment because we are already behind time Above all the church cannot afford to be silent We cannot shout holes in the carpet Sunday and go back home like nothing is happening. We can't sit in another conference, convention, or gathering, spend money leave and go back to the same old thing. In our zeal to be relevant have we compromised our identity and power as the Church mighty and strong. When Christ our ultimate example was all about Social Justice.

We who are seasoned in age must become acclimated to the tools of this virtual and digital age that we live, and revive the fight in us that brought us through in years past. We must under-gird the next generation with strategies. Wisdom and foresight. The young ones must realize they carry the mantle and will be the new gatekeepers Respect history, guard it, learn from it, preserve it because your generation will construct a new era and new system. This incoming generation will have to master fighting not in a physical manner but with intellect, finances, stamina, unshakable faith and undying love for God's people You will have to learn the difference between getting into Good Trouble from just being in trouble.

Generals are being called out of the earth realm, the old gatekeepers are tired and sick, Paradigms have shifted, and old regimes are being torn down. There's a new model. No longer is there one leader that fits all. Remember what affects one directly affects us all indirectly. Believe it or not we are interconnected.

Understanding Fear: A Compassionate Perspective

Growing up in church, I often felt misunderstood when I shared my fears. Instead of the comfort I sought, I received sharp rebuke from church leaders, reminding me of the scripture, “God does not give us a spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind ” While true, it often felt unloving— like a rehearsed script devoid of compassion. I found myself momentarily quickened to pull myself together, only to be met with the same fears again.

As a mental health provider and a Pastor of Worship, I now recognize the importance of revisiting the topic of fear within the church. It's essential that we move beyond the one-liner scriptures and truly “sit in” people's stories. Let’s take a moment to explore fear together.

The Nature of Fear

Fear is a natural, God-given emotion that plays a crucial role in our lives It alerts us to danger and helps us protect ourselves (Psalm 56:3) When fear arises from genuine threats like a growling pit bull approaching us it’s a healthy response. However, there’s also a type of fear that goes beyond caution: the “spirit of fear.” This pervasive anxiety can paralyze us and is not divinely inspired.

So, what is the difference between “natural fear” and “spirit of fear”…

The Unhealthy Side of Fear

Unhealthy fear can be debilitating and manifest in various ways: Persistent and Irrational: Fear may arise in situations that pose no real threat, like social anxiety, leading to avoidance behaviors. For example- A person may experience intense fear of speaking in public, even in small, supportive settings. This fear leads to them avoiding any opportunity to present or share their thoughts, even when the audience is friendly and encouraging

Paralyzing Effect: It can prevent you from pursuing goals or enjoying activities, creating a cycle of avoidance. For example- An individual may have a dream of starting their own business but feels overwhelmed by fear of failure This fear prevents them from taking necessary steps, such as creating a business plan or networking, causing them to stay in an unsatisfying job instead Physical Symptoms: Chronic fear can lead to anxiety, panic attacks, or depression, affecting overall health.

· Negative Impact on Relationships: It may strain connections with loved ones as individuals withdraw or avoid social interactions. This withdrawal creates distance in their relationships, leading to feelings of isolation and misunderstandings with loved ones who may not understand the reason behind the avoidance

Cultivating a Healthier Relationship with Fear

Recognizing the difference between healthy and unhealthy fear is the first step toward managing emotions. Here are some strategies to help:

Acknowledge Your Feelings: Reflect on your fears. Are they rational or persistent?

Challenge Negative Thoughts: Use cognitive restructuring techniques to reframe fearful thoughts

Gradual Exposure: Face your fears in a controlled way to reduce their power over time. Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to a mental health professional if fear disrupts your daily life.

Fear and Faith

Experiencing fear doesn’t automatically mean you lack faith Faith is a belief in something greater, often accompanied by hope Matthew 14:30-31 (NIV) reads: “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’”

Here, Peter's fear while walking on water, didn't erase his faith. He turned to Jesus for help in his moment of fear Many people of faith encounter fear but find strength in their beliefs in God to overcome it It’s important to recognize that fear can lead to spiritual growth through reflection and prayer. So don’t be a “fear” bully. Handle your brothers and sisters with fear carefully.

A Daily Prayer for Fear

So beloved, as you navigate moments of fear, let this be your prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You today, seeking Your comfort and strength. In times of fear and uncertainty, remind me that You are my refuge and fortress. Help me to trust in Your promises and cast my anxieties upon You. Grant me courage to face my fears and wisdom to discern between healthy caution and paralyzing dread. Fill my heart with peace that surpasses all understanding and guide my thoughts away from doubt. May Your love dispel any spirit of fear that seeks to take hold of my heart. Help me walk boldly in faith, knowing You are always with me.Thank You for Your everlasting presence and support. I place my fears in Your hands, trusting that You will lead me through every challenge.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen

Let’s embrace fear with compassion, understanding, and love, fostering an environment where we can support one another on our journeys

Dr. Jewyl

Hello family! This month’s theme is so powerful and relevant for my life: “Let Your FAITH be BIGGER Than Your FEAR!” I have been on a Faith journey for the last 8 months. My primary source of income came to a sudden end and I had to pivot and try to figure out some things.Astonishing enough, I didn’t panic like I usually would, I thought that this was a “God Move” and I was like ok Lord, I’m leaning on your WORD through this Looking over everything and making some adjustments, I planned that I would be ok 4 or 5 months without hitting crisis mode.

Ironically several opportunities presented themselves and I became excited with each one all for them to just fade into the wind Great promises but no follow through from the potential clients once I followed up with them. I didn’t sweat it because I was walking out this journey on my FAITH. In the midst of this, I had one aunt to become sick and the doctors and said to come and say your goodbyes so I packed up and went home to Indianapolis. But God stated that it wasn’t her time and he performed a miracle in all of our eyes. The doctors and medical staff were amazed by her transformation After being in Indy for over 3 weeks I made my way back home only to realize that my oldest aunt fell ill a few weeks later My oldest aunt made her life transition a few weeks ago and the miracle aunt attended her sister’s funeral. Imagine that!

I returned home and kept seeking out work and clients Meanwhile I ran into 3 major road blocks that hit me at my core and made me waver on what was happening in my life. Lord I see and understand how Job felt, and I think I’m right there with him now but I’m still trusting in you and your word. Meanwhile two of my other funding sources abruptly came to an end with no definition of when they would return to the table.I’m also getting near to the date that I projected that I would be in major trouble So the fear started creeping in because I am like Lord I am walking in your word and doing your work, please send me my miracle Psalms 46:1-3 states: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. The miracles never come how we expect them to come! Two unexpected checks came in the mail! Two people reached out and stated that God had placed me on their hearts and sent an unsolicited financial blessing. I ended up getting booked for a last minute project I say all of this because nothing has been cut off meaning God has not allowed anything to go lacking. I cancelled a few planned trips, because I needed to be a good steward of what I had. Being a good steward over what God has given you, that’s another chapter in itself!

Fear will creep in because we are human but when we shake it off and pour ourselves into the word of God, our Faith can allow us to keep our hope and trust in Christ. I encourage you to stand on the word of God and remain steady in allowing your FAITH to be BIGGER than Your FEAR!!! You will soar!

When Your Faith is Bigger

Than Your Fear: Trust God to Lead You to the Right Partner

In a world that often glorifies perfection and instant gratification, the journey to finding a life partner can feel overwhelming. Social media, dating apps, and societal expectations can create a sense of urgency and pressure to find “the one” the perfect partner who checks every box. But for those who walk by faith, there is a deeper, more peaceful path: trusting God to lead you to the right person in His perfect timing.

The Illusion of Control

It’s natural to want to take control of your love life After all, we’re taught from a young age to set goals, make plans, and work hard to achieve them But relationships are not like career paths or academic achievements. They involve two hearts, two journeys, and a divine plan that often unfolds in ways we can’t predict. When we try to orchestrate every detail of our romantic future, we risk falling into fear — fear of missing out, fear of being alone, fear of choosing the wrong person. This fear can lead us to settle for less than God’s best or to chase after people who aren’t meant for us It can also cause us to doubt ourselves and God’s goodness

Faith Over Fear

Faith is the antidote to fear It’s the quiet confidence that God knows what He’s doing, even when we don’t. It’s the belief that He sees the desires of our hearts and is working behind the scenes to bring the right person into our lives at the right time. However, if we are chasing someone to be in our lives, that God did not assign to ourselves, we are only delaying who God has for us.

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart ” This doesn’t mean God is a genie who grants wishes, but what it mean, is that as we draw closer to Him, our desires begin to align with His will. We start to want what He wants for us including the kind of partner who will help us grow in love, faith, and purpose.

Trusting the Process

Trusting God with your love life doesn’t mean being passive. It means being prayerful, intentional, and open to His guidance. It means seeking His wisdom in your decisions, being honest about your needs and values, and allowing Him to shape your heart while you wait

Sometimes, the waiting season can feel like a wilderness You may wonder if God has forgotten you or if you’re doing something wrong. But the waiting is not wasted. It’s a time of preparation — for you and for the person God is preparing for you. It’s a time to grow in character, deepen your relationship with God, and become the kind of partner you hope to find.

Letting Go of the “Perfect” Partner

One of the biggest obstacles to trusting God in relationships is the idea of finding the “perfect” partner. Perfection is a myth. No one is flawless, and no relationship is without challenges What matters more than perfection is compatibility, shared values, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to grow together in love and faith. When you let go of the fantasy of perfection, you make room for grace. You begin to see people — and yourself — through God’s eyes. You recognize that love is not about finding someone who completes you, but about choosing someone to walk with you, support you, grow with you and be consistent in your life.

Faith in Action

So how do you put your faith into action when it comes to relationships?

1.Pray consistently – Talk to God about your desires, fears, and hopes. Ask Him to guide your steps and prepare your heart.

2.Seek wisdom – Read Scripture, talk to mentors, and learn from healthy relationships around you.

3.Be open – Sometimes God’s plan doesn’t look like what you expected. Be willing to step outside your comfort zone.

4.Stay grounded – Don’t compromise your values or settle out of fear. Trust that God’s timing is perfect.

Focus on becoming – Instead of obsessing over finding the right person, focus on becoming the right person — someone who is loving, faithful, and rooted in Christ

A Love Story Written by God

When you trust God with your love story, you invite Him to be the author. And God writes the best stories — ones filled with purpose, redemption, and grace. His timing may not match yours, and His ways may not always make sense, but His plans are always good.

Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Let that truth bring you peace. Let your faith be bigger than your fear. Trust that the God who created you, who knows you intimately, and who loves you unconditionally, is more than capable of bringing the right person into your life — not when you’re perfect, but when you’re ready

Render to Caesar What is Caesar’s: A Biblical and Practical Look at Paying Estimated Taxes

In our previous article, we discussed the different types of taxes that are due—but what happens when we don't pay or withhold enough taxes throughout the year to meet our tax obligations? That's when estimated taxes come into play! I found that this area is often overlooked by small business owners, freelancers, and entrepreneurs Many don’t realize that paying estimated taxes throughout the year can actually help reduce their overall tax liability (and their stress) when the tax season rolls around. They can also thank themselves later when they notice a reduction in their tax liability as a result of paying the estimated taxes on time.

In the New Testament, Jesus said, "Render to Caesar what is Caesar’s," reminding us of our tax obligations to government agencies. In this article, we will piggyback on paying taxes by addressing estimated taxes. Including what they are, what triggers them, who's responsible for paying for them, when they’re due, and more.

What Are Estimated Taxes?

Estimated taxes are advance payments made (primarily) to the IRS on income not subject to automatic withholdings, such as self-employment income, income from interest, dividends, rent, and some forms of retirement income.

Employees are used to having taxes withheld from their paychecks throughout the year as their income is earned. However, automatic withholdings do not occur on certain forms of income (as indicated above).

To ensure taxpayers meet their tax obligations, estimated taxes can be paid throughout the year rather than a large lump sum at the end of the year.

What Triggers Estimated Taxes?

Many individuals and small business owners are unaware of when estimated taxes are due. This requirement kicks in if: a) you expect to owe at least $1,000 or more in taxes after all withholdings and refundable credits have been subtracted; b) your tax withholdings and credits will be less than the smaller of either 90% of the current year's tax liability or 100% of the previous (full year's) tax liability.

Who's Responsible for Paying Estimated Taxes?

Individuals and businesses can be required to pay estimated taxes. For example, selfemployed individuals, freelancers, gig workers, landlords, or investors who receive income from dividends, interest, or other capital gains could be required to pay estimated taxes Some retired individuals with large sums of non-wage income could also be required to pay estimated taxes.

Businesses, including sole proprietors, partnerships, and certain C corporations (based on different thresholds and other requirements), are required to pay estimated taxes if they expect to owe $1,000 or more in taxes Pass through companies such as S corporations and certain LLCs, are required to pay estimated taxes on the owner's level.

How Frequently Should Estimated Taxes Be Paid?

Estimated taxes are normally due on a quarterly basis as follows:

1st Quarter: April 15 (for income earned January 1–March 31)

2nd Quarter: June 15 (for income earned April 1–May 31)

3rd Quarter: September 15 (for income earned June 1–August 31)

4th Quarter: January 15 (of the following year, for income earned September 1–December 31)

Which Government Agency Should Estimated Taxes be Paid To?

Most estimated taxes are paid to the IRS. However, there are cases when they’re paid to state agencies such as the Franchise Tax Board, the Department of Revenue or Taxation, or an equivalent agency (which varies by state).

Penalties for Not Paying Estimated Taxes

Determining how much should be paid in estimated taxes can be confusing. One way to determine how much is owed is by using what's referred to as the Safe Harbor Rule. As indicated above, taxpayers who pay 100% of the previous year's taxes or 90% of the current year's taxes will meet the estimated tax requirements of the IRS. This is important because you could face additional interest and underpayment penalties if you don't pay enough taxes during the tax year Applying the Safe Harbor Rule will help you avoid these penalties.

Conclusion

Keeping accurate accounting records throughout the year is important This makes it easier to identify potential tax liabilities In Matthew 17:24-27, even Christ recognized that taxes were due to the tax authorities. In like manner, we should pay our fair share of taxes. That's not to say we shouldn't implement tax strategies that legally reduce our taxes. However, we should keep our financial records organized so we will know what's due. If you notice a significant increase or decrease in your income, recalculating your estimated tax payments accordingly is important

If you have concerns about whether or not you should pay estimated taxes, consult with your accountant or tax preparer or feel free to contact Johnson's Bookkeeping & Accountancy Group at (888) 910-0426 or by email at debora@johnsonsvagroup.com.
