"The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him."

Proverbs 23:24

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

A Godly father deeply loves his family, mirroring Christ's love for the church.

He shows compassion, understanding, and empathy for his children's struggles and challenges.

He is patient and understanding, not easily provoked to anger.

Leadership and Guidance:

He leads his family by example, demonstrating faith and integrity in all areas of life.

He guides his children toward a relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and spiritual instruction.

He provides wise counsel and correction, not out of judgment but out of love, as God disciplines us

He provides for his family's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, modeling God's provision.

He makes time for his family, showing that they are his priority. He encourages and comforts his children, mirroring God's comforting presence.

He is a forgiving father, just as God is forgiving.

He is understanding and gracious, even when his children make mistakes.

He welcomes his children back with open arms when they stray, as God welcomes us in the parable of the prodigal son.

In essence, a Godly father strives to reflect the character of God, demonstrating love, compassion, leadership, and forgiveness in all aspects of his life as a father.

A Spiritual Connection With Dr. Monica R. Butler

When God gives a vision or an assignment it is always bigger than us, but it is just His size, and He gets all the glory for bringing it into fruition. Yet we honor the yielded vessels He uses to accomplish His purpose. I have the absolute privilege to “connect” with His called and chosen vessels of honor and this month, it is the beautiful, intellectual and purposed, Dr. Monica R. Butler, founder of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame (GMHOF). While every other discipline and genre of music salutes it’s heritage in a structural monumental way, we would be remiss to disregard Gospel music, the very foundation of it all Enter Dr Monica R Butler

When asked what first stirred her heart to establish the GMHOF, Dr. Butler took me back to her exposure during a television taping in 1982 when her mother sang with the famous O'Neal Twins and the Interfaith Choir. The obvious attraction was the documentary, “Say Amen, Somebody”, but she was instead enamored by the behind-the-scenes production of it all. This sparked her journey as a television and film producer which landed her shows like Bobby Jones Gospel, Jurassic World, The Butler, John Wick, Jack Reacher and others She became an advocate for media productions and helped to pass The Film Tax Credit in Missouri.

As time passed, Dr. Butler realized that the 1982 production merely scratched the surface of our rich Gospel heritage, and she wanted to produce part two. She was not met with a green light from producers, but, her faith and tenacity fueled her to move forward.

In the midst of her determination to bring exposure to the people who fuel our souls through Gospel music, she realized the lack of a resourceful place to glean our stories, our history and our people who sang and preached and publicized the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Believing that she ‘can do all things through Christ who strengthens her’, Dr. Monica R. Butler set out to accomplish this mission: “The Gospel Music Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich legacy of gospel music while inspiring future generations. Through education centers, performance halls, and historical exhibits, GMHOF honors the genre's pioneers and fosters the development of emerging talents Its comprehensive approach includes state-of-the-art recording studios, wellness initiatives, and community-focused spaces, making it a cultural cornerstone for gospel music's past, present, and future”. Remarkable!!

Dr. Butler said, “six or seven years ago I put a little snowball at the top of the hill and just started rolling it down and it has snowballed into something so big and so great”. She described this edifice that is built to house His-story as something that is long overdue “That passion in me is where it all came from and here we are today, opening up chapters

across the country” The London UK chapter of The GMHOF opened in October and her excitement about that accomplishment illuminated our conversation. Dr. Monica R. Butler exemplified the theme for this month’s issue, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive it” (Mt. 21:22).

Currently, there is a tangible place, envisioned by Dr. Butler, to preserve the legacy of the likes of Thomas A Dorsey, the pioneering composer, pianist and singer who pinned “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” following the tragic loss of his wife and daughter The three remarkable Barrett Sisters can be remembered for their career which spanned over 40 years with albums including “Jesus Loves Me”, “I’ll Fly Away” and “What A Wonderful World”, Willie Mae Ford Smith, Zella Jackson Price, The O’Neal Twins (Edgar and Edward) and so many others whose work left an indelible mark.

The Board has certain guidelines when considering inductees She said, “My mission is to also recognize those who work behind the scenes as I did for years producing Bobby Jones Gospel and working with the Gospel Celebration. I made sure before someone went on stage, it was in order!” She expressed how much of a joy it is to recognize the unrecognized jewels like Al Walsh who promoted gospel with gospel concerts across the country, our publisher of Gospel International Magazine, Dr. Joyce Logan who has been revolutionary since 1993, and so many others

We asked Dr. Butler, what defines an artist as worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame? Is it gifts and talents, influence, longevity or something deeper? She said, “It's a little bit of all of that I'm inducting people like Jakalyn Carr, often called little Shirley Ceasar She is one of the youngest to be inducted into the Hall of Fame Then of course, there are those who have paved the way. I am still recognizing people who have been in the business over 30-40 years and are still moving and shaking.” Then there are the soldiers who have gone home to be with the Lord like the Reverand James Cleveland who are worthy of honor.

We asked about the most challenging moments getting the GMHOF off the ground and Dr. Butler shared how it's always challenging financially because of her desire to do so much She said, “I am admonishing people to give whatever they can to the GMHOF so we can continue to not only preserve our history and create a platform, but that it can be something that is stateof-the-art where the younger generations can have interactive experiences and sit next to Willie Mae Ford Smith or Mahalia Jackson and actually feel their presence”. That is vision and for lack of it, the people perish!

Dr Butler extended this invitation, “This year's Induction Ceremony is a 2-day event; the Expo Concert and the Induction Ceremony that will be held in St Louis, Missouri September 5 and 6th. Everyone is invited to this unique weekend which will include a live recording to be nationally televised. Go to mogospel.com to follow us, and by all means, support us”. th

PRAYER IS PARAMOUNT!

This months theme could possibly be the most important ingredient in a believer’s walk! Outside of Faith, PRAYER IS PARAMOUNT! My journey has always been draped in prayer. Doing music without it just didn’t feel right I didn’t feel empowered for my assignment without communication / time with the Lord!

Fellowship with the father, the one who gave me the gift of song has been the reason for any level of success I have experienced! Many Psalms are filled with prayer that were songs, expressing various emotions and needs to God. Some examples include Psalm 86, which is a heartfelt plea for God's mercy and protection, and Psalm 119:33-40, which focuses on seeking understanding and guidance in God's law Psalm 91 is also often considered a powerful prayer, invoking God's protection and trust

David the anointed musician often sat alone with his instrument (harp) and sang prayers to God! An audience of ONE! This wasn’t an act but his lifestyle! He knew the power of prayer & his connection to the source of all things.

I believe there are many songs that were never documented that were prayers being sung in an organic authentic moment by just every day believers who were just expressing their heartfelt feelings

Yes, using songs as a form of prayer can be a powerful and meaningful practice. Songs, especially those expressing faith or devotion, can help to connect with God, deepen spiritual awareness, and offer a unique way to express emotions and needs. My former pastor who started a weekly 4am prayer service always requested that there be music that undergirds the 4am prayer gathering And most times in the middle of prayer, a song was birthed

Percy Bady

Music is often used to express love for God and connect with His presence Many find that certain music helps them to reflect on their feelings or experiences, leading to deeper spiritual insights. Today we use music as a way to bring prayer into our everyday tasks, such as while working or commuting, driving or even exercising. Mary Davis, the author of Every Day Spirit: A Daybook of Wisdom, Joy and Peace states that : “Music is the prayer the heart sings.”

The phrase "Music is the prayer the heart sings" suggests that music is a powerful and heartfelt form of spiritual expression, a way of connecting with something greater than oneself through the language of the soul. It implies that music, especially when sung from the heart, can be a form of worship or prayer, offering solace, comfort, and connection to God our father!

So the next time you find yourself singing your prayer unexpectedly, please know that it is just as powerful as you setting up a quiet space & time to speak those same words Continue to sing what’s in your heart & watch your circumstances change…If not watch God change you to deal with your circumstance. Prayer Changes Things & Us!

Praying For Us All, D

A Pastor’s Perspective

Building Prayer In Your Life

One would think that talking to God and spending time with God through prayer is a daily part of every Christian's life but I have learned not necessarily so. It amazes me how even those that have been long time members of a Church, sit under great leadership with OUTSTANDING preaching and teaching Ministries, have professed that they are spiritual and have always believed in God's divine power and that God exist but will say I don't know how to pray. It takes time to develop a prayer life. You grow in prayer just like you grow and mature in all areas of your life. Most Prayer Warriors, Intercessors and people that have prayer regimens did not become strong in prayer because that's their gift or natural ability, it's because life taught them the necessity of spending time with God through prayer and meditation They also saw the benefits of a strong prayer life My strength, direction, my fellowship comes through private time spent with God.

My private consecration determines my public power. There are certain things I can only receive from God when I spend some alone time with Him in prayer. People pray out of their experiences to the God they have come to know. You have to come to know God for yourself Everybody has their own journey

As your relationship with God through Jesus Christ deepens and you learn more about Him, your prayer life will improve. Without knowing God or His word, you may struggle with faith in your prayers. Rather than just hoping God hears and answers, expect His will to prevail Also, understand that prayers might not always be answered as you desire, which is a sign of growing maturity.

Learn to pray the solution and not the problem. Learn to pray scripture the bible does tell us, He watches over his word to perform it. Learn to be specific with God don't generalize everything Be honest with God when you pray Confess your shortcomings and ask for forgiveness You can't just pray over wrongdoing.

Learn also to spend quality time with God without asking Him for anything. Don't you dislike it when you only hear from someone when they are in trouble, need or want something. Be quiet and let God talk to you.

God understands you in whatever native language you speak You don't have to be a master of words just be sincere. You can bow, lay prostate, get on your knees, stand, do it silently whatever you choose and the increments of time may be five minutes but before you know it you will have increased from five to ten from minutes to an hour, to a natural necessary daily regimen within your Christian walk.

Fathers Day:

Marks of a Mentally Healthy Father

As we celebrate Father’s Day, it’s essential to reflect on what it means to be a mentally healthy father The journey of fatherhood is filled with emotional challenges and societal pressures that can significantly impact mental wellness. Understanding the signs of mental health and the benchmarks fathers can strive for is crucial for fostering a supportive environment for both themselves and their families.

Emotional and Mental Challenges of Fatherhood

Fatherhood often comes with high expectations Fathers may feel pressure to be providers, protectors, and role models. These responsibilities can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress, and inadequacy when they believe they are falling short. Common challenges include:

Work-Life Balance: Juggling career demands with family time can create significant stress.

Fear of Failure: Many fathers worry about not meeting their children’s needs or societal expectations

Isolation: The stigma surrounding men’s mental health can make fathers hesitant to seek support, leading to feelings of loneliness.

A Story of Growth: John’s Journey

Meet John, a dedicated father of three. On the surface, he seems to have it all: a stable job, a loving family, and a comfortable home However, beneath this facade, John struggles with anxiety and feelings of inadequacy The pressure to provide and be a perfect role model weighs heavily on him.

For years, John masked his struggles, believing that vulnerability was a sign of weakness. He often found himself feeling stressed and overwhelmed, but he rarely shared these feelings with anyone, fearing judgment. It wasn’t until he reached a breaking point an anxiety attack during a family event that he realized he needed to make a change

Determined to improve his mental wellness, John sought counseling. Through therapy, he learned valuable coping strategies and began to communicate more openly with his family. He started practicing mindfulness and dedicated time each day to self-care, such as exercising and journaling. As he worked on his mental health, John noticed a positive shift not only in his wellbeing but also in his relationships with his children. They began to see him as a supportive figure, someone who understood their struggles

Common Mistakes

In the pursuit of being a strong father, many men overlook their mental and emotional wellness. Common mistakes include:

Neglecting Self-Care: Fathers may prioritize their family's needs over their own, ignoring signs of burnout or stress.

Avoiding Vulnerability: The belief that showing emotion is a sign of weakness can prevent fathers from expressing their feelings or seeking help.

Failing to Communicate: Not discussing feelings or challenges can lead to misunderstandings and emotional distance within the family.

Signs of a Mentally Well Father

Recognizing the marks of mental wellness can provide benchmarks for fathers to aim for. Here are some signs of a mentally healthy father:

Questions for Reflection: Are You a Mentally Healthy Father?

To help fathers gauge their mental wellness, consider the following questions:

1.Emotional Awareness: Are you able to acknowledge your feelings and understand that it’s okay to express them?

2.Open Communication: Do you talk openly with your family about your feelings and encourage them to share theirs?

3 Healthy Boundaries: Do you know your limits and prioritize self-care, ensuring you take time for yourself?

4.Support-Seeking Behavior: Are you willing to seek help from friends, family, or professionals when needed?

5.Positive Coping Strategies: Do you engage in activities that promote mental wellness, such as exercise, hobbies, or mindfulness practices?

6 Role Modeling: Are you demonstrating emotional intelligence to your children, teaching them the importance of mental health?

Encouragement for Fathers

This Father’s Day, let’s encourage fathers to prioritize their mental and emotional health. By recognizing the challenges and striving for the signs of mental wellness, fathers can create a healthier family environment. The journey towards mental wellness is ongoing and requires commitment. Fathers should remember that seeking help and being emotionally aware is a strength, not a weakness

As we honor fathers today, let’s support them in their quest for mental health Together, we can break the stigma and promote a culture where emotional intelligence and mental well-being are valued, ensuring that fathers can thrive in their roles.

The Spiritual and Practical Benefits of House Plants

I have a strong interest and love for plants Due to the absence of our cooking section with Tammy Taylor this month, I decided to fill the void. I conducted research to explore if there may be a spiritual reason for my connection to plants. What I discovered was quite enlightening, practically and spiritually, and it was fun. Tammy will be back next month with a scrumptious meal and recipe for you.

Genesis 2:15

In our increasingly busy and digital lives, the quiet presence of a houseplant might seem small but it holds powerful spiritual and practical significance. Plants remind us of God’s beautiful creation, His provision, and His desire for us to live in harmony with the world He made. Whether it’s a peace lily by the window or a kitchen herb garden, greenery in our homes reflects both the simplicity and sacredness of life

1. A Breath of Fresh Air

Naturally “They are life to those who find them and health to one ’ s whole body”

Proverbs 4:22

Many plants serve as natural air purifiers, filtering toxins and releasing fresh oxygen into our living spaces Species like the spider plant, snake plant, and aloe vera improve the air quality— reminding us that God's creation is not only beautiful, but healing. A home filled with plants becomes a healthier, more life-giving environment.

2. God's Peace in Green Spaces

“He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul ”

Psalm 23:2–3a

Just as Scripture speaks of green pastures as places of rest and restoration, plants in our homes bring peace. Studies show they reduce stress, calm the mind, and lift our spirits—qualities we desperately need in today’s fast-paced world. A plant-filled space can become a sanctuary where God’s peace dwells

3. Beauty That Reflects the Creator

“God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.”

Genesis 1:31

From the intricate veins of a leaf to the vibrant color of a flower, each plant is a masterpiece of divine design. Incorporating plants into our homes honors the beauty of God's creation and adds a sense of awe and reverence to everyday life. It reminds us that God is the ultimate artist

4 Growth, Patience, and Stewardship

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up ”

Galatians 6:9

Caring for a plant cultivates patience, discipline, and attentiveness key virtues in the Christian walk Every time we water a plant or trim its leaves; we are reminded of the call to stewardship found in Genesis Growth may be slow, but it is steady and deeply rewarding.

5. A Holistic Approach to Health

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?” 1

Corinthians 6:19

Plants promote physical well-being by increasing indoor humidity, reducing allergens, and easing respiratory issues Keeping our bodies healthy is a way of honoring the temple of the Holy Spirit In a sense, plants help us care for both our physical and spiritual environments

6. Sacred Spaces in Ordinary Places

“Be still, and know that I am God ”

Psalm 46:10

Whether it’s a prayer nook adorned with greenery or a kitchen windowsill blooming with basil, plants transform ordinary spaces into sacred ones Their presence reminds us to pause, reflect, and draw near to God even in the midst of daily life.

7. Teaching the Next Generation

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it ”

Proverbs 22:6

Gardening with children offers an opportunity to teach faith through creation. Watching a seed grow into a plant mirrors the way faith takes root and blossoms in young hearts. It’s a living lesson in God’s provision, timing, and grace.

Faith That Flourishes

Bringing plants into your home isn’t just about style it’s about reflecting God’s presence and peace Each leaf and bloom points us back to the Creator who makes all things grow As you care for these gifts of creation, may they draw you closer to the One who cares for you

"Dear God, on this Father's Day, we thank you for the fathers in our lives. For those who have guided us, taught us, and loved us, we offer our sincere gratitude. For those who are fathers, we pray that you grant them strength, wisdom, and patience as they guide their children and families. We ask for your blessings on all fathers, young and old, especially those who are struggling or facing difficult times. May they know your love and support, and may they be filled with peace and joy. In Jesus' name, Amen

Did You Pray About the People who are Sitting on the Front Row of Your Life!?

When it comes to the people in our lives, they all fit into various categories. From family to friends, acquaintances to convenience, we compartmentalize them into specific segments of our lives.

However, the question I pose to you today is: where do the people in your life fit into your life?

Consider the people you spend the most time with versus those you truly want to spend time with. Depending on your stage in life, this can be an easy or relatively challenging question to answer.

We often associate with people for various reasons loyalty, genuine affection, positive energy, financial generosity, convenience, accessibility, knowledge, trustworthiness, purposefulness, helpfulness, and familiarity For some of us, many of these reasons resonate deeply.

I recall when I was sixteen years old, after my mother passed away, my brother eloped, my sisters moved to New York, and my father asked me, “So what are you going to do?” This was when I began to see the world differently. For the first time, I paid attention to my surroundings and the people around me, realizing that making the right decisions was crucial as I subconsciously determined my life's trajectory.

I had to dig deep and pray about the people entering my life, assessing if they were a good fit from high school to college days to my daily walk. In doing so, I realized that not everyone I had given space to deserved to be there. It wasn’t them; it was me. I was growing and paying attention to what God was instructing me to do with my life As I focused on my life's calling, I recognized that some people around me were not the ones I needed

At some point, you should seek positive, uplifting, encouraging, and trustworthy vibes from people who will have your back and whom you can trust with your heart and mind. Your inner circle should consist of individuals who will protect your name even when you are not present, who you can call in the middle of the night and who will respond with concern and readiness to help, not with questions about the time You should feel comfortable praying with them

If you are spending time with people you have settled for, that was a choice you made. Often, we do this when the people we truly want to spend time with are occupied elsewhere Let them do what they prefer Trying to force, bait, or coerce someone into spending time with you is never worth the energy.

Remember, consistent quality time with anyone can significantly influence your behaviors, attitudes, and overall life. From their values, emotions, body language, speech patterns, attitudes, beliefs, decision-making, lifestyle choices, work ethics, financial habits, conflict resolutions, career choices, health practices, fashion sense, entertainment preferences, goal settings, to their approach to relationships and much more So, pay attention to the people in your life because they are either enhancing your life or detracting from it.

Anyone you allow in the front row of your life should be someone who wants to be there and whom you have invited. This is why it is essential to pray about the people you invite into your life. They will either bring joy or consistently stress you out because they are meant to be in someone else’s space

Choose wisely and let God guide you Life is too short to spend quality time with the wrong people.

“In All Your Getting, Get an Understanding: A Biblical Approach to Understanding Business Taxes”

Business owners operating in the U.S. are responsible for overseeing various functions, including filing and paying different types of taxes. These can vary depending on the type of entity and business structure, location, and industry In Proverbs 4:7, the word of God tells us that “Wisdom is the principal thing, and in all thy getting, get an understanding”. Not only is this true concerning business taxes but filing and paying taxes are also a regulatory requirement for for-profit businesses Getting an understanding of business taxes will help business owners manage cash and stay in compliance

Following is a breakdown of different types of taxes business owners should be aware of to stay in compliance with federal, state and local government agencies.

1. Federal Taxes

Federal taxes mainly consist of income, self-employment, and payroll tax, described in more detail below

a. Income Tax

Income tax is paid on business profits from sole proprietors, partnerships, S corporations, and shareholders. Depending on the structure, they’re typically paid monthly, quarterly, or annually, often through estimated tax payments.

b. Self-Employment Tax

Self-employment tax is made up of Social Security and Medicare tax. It is paid to the federal government by sole proprietors, partners, and members of an LLC Self-employment is often paid quarterly.

c. Payroll Taxes

Payroll taxes are paid by companies that have hired employees. The employer pays their share of Social Security and Medicare taxes. FUTA, short for the Federal Unemployment Tax Act, requires employers to pay unemployment tax

Employers are also responsible for withholding federal payroll tax from employees’ wages and paying the tax to the federal government on their behalf. These payments are made at federal depositories, known to most as a bank.

2. State Taxes

State taxes vary based on the state. Some do not require personal income taxes, such as Texas, Nevada, and Florida, for example.

a. State Income Tax

State income tax is a tax on personal income and on profits generated from businesses, depending on the entity structure Some state income taxes are paid quarterly, whereas others are paid annually

b. State Self-Employment or Business Tax

Some states (such as Texas or Washington have what’s referred to as a gross receipts tax or a franchise tax instead of or in some cases, in addition to income tax.

c. State Payroll Taxes

Businesses that have hired employees must pay state unemployment insurance (SUI) State disability insurance is also required in certain states, like California, for example

3. Local Taxes

Local taxes normally apply to taxes on the city or county level and consist of business licenses, occupational taxes, and property taxes. Some local income taxes exist in some cities, such as New York City and Philadelphia.

4 Sales Tax

If your business sells taxable goods or services, you are required to comply with your local government by collecting taxes from your customers and forwarding them to the state. Sales taxes are paid monthly, quarterly, or annually, depending on the volume of revenue generated.

5. Excise Taxes

Businesses that sell specific products, such as fuel or tires, must pay excise taxes, which can be required on the federal and/or the state-level

6. Business Property Tax

Business owners who own real estate or other property used in their business such as machinery, furniture, or personal property such as certain pieces of equipment, and vehicles. In most cases, business property tax is paid to the local tax assessor’s office on the county level.

7. Capital Gains Tax

Capital Gains Tax is incurred when a business sales business assets, investments, and other property. Short-term gains are generated from the sales of assets held for one year or less and are typically taxed at the individual’s regular tax rate.. Long-term gains are generated from the sale of assets held for one year or more, and generally taxed between 15% - 20%

Conclusion

Based on the information above, there are a wide array of tax responsibilities that business owners are faced with.

Depending on your industry and where you operate your business, your tax requirements may differ from other state’s requirements Additionally, some taxes are required for foreign entities that are incorporated in one state but operate in another. As it says in the word of God, it is wise to seek counsel. So, seeking out a CPA or tax advisor to help you understand all of your tax filing requirements is wise.
