This month we celebrate Easter that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolizing a victory over death and sin and providing hope for eternal life. The resurrection is considered a cornerstone of Christian faith, without which it would be incomplete.

Where did the eggs come from? Easter eggs probably originated from pagan spring festivals celebrating new life and rebirth.

Christians later adopted the tradition, seeing the egg as a symbol of Jesus' resurrection and the empty tomb. Eggs have long symbolized fertility and new beginnings in various cultures.

With the spread of Christianity, the use of eggs was incorporated into Easter celebrations, marking Jesus' resurrection. During Lent, Christians traditionally fasted from eggs, making them a special treat on Easter Sunday.

The tradition of decorating eggs started from saving eggs during Holy Week and marking them as "Holy Week" eggs, which were not to be eaten. Today, Easter eggs symbolize the holiday, with activities like egg hunts and egg rolling enjoyed by many.

The tradition of chocolate Easter eggs dates back to the 19th century, when chocolatiers began producing chocolate molds in the shape of eggs. This practice reinforced the association of the egg as a symbol of Easter.

In the meantime as we move towards April 20, Easter, we pray that your days are filled with joy and laughter and a peace that surpasses all of your understanding.

Dr. Boise Kimber recently elected as the 19th president of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., is a distinguished pastor, community leader, and advocate for social justice and economic empowerment. Throughout his impactful career, Dr. Kimber has seamlessly blended faith and activism, addressing society’s most pressing issues with conviction and purpose.

With a ministry focused on uplifting marginalized communities, Dr. Kimber has devoted his life to guiding his congregation through spiritual, social, and economic challenges. Prior to his accepting the presidency of the National Baptist Convention USA Dr. Kimber starting in 1999 as the Executive Secretary, for the Board of Directors of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., His responsibilities were to ensure accurate and sufficient documentation to meet legal and organizational requirements; advise and counsel committee heads and senior leaders on business affairs and organizational matters; record and maintain minutes of all board meetings, ensuring accuracy and accessibility; propose policies and practices to enhance organizational governance and efficiency; submit comprehensive annual reports to the Board of Directors; maintain detailed membership records for the convention, encompassing hundreds of thousands of members; fulfill various additional responsibilities as assigned by the National Baptist Convention President and perform administrative tasks delegated by the Board of Directors to support the organization's mission and objectives.

He Served as Custodian of Records and President Emeritus of the Christian Leadership School, The Boise Kimber Christian Leadership School, within the National Baptist Convention - State of Connecticut Missionary Baptist Convention starting in 2015; Providing spiritual support and guidance to young adults, fostering their growth in Christian leadership. Developed and delivering curriculum instruction leading to certification in areas such as evangelism, missions and society, and global ministries for peace, justice, and tranquility. He instructed students in early Christianity, biblical studies, Baptist polity, Old Testament, and New Testament teachings.

New Leadership For Such A Time As This

By Susie Jones An Interview with Dr. Boise Kimber, President The National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc It is evident that a great paradigm shift has taken place in our country especially in regards to leadership. There are groundbreaking models that are rising up and look nothing like what we are accustomed to seeing.

I recently had the opportunity to interview Rev. Dr. Boise Kimber, the newly elected President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc, the largest Black Protestant Denomination in the United States. The convention has an estimated membership of over 3.5 million.

Since his installment in January he is already making historical moves within the Convention; such as revitalizing old and outdated standards, embracing a new generation with new ideas, as well as addressing the current social injustices that are affecting our African American Communities. These are just a few questions I was able to ask and Dr. Kimber was gracious enough to respond.

GI - Dr. Kimber, what is the Mission and Vision of the NBCUSA under your leadership?

Kimber - My vision is to carry out Mission, Evangelism, Christian Education, and Social Justice. That's what our Forefathers and Mothers built this Convention on.

GI - How will the NBCUSA play a pivotal role for Civil Rights and Social Justice in the 21st Century, with this current climate of bigotry in our nation?

Kimber - I have been a Community Activist. I did my Doctor of Ministry on Social Justice Conscious in my local congregation. I've had all of the Civil Rights Leaders except Dr. Martin Luther King to speak at my church, and so I bring that experience to the NBCUSA. You do know that there was a split in the NBCUSA when Dr. Joseph Jackson was President, and it was because under his leadership NBC did not want to take a stand on the issue of Social Justice in 1960's. Dr. Gardner Taylor and Dr. Martin L. King took a stand on what was happening in our country, and they left the NBC.

I have initiated a Social Justice Commission for the NBCUSA, I’ve put Christopher Bullock out of New Caanan, Delaware as the Chairperson over it. We've set up five regional areas, each with a director and team that will take oversight and address issues of injustices toward our people. I've been dealing with D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion). We named Dr. Willie Wilson out of Chicago the Director of Economic Development and Corporate Sponsorship.

We've had meetings with Walmart, McDonald's, American Airlines, and GMAC to talk about why they chose to stop DEI. There are other groups we will be talking to. They have agreed to get together with their people and our people where we come to the table first and see what kind of terms we can work out before straight to boycotting and marching.

GI - How do you see women moving in the areas of leadership in the NBCUSA that are usually dominated by men?

Kimber - Women are breaking the glass ceiling at NBCUSA. Under my leadership there have been a lot of historical appointments where women have been concerned. This is the first time in NBCUSA where a woman has been appointed Assistant General Secretary , a woman appointed to the Executive Board, six women now sit on the of Board of Directors , women have been named to the Ministers Division, there are women Moderators now, and there is a new Division called the Young Prophets where women are included lead by Frank Harris out in Detroit, MI. I will ensure that women are represented in all areas of NBCUSA. I did a Thesis at Yale Divinity School entitled "A Critical Analysis of Black Women In Ministry In The Black Church. We're moving in a new direction when it comes to women. We need them. I'm glad that the lord has led me to appoint these women in the NBCUSA. GI - Finally why should a local church consider becoming a part of the NBCUSA? Kimber - when I ran for President of NBCUSA it was to bring a greater cohesiveness to the local black church. I want the Convention to meet the needs of the local church, and one way is through Christian Education. We need training. Being connected to NBCUSA allows you to connect, network, get strengthened and blessed. It's a new season, there's is room for all, the young and the old. The door is open. Come to the table, it's too big for just one or two.

Senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago is a preacher, poet, activist, author and filmmaker with an eye toward justice and equality, as evidenced through the gospel of Jesus Christ. He founded The Unashamed Media Group, a justice centered, faith-based agency committed to producing and curating stories to inspire the heart and challenge the mind. His most recent book is Blue Note Preaching in a Post-Soul World: Finding Hope in an Age of Despair (2015). In October 2020, Dr. Moss created Otis’ Dream, a short film about his grandfather's unsuccessful attempt to vote in 1946.

Dr. Moss preaches a theology of liberation rooted in a Black Spirituality of love and justice. His passion for African American culture and history combined with a deep appreciation for jazz and hip hop, have culminated in a unique message of hope and healing through a jazz narrative on American democracy. Most recently his messages have been featured on the Meditative Stories Podcast as well as On Being with Krista Tippett. The COVID 19 pandemic provided a new opportunity to convey scriptural messages through a cinematic and sermonic lens. The Unashamed Media Group has produced 5 short films/sermons using cinematic liturgy in 2020.

Dr. Moss is ordained in the Progressive National Baptist Convention and the United Church of Christ. Dr. Moss was identified by the Baylor University George W. Truett Theological Seminary as one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English language in 2018. He is married to Monica Brown Moss and they are the grateful parents of the amazing team of MK and Eli.

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian.

Dr. Steven Harris hails from Cleveland, Ohio. He is affectionately known as Bro. Steve to the entertainment world and is now celebrating over 35 years in the entertainment and broadcast industry.

Steve knows what it means to deal with challenges. He spent the early days of his life in an isolette; a clear plastic enclosed crib that maintains a warm environment for a new baby and isolates him or her from germs. He was known as a blue baby; he had breathing problems and seizures, he spent half his life in a wheelchair, he had speech and speaking issues, but while lying in his hospital bed as a child God gave Steve the “Gift of Gab” and creativity for media.

After graduating as the top African American from Kent State University in the School of Broadcasting on his graduation day Steve later moved to Hollywood, California where he resides now working as a television producer, radio personality and media professional and consultant.

His work has also been seen on the big screen for the movie industry on Fox, Disney, CBS, ABC, NBC and various cable networks as well. Steve has authored 5 books and has created and produced over 7,352 radio, tv, and multi-media projects. He is a 2-time Gospel Announcer of the Year Award Winner and a member of the Broadcasters Hall of Fame as the youngest inductee in history. He co-created AIM TV, AIM Radio, AIM Live and several programs and events throughout the Church of God in Christ. Most of all he loves the Lord in all that he says and does and focuses his time on his charity work each week feeding needy family in his community. He is a faithful 32-year member of West Angeles Church of God in Christ where he loves to worship and serve. He is married to his life’s heart desire Lady Shamelle Harris. They are the parents of a daughter, Yvonne Marie.

A Spiritual Connection With ‘The Way’ By: Janette Auguar While I normally make “A Spiritual Connection” with an individual, God is using who exemplifies the theme of the month [Leadership] This month I will sit with my own experience.

It happens to be right on the heels of the completion of my leadership class at The Way World Outreach Church under the leadership of Pastor Marco and Liza Garcia. Besides reminding you that Jesus is “The Way”, I will introduce you to one of the fastest growing Churches in the world with campuses in San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Pomona and Moreno Valley, California as well as Phoenix, Arizona, Kenya and Uganda, Africa and Tijuana, Mexico. The reason it is one of the fastest growing Churches is because of leadership, the theme for this month’s issue.

In all of my years and with all of my experiences, I have never seen anything like it!

I learned that twenty years ago, Pastor Marco, as he is affectionately known, left Corporate America to answer God’s call to Pastor and he chose one of the most poverty-stricken counties in the world, San Bernardino, California. He didn’t start his ministry in a building, he started by knocking on doors to find out the needs of the community and then he met those needs. From the elderly woman who needed her grass cut, awning painted, and house cleaned; to the women with a house full of children who needed a refrigerator instead of the ice chest that they got by with, while their husbands were incarcerated; to the broken family whose teen had committed suicide days prior as they feared the fate of the other friends who made a pact to do the same, Pastor Marco’s timely response to God’s call met needs and saved lives … then and now. You never know who is behind the door without a knock. That was twenty years ago but still today, teams of people in the “Adopt A Block” ministry uncover thirsty souls behind doors to show them “The Way”’.

Here is a ministry that is intentionally and strategically and systematically answering the call of the great commission by making disciples who make disciples; making followers of Jesus Christ who make other followers of Jesus Christ. THAT is a leader! Matthew 28:19 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”. So many of us haven’t gone much further than to Church to hear a sermon and unfortunately, we haven’t been led through twenty weeks of “Holy Warriors” classes to help us recognize, navigate and shed the sins and bondages in which we were born and shaped and steeped in.

We are likely not a part of a small discipleship group meeting weekly being strengthened and garnering what it takes to lead a group of our own nor are we engaged with a Daily Growth Book that puts the entire congregation on one accord.

We are supposed to be led to do 2 Timothy 2:2 which says, “you have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others”. While we all must take responsibility for our own growth and development, ‘ain’t’ nothing like a great leader who God would use to help us make it in and bring others with us. I’ve heard it said, there is nothing like a leader whose “audio lines up with their video, who isn’t saying one thing and doing another”, who embraces preaching beyond a profession and who is genuinely concerned about the souls of men … all men.

Character traits of a Godly Leader from my Holy Warriors 4 class at The Way World Outreach.

1. Integrity: Proverbs 4:25 Let your eyes look directly ahead toward the path of moral courage and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you toward the path of integrity.

2. Perseverance: 2 Corinthians 4:16 That is why we never give up.

3. Hard Work: Proverbs 12:24 Work hard and become a leader, be lazy and become a slave 4. Self-Control: Proverbs 25:28 Like a city that is broken down and without walls leaving it unprotected is a man who has no self-control over his spirit and sets himself up for trouble 5. Being Correctable: Psalms14:15 Let the righteous (thoughtfully) strike (correct) me - it is a kindness (done to encourage my spiritual maturity) it is (the choices anointing) oil on my head; let my head not refuse (to accept and acknowledge and learn from) it. Proverbs 12:1 says anyone who loves learning knowledge accepts loves corrections instruction discipline but a person who hates being corrected is stupid 6. Unoffendable: Mark 11:25 Whenever you stand praying if you have anything against anyone forgive him drop the issue let it go so that your father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings against him and others 7. Responsible: Luke 12:42 And the Lord replied, a faithful sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them.

Be not dismayed if you recognize traits, you have utterly failed to demonstrate because of Romans 8:1, “Therefore, there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ”. Let’s just get it right this time. Finally, great leaders, I learned we should: “Study the Word Continually” “Obey the Word Completely” “Teach the Word Consistently” I look forward to sharing more about what God is doing through this abundantly blessed ministry and its leader, Pastor Marco Garcia, as these few words merely scratch the surface.

Souls are at stake leaders, for eternity. Let us all repent and … stop playing!

by Percy Bady This month’s subject is a very easy one to talk about as I’m just coming out of a conference that dealt with leadership. I believe that as a kingdom citizen, one who’s been placed here to be a general inside the music industry it’s important to understand leadership. My Apostle always says “nothing gets done without leadership and nothing stays done without management” - Dr. Dana Carson In the climate that we’re in now leadership has been called into question. Why, you ask?

Because there are so many leaders who are leading people in directions that are not beneficial, nor have any lasting eternity attached to it. My column title is always music & the kingdom, so I want to stay true to what that is and talk about the leaders who have come before me and laid the path and foundation as leaders in gospel music. These leaders basically set the tone and led by example and showed us how it should be done.

Edwin Hawkins

One leader that I must mention is Andrae Crouch. Andrae‘s music always lead you or pointed you to Jesus. He knew as a leader that there were many who were following him because of his unique but simple way of conveying the gospel.

Another leader or leaders who I must mention is Edwin and Walter Hawkins. I was first introduced to Edwin Hawkins through probably one of the most popular gospel songs ever written. That song is Oh Happy Day. See Edwin and Walter were different in that their style of music wasn’t the norm, so they led a movement much like Andre that spoke to not just the church but outside the church as well. Hence contemporary gospel music.

I’ve come to understand that as a leader, one of the biggest myths ever spoken is the myth of being a born leader. And that’s not the truth! Leaders are not born.! Leaders are made. Let me repeat. Leaders are not born., they are made. What does it mean to lead? It means: to guide someone or something along a way. You see as music ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ we have a responsibility to lead people. To lead them to the only hope we have. We were not called to just become Christians and then the assignment ends there.

Matthew 28:19–20 contains what has come to be called the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

I hear some of you saying, but I’m not a preacher, but I beg to differ you are a preacher, but you don’t use a pulpit! You use the gift of song; the gift of music. We lead people to the most important destination they will ever experience in this life and after. That’s why our songs must be honest & convicting at the same time. I learned to lead through becoming a great follower.

The person you follow should be leading you in ways of righteousness in the fruits of the spirit.

What makes a good leader? I happen to believe that what makes a good leader is one who has influence; is responsible and accountable. In this gospel music industry that we serve, one must consider “are my actions leading people in the right direction?. Are my songs encouraging people toward righteousness and good works?

See, being a good leader requires the ability to look at oneself objectively… to look at your actions, motives! Because if it’s not tied to really pointing people in the right direction, if it’s not tied to something that adds value to others or something that’s bigger than you then it’s selfish at this core. Being a leader requires you to be unselfish. It also requires you to look for the good in the bad, the beauty in the ugly and the blessing in the burden. Many think that leading is a glamorous position, but I beg to differ. Being a leader, sometimes means you’ll be alone…not because you want to, but because you must. Being a leader also means being misunderstood at times.

If you have been called to lead in this season, please know that we are held at a different standard. Many watch us, they mimic us, they tell others about us. We must ask what are we showing them? Where are we leading them? So, whether you are a musician, a songwriter, vocalist or choir director it doesn’t matter. You must understand that you are a leader, and it is important that you are leading people towards eternity. So, in our lyrics, music and song we should be leading the way towards heaven. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Through a real-life scenario involving Pastor John and his staff, we illustrate how a lack of emotional awareness can stifle creativity and morale. The Meeting Scenario In a local church office, a staff of seven gathered for their weekly planning meeting. Pastor John, known for his compelling preaching and charismatic presence, took his usual seat at the head of the table. However, despite his strengths, Pastor John's emotional intelligence left much to be desired.

As the meeting began, Carl, the worship leader, proposed incorporating a “Welcome Song” into the service. Before he could finish, Pastor John interrupted with a dismissive chuckle, saying, “Oh come on, we’re not Second Baptist- it doesn’t take all that!” The room fell silent, and Carl's enthusiasm deflated.

Understanding IQ vs. EQ To navigate the complexities of modern leadership, especially for Christian leaders, it's essential to understand the distinctions between IQ (Intelligence Quotient) and EQ (Emotional Intelligence): IQ measures cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills, which are traditionally valued in professional settings.

EQ refers to the ability to recognize, understand, and manage our emotions and those of others.

High EQ includes empathy, effective communication, and social skills crucial for healthy relationships and teamwork.

Leaders with high emotional intelligence are better equipped to handle stress, resolve conflicts, and create a positive workplace culture.

The Importance of Emotionally Intelligent Leadership In an era of high economic uncertainty, increased stress, and low morale, leaders must embody both spiritual and emotional intelligence. Conclusion So here is some homework: Consider setting one personal goal to improve your emotional intelligence this month. Ask God to guide you in your leadership journey, seeking His wisdom and the Holy Spirit’s enablement to effect positive change in your life and organization.

In a world that often overlooks the importance of emotional well-being, Christian leaders have a unique opportunity to lead with love, compassion, and understanding. By prioritizing emotional intelligence, we can create workplaces that uplift individuals and honor God.

Fajitas and Crab Boil During the pandemic, many people found themselves navigating uncharted territory, particularly when it came to cooking and dining at home. While some relied on takeout meals that only needed reheating, others embraced the opportunity to refine their culinary skills. I was among those who chose to cook at home, determined not to order from restaurants.

However, I also wanted to avoid falling into a repetitive routine of preparing the same dishes.

To keep things exciting, I explored new recipes, including those I would typically enjoy at a restaurant. Two standout dishes I mastered were crab boil and chicken fajitas. Both recipes are straightforward once the meal prep is complete. Let’s dive into the crab boil first!

Crab Boil Ingredients: Crab legs Corn Shrimp Sausage (Andouille or turkey smoked) Potatoes Broccoli To start, you'll need a large pot. Fill it about two-thirds full with water, then season the water with Old Bay seasoning, seafood seasoning, onion powder, garlic, and any spices to suit your taste. Don’t forget to add a stick of butter for richness!

Set a timer for 8 minutes. Each ingredient will be added in stages every 8 minutes, in the following order: potatoes, corn, sausage, broccoli, crab legs, and finally, shrimp. The shrimp should be added last, as they cook quickly—just wait until they turn pink, and then everything is ready to serve. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp!

Chicken Fajitas Ingredients: Chicken Onions Bell peppers (red, yellow, and green) Jalapeños Fajita seasoning Shredded cheese Salsa Tortillas April 2025

Heat a non-stick skillet and add a drizzle of oil (I prefer olive oil). Start by adding your meat, followed by the onions, peppers, and garlic. Stir occasionally, adjusting your spices to enhance the flavor. Cook until the meat is thoroughly cooked, and the peppers are vibrantly tender.

Warm your tortillas in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Fill each tortilla with a portion of your fajitas, then top with shredded cheese and salsa. For an extra touch, consider adding sour cream and guacamole before digging in!

If They are Not Ready for a Relationship, They are Not Ready!

Have you ever met someone and within minutes of that initial conversation, you had already created a place for them in your life?

They loved God, their priorities made sense, they looked good, smelled good, their thought process was on point, and they truly listened when you spoke. Without even realizing it, you became captivated, daydreaming about the possibilities. However, suddenly they say those six words that make you pause for a second: “I’m not ready for a relationship.”

Depending on how badly you want this new beginning to become something more than a conversation, you may or may not actually hear these words. Instead, you might hear something else, like, “I’m not ready for a relationship,” and then you hear yourself finishing the sentence with, “But he has never met anyone like me.”

When you choose to ignore what someone is actually telling you and create a scenario of what you want, someone is about to get hurt, and it will probably be you.

Understand, when someone is not ready for a relationship, you cannot force them to be in one.

Let me repeat that: “When someone is not ready for a relationship, you cannot force them to be in one,” regardless of how fine, snatched, thick, pretty, rich, tall, wealthy, or even saved you may be.

But pause for a second. Why would you or anyone want to be in a relationship with someone who doesn’t want to be in one? Are you really that desperate that you would try to force someone into a relationship? Are you aware that when you try to force a relationship, everyone else usually sees what you are doing, but you?

Often, when we see someone we think would fit into our lives, we simply go with the formula of, “I want what I want,” and then take a by-any-means-necessary approach.

But how long do you think that type of relationship will last?

Let’s define a forced relationship.

A forced relationship is one where one or both parties are coerced into maintaining the relationship against their will. This coercion can take many forms, including emotional manipulation, physical threats, financial dependency, or social pressure.

So when you are trying to force a relationship, you are basically handcuffing someone or strong-arming them into being with you. When a woman does this, it’s not pretty, because now you are forcing a man to see your value and worth. However, how will they see it if you are forcing the situation? If they don’t see your value on their own, if they can’t recognize the prize that you are on their own, ladies, do you really want to be the one doing the choosing?

The Bible says in Proverbs 31:10, "Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies." So the first thing a man needs to do is recognize you and see your value when he finds you. If you have to force a man into a relationship, then you have already started on the wrong foot. However, some of us can be so desperate for a man that we will try to force a man into a relationship who is not even deserving of having a conversation with us.

In a proper relationship, the man always moves before the woman, expressing intention and clarity, and allows the woman space to approve or not if she is also interested. In a proper relationship, you will not find a woman strong-arming or chasing a man. Besides, in a relationship, the man should be able to see your value and the queen that you are without you selling yourself and showing off all your goods.

Even in life, it’s the sperm—millions of sperm—that chase the egg, not the egg chasing the sperm. Remember, it’s the masculine in pursuit of the feminine. Why? Because the feminine is the prize!

But when the prize doesn’t know she is the prize, that’s when the woman falls to levels of broken consciousness, where she finds herself trying to force a man—who doesn’t even qualify to be in her presence—into a relationship that he’s not smart enough to know he should run to.

Remember, ladies, it is wise not to make a move toward a man until he has shown you that he recognizes, respects, and makes clear his intentions. In doing so, this allows the man to model leadership initiative. He is not being forced into anything, and at some point, he will clearly say what he wants, which will protect your heart.

So listen clearly when you are having that initial conversation, and remember, don’t force anything. Sit back and allow yourself to be chosen. Besides, it feels a whole lot better.

Taking a Deeper Dive into Effective Budgeting by Understanding It’s 10 Key Components As Christian entrepreneurs and business owners, we must be faithful stewards of the resources God has given us. As indicated in previous articles, Proverbs 27:23 advises us to "know the condition of our flocks and be attentive to our herds." From a business standpoint, this means using wisdom when overseeing and allocating financial resources and always knowing the current state of our finances. Budgeting is a great way to apply this principle.

Last month's article addressed the differences between budgeting and forecasting. This month, we will focus on the steps involved in setting up a (projected) budget versus an (actual) budget, and how to compare the two using a variance report.

One of the most powerful tools for financial stewardship is implementing a well-structured budgeting system. It helps us guide our decision-making, improve cash flow management, and stay ahead of the game from a financial awareness standpoint. Making budgeting part of our regular financial activities can help us avoid financial pitfalls and strengthen the overall health of our business 10 Key Components of a Business Budget A budget can be used as a financial roadmap outlining projected revenues and emphasizing anticipated costs and expenses over a specific timeframe. It allows business owners to scrutinize spending habits to use resources more effectively. The key components of a business budget include: Revenue (Income) and Other Financial Resources Revenue includes the total income your business expects to generate within a specific timeframe, including sales of goods or services and other cash inflows. Occasional cash sources, such as the sale of assets, product returns, and similar sources of income, are typically excluded from regular monthly operating budgets but should appear when necessary.

2. Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) COGS refers to costs directly associated with producing goods or services sold, such as purchasing costs, direct labor, and shipping. These costs vary by industry.

3. General and Administrative (G&A) Expenses G&A expenses are the routine expenditure required to operate a business. They are categorized as follows: April 2025

Fixed Expenses: Fixed expenses include relatively constant recurring expenses, such as rent, insurance, loan payments, and salaries for permanent staff.

Variable Expenses: These fluctuating expenses include utilities, shipping, marketing, or temporary labor.

Operating Expenses: Examples of operating expenses include day-to-day expenses, such as office supplies, subscriptions, professional services, and maintenance.

1. Savings and Emergency Fund Proverbs 21:20 teaches that, "The wise stores up choice food and olive oil, but fools spend theirs up." Similarly, prudent business owners should set aside funds for unexpected expenses to get through economic or operational challenges.

2. Debt Repayment It's essential to manage debt responsibly. A well-planned budget also includes a manageable debt repayment strategy.

3. Giving and Community Support Incorporating giving into your budget—through tithes, charitable donations, or community outreach—aligns your business practices with Christian values.

4. Capital Costs Occasional expenditures for asset purchases, known as capital costs, should be planned and included in the budget when needed.

5. Investments Allocating funds in your budget for investments that promise future returns is vital for longterm growth.

6. Retirement Plans Offering retirement plans for yourself and/or your employees should become a fixed expense that requires a long-term financial commitment and would become a permanent line item on the budget.

7. Title and Time Period Title the budget properly and reference the correct time frame, such as Quarter One, Month Three or March 2025. This ensures the projected budget, and the actual budget are compared for the same time.

Comparing Budgeted vs. Actual Spending: The Variance Report After establishing the budget, next track the actual spending and compare it to the projected budget using a variance report. This process identifies discrepancies on each line between planned versus actual financial outcomes, highlighting areas of over or underspending.

GRAMMY® Award nominated contemporary gospel music mainstay Deitrick Haddon has reteamed with his `90s era choir, Voices of Unity, for a new gem, “Find Jesus” (Tyscot Records). This acoustic guitar strummed, urban pop mid-tempo is a follow-up to Haddon’s recent Billboard Gospel Airplay No. 1 smash, “Never Be the Same.” On the bright tune, Haddon and his troupe are seeking divine intervention on a breezy, feel-good rumination that showcases Haddon’s distinctive high notes, low growls and a catchy refrain that should have congregations singing along around the globe.

Concurrently, Haddon recently rejoined his former wife DAMITA and former Voices of Unity choir member, Tasha Page Lockhart, for a remake of their 1997 track, “Hold on 2 Your Faith.”

Deitrick Haddon & Voices of Unity mined a goldmine of cutting-edged urban gospel recordings in the late 1990s such as their now classic contemporary gospel songs such as “Who Is Like Our God,” “Anybody Here,” and their signature anthem, “He’s Able.” The first Voices of Unity album, Come into This House, was released in 1996 and it included fan favorites such as “Rain on Me” and “Don’t Give Up.” They won a Grammy® Award nomination for their 2007 album, Deitrick Haddon Presents Together in Worship, that featured the radio smashes “Watch Me Praise Him,” “We Cry Holy,” and “He’s Able.”
