Hope you are all well & safe and moving on with our lives and businesses as we knew it before the pandemic.

Please support our Farmers Markets at both Allerton & Lark Lane on 3rd Saturday & 4th Saturday respectively of each month.
I would like to welcome all our new advertisers in this October L15& L16 - there are many, my wishes go out to them- “Good Luck” with their current business ventures. Secondly I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our LOYAL businesses again for their tremendous support during the pandemic over the last 24 months supplying advertising or producing fantastic articles for all my magazines which we all enjoy reading.
We have had a lot on since we last spoke in June 2022 – making time fly by- I can’t believe we are into Autumn and not too far off Christmas will be here.
I introduced Margaret’s Market Place in my L15 & L16 in February 2021 which seems to be gaining popularity and very reasonable to advertise your business from just £15.00. This edition we have so much going on in Wavertree, Childwall & Woolton, We have just had the Allerton Square planter & seating area officially opened by our deputy Lord Mayor which all looked so good and well supported by Allerton in Bloom team and local residents.

LIDL AT THE ABBEY -LATEST NEWS
On 12th August 2022, Lidl UK announced that they will be retaining and refurbishing the former Abbey Cinema building in Wavertree, instead of demolishing it as originally proposed. A planning application (ref.22F/ 2152) has been submitted to Liverpool City Council, indicating how a single-storey Lidl supermarket will be incorporated into the ground floor of the Listed Building, and various external and internal features will be restored.
Lidl have no plans to use the upper floors, but a note on the drawings states: “All upper floor accommodation to be moth balled ... Existing areas to be preserved and existing envelope made good to ensure that no further deterioration can occur”. These extracts from the submitted Design & Access Statement (by Space Architects, of Newcastle-upon-Tyne) give some idea of the efforts being made to enhance the appearance and character of the building:
“3.3.1 Existing main roof covering to be overclad with new covering to ensure long-term weathertightness.
3.3.2 Existing lower roofs to be stripped, repaired as required and finished with new roof covering.
3.3.3 Existing brickwork piers to be carefully taken down to allow for remedial repairs to structural steel frame, before reinstatement as existing.
3.3.4 Existing brickwork to be fully cleaned, checked and made good, with new pointing to the entirety of the building envelope.
3.3.5 All existing external cast iron rainwater goods to be carefully removed for refurbishment and reinstatement.
3.3.6 Existing non-original windows to be removed and re placed with new steel windows which would follow the intent of the original 1930s fenestration.
3.3.7 Existing rotunda structure to be repaired and made good. External tiling to be retained where possible, or carefully removed and reinstated with like-for-like tiles where structural remediation is required.
3.3.8 Main building canopy over cladding to be removed to reveal original slimline concrete canopy. Repairs to existing canopy and re-roofing to be carried out as required.”

Abbot’s Lea School’s safeguarding officer receives award for vital role in supporting Liverpool families
A member of staff from Abbot’s Lea School, Woolton, has been honoured with an award for her dedication in supporting families who require extra assistance in Liverpool.
Lisa Sharpe, who is the Safeguarding Officer at the school, has been awarded with the Early Help Recognition Award by Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool Safeguarding Children Partnership. The award acknowledges Lisa’s continuous hard work, time and commitment to supporting families through the Early Help initiative throughout Liverpool.
Early Help means taking action to support a child, young person or their family in the early stages of a problem, as soon as it emerges. In the city there are three Early Help Hubs which encourage effective multi-agency working. Within each hub, there is a range of profes sionals who work together to support the Early Help agenda. This includes representatives from the police, children’s services, health, housing, Department for Work and Pensions, parent and infant mental health, therapeutic social workers and school family support service.
Lisa’s role at Abbot’s Lea School is vital. She supports students age 3-19 with Autism and complex learning needs, where there are spe cific needs to take extra care to jointly safeguarding the children in the family home or at school. Such joined up support ensures that all the necessary steps are being taken to protect the vulnerable youngsters from anything that might detract from a healthy and happy development.
Lisa is an essential point of contact between the school, the families, the child protection authorities and the organisations that their reg ulations apply to.
Lisa’s position at the school and her outstanding involvement with the Early Help Hubs has not gone unnoticed. Nicky Walsh, Early Help Partnership Manager at Liverpool City Council, recognised that the relationships Lisa was building with families and the support that she was giving them was making a real difference to the lives of chil dren and their families.
Nicky said: “High quality Early Help is vital in ensuring that children, young people and their families receive coordinated support as soon as a problem emerges. We are keen to acknowledge the hard work that is undertaken by professionals to support the Early Help agenda and are delighted to be able to recognise Lisa as one of the people who goes ‘above and beyond’ with her offer of early help.”
Lisa Sharpe said: “I am quite shocked and really humbled to receive this award from Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool Safeguard ing Children Partnership. I love my job and the children within the school are at the heart of everything I do. Their safety and wellbeing
are of the utmost importance, and I strive to ensure the best out comes for every single one of them.
“I have worked at Abbot’s Lea School since 2009 and so I have been fortunate to develop solid relationships with all of the families, in cluding those that, at times, require a little extra support.”
Headteacher of Abbot’s Lea School, Mrs Ania Hildrey, said: “I am absolutely overjoyed that Lisa has been recognised for her superb safeguarding work. Lisa is quiet, unassuming, and humble as a fellow colleague, and yet, her knowledge of safeguarding and her thorough, detailed, methodical approach to every single family (and never quite a “case”!), is truly inspiring. Everything that she does is child and family centred and her service to the school is vital. I am extremely proud that her commitment and the impact of her work have not gone unnoticed at the city-wide level.
“As we continue on our journey to become an International Centre of Excellence in Autism Education, Research and Professional Develop ment, our robust safeguarding policy and ethos means that we have created a culture of safeguarding that supports both our students, families as well as our staff.”
Mrs Hildrey added: “On behalf of all the team, I would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Lisa and thank her for all her hard work and dedication. You are simply the best, Lisa!”
Abbot’s Lea School provides the highest quality of specialist holistic education for students aged 3-19 living with Autism and a range of associated communication, interaction, social imagination, sensory and learning differences. The school is based in Woolton, Liverpool.

I recently returned from a week spent in the Shropshire countryside. It was so obvious that summer was at an end: the sky was that sharp blue that speaks of frost to come, and the trees had begun their annual conflagration, their leaves burnished gold, bronze and copper.
I know that some people see autumn as a sad time, a reminder that winter is on the way; but they’re really missing the beauty of this time of change, and the les son it has to teach us in the turn of the seasons about the cycle of life itself. As the poet Shelley said, “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?”
We’re youth worshippers, these days: desperate to cling on to that phase of our lives, and dreading the passage of time. We can buy all the health foods, the creams and potions we like, but we can’t stop old age and all that lies beyond it. Shouldn’t we embrace every phase of our lives, and enjoy the changes? Youth has its exuberance, but age brings mellow maturity and wisdom; childhood has its freedoms, but old age its joys in relationships with children and grandchildren. Too often we long for a particular time of our lives, seeing it as ‘golden’, and regretting its passing. In the same way, we dread losing our loved ones as they age. As a person of faith, I know that death is not the end: it’s like drawing down the curtain on Act 1 of our personal drama: there’s so much more to come. After we reach our winter, faith holds out the hope of another spring. Perhaps it is exactly because so many people have turned away from faith that they see only sadness and loss lying ahead.
Love the monarchy or despise it, the death of Queen Elizabeth brought the whole nation face to face with mortality. She had seemed indestructible, so woven into the fabric of this country that we could not imagine Britain without her. There was an outpouring of grief at her passing; yet she herself knew where she was heading, and we’re told that she had no fear of death, but engaged wholeheartedly in planning her funeral, and ensuring that it made her own hope for the next life very clear.
If the death of this much-respected queen is to stir anything, I hope that it stirs people to reflect on their own expectations for the end of life; and to begin to ask big questions about how meaningful their life has been, and what hope there is for a continuing meaning when we have ‘shuffled off this mortal coil.’
Whatever your views, may you revel in life’s spring and its summer, but may you also relish the glory of your autumn and the mellowness of winter. And may we be blessed with love in each season.

LIBERAL DEMOCRATS NEWS
It will be a bleak mid-winter for everyone in Liverpool
In September the then Chancellor of the Exchequer made the chilling statement that anyone earning less than £45,000 would ‘feel the pinch this winter’. Well, there is one statement I can agree with a Tory on, although I would not describe it as a pinch.
For many it will be a punch in the guts !
Last week we received a report on the cost-of-living crisis in Liverpool. It was a dreadful document which laid out in absolute clarity how much people will suffer in coming months. This report was issued well before the debacle of the last few weeks which has seen emergency purchases by the Bank of England of £65 billion, chaos on the stock and cash markets and a decline of the £. Just look at these figures below:
• Everton has the lowest median household income at £16,065 and at £42,443 Church has the highest household incomes.
• At £750 increase in energy costs equals 5% of total household incomes in Everton but a 1.7% of household incomes in Church
• Those that will experience the highest absolute increase in consumption costs, on average, have a higher income however those set to experience the highest proportional increase in costs are less able to meet this additional cost, with many already in fuel poverty.
• Liverpool has a median household income of £23,476, which is £9,648 below the UK average.
So, if we accept the Tory definition of ‘pain to come’ even in the Church Ward which I represent, which is the wealthiest, more than half the residents will suffer some element of hardship.
In fact, the projections show that even if the barking mad Truss proposals for energy capping come in then 90% of the population of Liverpool will be living with fuel policy and having to choose between heating and eating. The Truss proposals will come back to bite us later in any event.
Whilst energy producing companies are reaping huge dividends from the much higher prices in the world market Truss and co., are going to borrow money to pay their skyhigh prices. That will need to be paid back.
So, what can we do about this? Well, the biggest steps are
ones that Liberal Democrats have been calling for.
A windfall tax on producers, that even Johnson supported in a small way, and a return to the single market which Johnson would never support.
Locally there are two things that we could do:
1. Look after ourselves and each other. Yes, we will have to be far more careful with the power that we use although many have been watching their consumption for years and cannot cut their power use any more.
• Use the Tory solution and put more jumpers on!!
• Use public transport or walk more
• Contribute to food banks and other support schemes when we can do so.
• I think we can take for granted that in this great City of Liverpool we will look out for each other in so far as we can do so.
2. Generate more power ourselves which reduces cost and is environmentally sound.
At the last council meeting we proposed a motion on localised electricity generation which was knocked back by Labour.
This is, of course a long-term solution which is appropriate as there is a long-term crisis.
There are no simple answers to the problems that we face, and we need to recognise that blaming the problems of the war in Ukraine is just not the truth. Problems with the UK economy have been building since 2016. They relate to BREXIT and short-term nonsense from the Tories who cannot accept the need for a long term industrial and economic strategy.
When 90% of the people of Liverpool will be living in fuel poverty surely even the Tories will agree that urgent action is needed.

MORE THAN LOFT LADDERS Get more space at home for just £347+VAT
We’d all like more room at home. But not everyone can a ord to move or extend. So what if there was a way to get extra space for just a few hundred pounds, ready to use in less than a day? In truth, that space is already there. It’s just not being used to its full potential.
For most, the loft is a dark and dingy place visited on rare occasions; a precarious scramble across dusty beams with torch in hand, grabbing what’s needed then clambering back past boxes lled with long-forgotten belongings. But that dark and dingy place is worth thousands. In fact, it takes up a third of the oorspace in an average home. So shouldn’t we be making the most of it?
And that’s where More Than Loft Ladders (MTLL) comes in. Founded in Bolton six years ago, MTLL specialises in generating space by making our lofts easily accessible. The latest MTLL franchise to open covers the Warrington area and is run by skilled local, Paul Langley, who says the company’s no-frills approach is what most people are looking for.
“We’re not selling £15,000 loft conversions,” says Paul. “This is a low-cost and simple alternative. For just £347 + VAT you can get a ladder that slides easily up and down, as well as a proper light and some boarding to make the space safe and secure. We can also t a draft-proof loft hatch if required from only £55.”
The price customers are quoted is the price they will pay, with no additional call out charges. Paul provides a free guarantee on all parts and labour too.
For a free survey and quotation with no obligation, contact More Than Loft Ladders now! Call 0800 0359 880 or visit the website at www.morethanloftladders.co.uk

BULKY BOBS BINNED BY CORPY
If I was to ask each of the readers of this publication which was the best service offered by the City Council, I am certain that most of them would say Bulky Bobs. This is a service which:
• Collects bulky household goods effectively, thus preventing dumping
• Reuses or recycles a huge amount of what it collects
• Provides cheap or free furniture for those who are home making on limited budgets
• Gets people off the dole (more than 500) who have been long term unemployed.
Why have they binned this service?
Well, it is not all clear. Legally the Council had to put the bulky waste collection contract out to tender. They put out a pre-tender invitation and only Bulky Bobs expressed an interest. They went out to full tender and only Bulky Bobs submitted a bid.
So, the Council then rejected the tender and said they would bring the collection back to be done by council staff. However, they then said that this was a temporary measure, and they would be putting the tender out for a second time to public competition and that Bulky Bobs might apply for the work again. In the meantime, the Council would probably contract Bulky Bobs for a range of intermediary services such as their mattress recycling which is unique.
But this is nonsense. How can Bulky Bobs re-tender when by then their staff will have gone and their trucks will have been sold. This is an execution of a much-loved operation for which there will no reprieve.
In justification officers say they need to ensure that the taxpayers get value for money. Well, there’s a novelty al beit an attitude that I have been hoping to see for many a long year. What I don’t know is what that means to them. Are they just looking at the collection costs? What allowance have they made for the reuse and recycling elements? What allowance is made for the success in getting people not only into jobs but well-paid jobs?
I have not been allowed to see the figures to judge for myself. So, Liverpool still takes the top award in the UK for secrecy and a failure to engage properly with its elected representatives!
Cost is clearly important in a council which is desperate for cash, but I believe that Bulky Bobs is really good value for money if you include all the outputs that they provide in addition to the waste collections one.
I firmly predict that this decision will lead to greater dumping and less recycling. It seems that once again the Council know the cost of everything but the value of nothing

Wavertree Garden Suburb Institute, 149-151 Thingwall Road, Liverpool L15 7JX
At a time when there is a critical need for collaborative and sustainable partnerships in the best interest of the environment, never more so has there been a perfect opportunity for a call for action to connect people with their communities.

The Firewood Poem
Beechwood fires are bright and clear
If the logs are kept a year, Chestnut’s only good they say, If for logs ‘tis laid away. Make a fire of Elder tree, Death within your house will be; But ash new or ash old, Is fit for a queen with crown of gold
Birch and fir logs burn too fast Blaze up bright and do not last, it is by the Irish said Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread. Elm wood burns like churchyard mould, E’en the very flames are cold But ash green or ash brown Is fit for a queen with golden crown
Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke, Apple wood will scent your room
Pear wood smells like flowers in bloom
Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter’s cold But ash wet or ash dry a king shall warm his slippers by.
The firewood poem was written by Celia Congreve, believed to be first published in THE TIMES newspaper on March 2nd 1930. © by owner. provided at no charge for educational purpose

Good Market is a place for those who want to shop consciously, who waant to uplift their local creatives and spread good vibes whilst doing so. We began as the Brainchild of Good Liverpool, an online store that supported local businesses within the Liverpool City Region and beyond during the pandemic. The markets came as a reponse to our retailers wanting to get back out there, to immerse themselves in the community they had missed and begin selling face-to-face once more. Our success has surprised even us, with the response from our community being more than we could ever begin to fathom, and because of them, we continue to thrive.

Paula Barker MP and the Cost-of-Living Crisis the cost-of-living crisis is causing a great deal of anxiety for many people across my constituency of Liverpool Wavertree. Through my surgeries, the work my office does day in and day out and the foodbank we run in Wavertree, I know first-hand that our people are at the sharp end of an economic crisis not of their own making. I know many are struggling that have never previously struggled before and the run up to the festive period will undoubtedly be an anxious one for all communities across the country. My office is always on hand to help guide and support people where we can. We always seek to get the constitu ents the best support from the range of agencies and charities that exist across our city. Despite the despair and anguish of the last three years, I know that when the chips are down in Liverpool our abiding qualities of compassion, empathy and solidarity come to the fore and now is no different. We will see better days, of that, I am sure. As your Member of Parliament, my task of representing you in Parliament is to speak up for the issues that matter to you, your family, and our wider community. The fundamental building blocks to a life well lived are all that we ask – a job that pays a wage you can live on; a safe and warm home; public services like the NHS that remain owned by us and ran in our interest; the ability to raise children if you so wish and safe in the knowledge you can retire at an age where you can enjoy life with dignity and
in security. Those building blocks have been hacked at during the past decade and more. As your MP, I remain determined in always focussing on your concerns, worries and your aspirations - for yourself and your loved ones. Take care during the coming weeks. I take my mantra of ‘working for Wavertree’ into everything I do as your MP and in Westminster. My constituency covers the wards of Wavertree, Childwall, Picton, Church, Old Swan and Kensington & Fairfield, and the needs of my constituents is always at the forefront of my mind. If you wish to get in touch, please do so. One of the easiest ways you can do so is via my website (www.paulabarkermp. co.uk) where you will find my details. If you would like to contact me about any issue at all, please get in touch.

Beyond The Melody with Alison Benson
“I couldn’t imagine living a life without making music or listening to it.”
This month Beyond The Melody features award-winning storytelling songwriter and ukulele player, Alison Benson, who has won the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge on three occasions. Who were your biggest influences in music? when I was a child, my parents were really into John Denver and so I’ve always really loved that folky sound, so I suppose that’s been a big influence on me. When I was a teenager I really grew to love Simon and Garfunkel we still listen to them all the time now - I loved the words, the music, the guitar playing. I used to sing a lot at home with my two sisters growing up so that enjoyment of making music has always been with me.
What attracted you to the ukulele? An accident! We were all at my parents’ house and they got an old banjolele down from a cupboard upstairs. It was really battered but I fancied getting one, so I bought a cheap uke and just fell for it. I then started listening to Jake Shimabukuro who plays on another level. I love the sound of it.
Did lockdown affect your songwriting? It gave me more time which was a lovely thing from a difficult time. I also took part in an online course with Stu Hanna from Megson which was great for getting some fresh ideas and inspiration. There was something about that time that made being creative a comfort and perhaps the introspective way of living brought about some new ideas.
How did it feel when you won the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge Awards?
It was amazing! I couldn’t believe it, to be honest. There are so many great songwriters around in the local area so I felt really honoured to have won. I love being a judge on it, as well. Liverpool Acoustic does great work for music in Liverpool.
Have you always written songs in a storytelling style? Yes, I have always done that. I don’t write so much about myself or my own thoughts and feelings; I prefer to tell other people’s stories. I like to get inside someone else’s shoes, I suppose and imagine what was going on for them and there are so many stories to tell.
Why is music important to you?
It’s an outlet, a joy, a comfort. It’s really sociable. It’s always been a big part of my life and I couldn’t imagine living a life without making music or listening to it.
What advice would you give to a songwriter just starting out?
Go for it. Try things out. Record your ideas and keep them. Don’t give up and do it for as long as you enjoy itbecause that’s what it’s all about really.

History Notes from The Wavertree Society
by Mike Chitty
In the late 19th century there were literally hundreds of backstreet dairies in Liverpool. Most of them were run by farmers who had moved there from the Yorkshire Dales or from Westmorland to provide a supply of fresh, wholesome milk to the city’s growing population. The dairy premises consisted of a purpose-built shippon, in which the cows were kept and milked, along side a house – often an end terraced - where the cowkeeper and his family lived and maybe had a retail shop. The milk was delivered daily to the surrounding streets, using a horse-drawn cart. Sometimes the cows were led through the streets to graze in a nearby field, but often they never left the shippon at all. Grass clippings, hay and other cattle foods were deliv ered to the dairy and the ‘muck merchants’ removed the waste. The story of these Liverpool Cowkeepers has been well documented by Dave Joy, whose family ran a dairy in Garston. His website contains information about many of the families who ran ‘milkhouses’ in Wavertree – in cluding the Harper family whose shippon was in Chestnut (then spelt Chesnut) Grove. The buildings survive today, though now converted to residential accommodation, and the Wavertree Society is hoping to install one of its heritage plaques to remind passers-by of what was – 100 years ago – proudly described as “Harper’s 1st Prize Dairy”. Rowland Harper had moved into the premises at 52 Chesnut Grove in about 1895 – having been listed in the 1891 Census as a ‘Farmer’ at 61a High Street Wavertree. At the 1899 Lancashire County Show, held in Liverpool that year, he was awarded First Prize Gold Medal for the ‘Best Kept Shippon, Milkhouse, and Shop or Dairy in Liverpool or Bootle’. The 1901 Census listed 12 people living there: Rowland Harper (age 42), Cowkeeper, and his wife Sarah, both born in Sedbergh; their 4 children (age 1-10) all b. Wavertree; Sarah’s father Thomas Mason, Retired Farmer,
COWKEEPING IN WAVERTREE
b. Killington, Westmorland; together with 3 male Dairy Hands (2 b. Westmorland and 1 b. Cheshire) and 2 female Domestic Servants, b. Sedbergh. By 1911 the premises were occupied by a different set of Harpers: Fawcett Harper (age 41) Dairy Farmer, b. Sedbergh; his wife Isabella, b. Garsdale; their 4 children (age 5-15), all b. Liverpool; together with a female Domestic Servant, b. Maghull, 3 male Farm Labourers, b. Kirkby Stephen, Shropshire and Staffordshire, a male Driver, b. Liverpool, and a male Dairy Servant, b. Shropshire. Apparently Fawcett Harper, who in 1901 had been running a dairy at 104 Berkley Street in Liverpool, was a nephew of Rowland. This practice of selling the business to a friend, neighbour or relative from the Dales was quite common. The various cowkeeping families also tended to inter-marry, and to socialise through the very active Liverpool Cowkeepers Association.
We were able to put Dave Joy in contact with John Harper (Fawcett’s grandson) who used to live at the Chesnut Grove dairy and remembers 38 cows being kept there, pre-WW2. In 1941, at the age of 7, he was taken to live in the Isle of Man - his mother’s homeland - when his father John Fawc ett Harper sold the dairy to Thomas Ellis. John and his wife later came back to Liverpool, as teachers, but returned to the island where they established a very successful busi ness (Shebeg Pottery) specialising in the modelling of ped igree cattle and other animals.
If you have any memories of the Chestnut Grove premises - or any other dairies in Wavertree - please let us know by emailing info@wavertreesociety.org or by posting a mes sage on our Facebook page @wavsoc. Dave Joy’s book is called ‘Liverpool Cowkeepers’, and his website is at www. davejoy-author.com

Childwall & Wavertree Matters
Speeding Cars One of the constant concerns of local residents, is cars speeding in residential areas.
Despite all the attempts to slow cars down, some drivers once they are behind the wheel of their car want to push the accelerator pedal down and take no notice of the speed limit. Twenty mile an hour speed limits in residential areas have not seen a single prosecution this year and the police have not got the resources to use speed cameras to catch speeding drivers. A scheme has been tried in other cities called Com munity Speeding Watch. Local volunteers are given speed cameras and with training from the police use the speed cameras to catch speeding drivers. Anyone caught gets a letter from the police. The project has been very successful in other cities. Carole and Pat are exploring whether a similar scheme could operate in Liverpool.
The former Manweb Playing Field on Thingwall Road. This wonderful open space was sadly sold off by the Council. The lease was bought by a company registered in the Isle of Man for a £1 million pounds. The field has been left unused for several years. Local residents want to bring the field back into use as an open space for the enjoyment of all. One of the latest proposals is to build a secondary school on the site. As your local Councillors we are opposed to such a development. The Council would have to find £1 million plus to try and get the lease back. There would be a large increase in traffic in this residential area with parents’ cars no doubt causing major parking problems and using roads as rat runs. Any new school would be near to existing secondary schools which have spare places. We support local residents who want to see this field returned to its former use as a sports field and recreational park or to look at a mix of Housing and Open Space. The local residents should be consulted on the best use for the Field.
Hurray for Lidl at the Abbey We are delighted that a new Lidl Supermarket will open at the former Abbey Cinema. Originally Lidl wanted to pull down the Abbey.
The Abbey is a local landmark and listed building.
Residents, local councillors and the Wavertree Society objected to its demolition. Lidl have listened to the community and now we get a new supermarket in a heritage building. Well done Lidl for listening to local people.
Litter Picks Residents very rarely see a road sweeper in their street, so we have started organising litter picks to keep our area clean. We held the first one at the Rocket and thanks to local residents who turned out to help and supportive local businesses. The South Childwall Residents Association have been organising such events for many years.
If you want to come and help let us know.

For the last 11 years Gateacre School has offered families the option of collecting preloved uniform from school to help with the ever-increasing living costs. When their BIG Little Library opened 7 years ago, the school was able to offer free books to its local community. As of this academic year, they are going another step further in helping their families and wider community. With huge support from Liverpool Zero Food Waste the school has set up a Community Table in its reception area, where each day there is a fresh selection of food available to come and collect for free. The food has been collected from local supermarkets, cafes and pantries by the incredible volunteers of Liverpool Zero Food Waste, saving the food from going to landfill. It is then donated to the school which is using it within its own kitchen and food technology lessons, as well as helping the local community. Keep a lookout on their social media accounts for photos of what is available each day, or follow #GateacreCommunity
