he room of the double homicide at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley was registered to victim number one, Dr. Cecelia Rollins, a member of their health club and a frequent guest. Berkeley Police Department has not produced the identity of the male victim, although Captain Williams reports that partial fingerprints match those found at two of the other Five Star Hotel homicides in the Bay Area. The Captain, as a veteran police officer, knew that he could not afford to be too impressed with the amount of progress made on the Claremont Hotel case, because the trail could go cold just as fast. He directed Diego and Chi to visit the Gilroy Police Department. Chi and Diego drove south on Highway 101 and were at the Gilroy Police Office before the lunch hour. The two detectives on the ‘Gilroy Case’ were about to leave for lunch when they were asked to remain behind to assist the arriving detectives from Berkeley. The data files of unsolved cases similar to the Garlic Festival homicide (6 Roses Case) were taken in a conference room and placed on a table in the middle of the room. The fourth wall faced the hallway was all windows. After brief formalities, the four detectives dove into the evidence, all with the same mindset. The two Gilroy officers opened up the folders and Diego and Chi separated photographs and evidence. Fidel Costa, one of the Gilroy police officers, wrote the names of the pieces of evidence on the whiteboard as Diego dictated them: Altars, red satin cover, Chinese character, and roses.
