PROVISIONAL

It is hard to believe the 2020-2021 League year is coming to a close. It has been an amazing, albeit unique year. At this time last year, we were in lockdown—all due to an unknown, global pandemic that has now become a part of our daily lives. Honestly, not much could have prepared any of us for how this year would go. I can remember thinking, “How on earth am I going to have a Provisional year, let alone recruit a Provisional class?” Due to the unforeseen circumstances, I tried to manage my expectations and just simply hoped for the best. Despite the chaos going on around us, we welcomed a great group of women into their Provisional year. This year’s Provisionals were excited and eager to participate from the moment they started. They wanted every opportunity to engage in the League and were hungry for ways to learn more about the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. As these bright women transition into their first year of Active membership, I know they are going to bring joy and positivity to all facets of the League. Although most of the year had passed, we were finally able to gather together at Cantina Laredo for Cocktails with the Board. It was a relaxing evening and such a fun way to celebrate the achievements of the year. The evening was filled with laughter and merriment, and for that, I am so thankful we were able to close out the year in person. Throughout the year, each Provisional member sought opportunities to observe Safe Sitter sessions and Red Apron Pantry packing and distribution days, worked Fund Development shifts, learned about the history and structure of the League through Provisional meetings, and attended a variety of General Membership meetings. Due to the restrictions with COVID-19 and our unforeseen week of snow, there were so many events and opportunities that we could not provide this year. I know these women are so excited and hopeful to experience a few more aspects of the League in the coming year. Unfortunately, these amazing ladies missed out on many opportunities to see first-hand the League in action. Although many events were transitioned to a virtual platform, the knowledge was provided, but the many experiences were unavailable. Despite the setbacks, this year’s Provisionals have remained eager and excited about their future roles in the League. With all that was constantly changing, it goes without saying that I could not have made it through this year without the help and support of my team. I want to give a big thank you to my Assistant Chair, Jessica Latin, and my

amazing Provisional leaders: Elizabeth Martin, Chandler Moore, and Megan Strecker. They never failed. These ladies were always present to help and eager to build connections with their Provisional group. They went above and beyond and never let the circumstances of the year keep them from staying positive and driven in their League roles. Despite all of the extra efforts involved, we did not falter from our mission statement. I could never find enough words to convey my full gratitude, and I know that you were all fully integral to the success of this year. I look forward to seeing what you all accomplish in years to come! Thank you for being a part of this Provisional year and pouring your hearts into these women. As I look back on this year, I realize how much I have loved every minute of this placement, as abnormal as these months may have been. This position has given me a new perspective of the League and has allowed me to grow and stretch myself beyond what I expected was possible. Moving toward the end of this Provisional year, I leave the upcoming Provisionals in the hands of Jessica Latin and her Assistant Chair, Elizabeth Martin. I have no doubt they are both going to do great things in their positions. Both of these women have played an essential role in this past year, and I have full confidence that they will pour into and usher in our incoming Provisional class, preparing them for their future roles as Active members of the Junior League. I wish them nothing but the best and some normalcy! If you know anyone who is interested in joining the League, please have them contact Jessica Latin, Provisional Chairman for the 2021-2022 League year. They can get more information by contacting jlsbprovisional@gmail.com. As I bid farewell to this position, I wish everyone a safe and happy summer and that our upcoming League year be filled with health and normalcy.
