FROM THE EDITOR

Happy New Year! I can’t believe it is already 2024. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season filled with good times, good food, and some good rest. Each new year brings reflection, change, and excitement for what is to come. Just as our community is gearing up for the upcoming Mardi Gras season, we have a lot of local Junior League events we are gearing up for as well.
Like the start of a new year, this winter issue contains a glimpse of what has passed and a sneak peek of what is coming. There is also some information about getting yourself and those you know involved.
As you read through this issue, you will read about the success of many of our community projects, such as Red Apron Pantry and Artist for a Day, as well as our upcoming events and opportunities, such as Designer Bag Bingo. You will also find ways to financially support events within the League, such as scholarships and sponsorships for our various events. Lastly, we are excited once again to spotlight the area’s many League-owned businesses. Be sure to check them out, shop small, and support the community and our fellow League members.
I cannot wait to see what this year holds for the League. I foresee a great year of change, growth, and fellowship among the League members! Enjoy this season and laissez les bon temps rouler!

LETTER FROM THE
President
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. We are still in full swing with our League year, and I am thrilled to get to reflect on the work we have done thus far.
When I think about the past few months, it’s hard not to think of all of the hard work that our members put in during the busiest time of our League year. The Red Apron Pantry worked hard to grow our customer base at our food pantry, and just received a perfect score on our annual monitoring review from the Food Bank. On September 23, we stocked our Pumpkin Patch at Provenance with over 2,000 pumpkins. The Pumpkin Patch opened on opened September 26, and just days later, the Revel opened on September 30.
For nine days we staffed three Pepsi booths and the Artist for a Day tent. We served over 1,500 children in our community by providing unique crafts and artist educations. A favorite of participants was getting to create their own Clementine Hunter-inspired zinnia painting. This art education community project impacts many different families in our area. While this is an extremely busy time for us, I am always proud to see our members step up to serve. My favorite part of the Revel is the history that the JLSB has with it, and I am glad that we honor that commitment.
In November, Active and Provisional members met in small groups to discuss the League as a whole and got very meaningful feedback. Thank you to the Sustainers who hosted these small group meetings: Jodie McJunkins, Maura Pugh, and Toni Thompson.
A special highlight of the fall was joining Nominating Chair Maria Woodley and President Elect Alex Person to ask Shelvia Grant to serve as JLSB President in 2025-2026. I am excited to support Shelvia as she works to serve the League, our members, and our community.
Another thing that we have focused on as a League is finding our identity in a post-quarantine world. We, like other organizations, have struggled to find our footing. I was excited to call an ad hoc committee, co-Chaired by Vickie Meadows and Jodi Penn Rives, that advised the Board on necessary changes to the structure of our League. This committee included Maggie Pressly, Kezia Pigford Swinney, Jeri Bowen, Jessica Latin, Alex Person, Stacey Melerine, and myself. I am grateful for their leadership, especially in

a very busy time of year! After careful consideration of the suggestions presented by the committee, the Board voted to bring back the requirement of sponsors for Provisionals, as well as changing the way Nominating is slated. We have also voted to disband the Management Team and put those positions back on the Board. This will make our operations much more efficient, which is critical. The bylaws changes, which includes the Executive Committee composition, as well as how the Nominating Chair is selected, will be voted on by the membership in March.
Thank you all for your support of the League, and I look forward to sharing with you one last letter as president in our next issue!
Best,

Lamb 2023-2024 President

LETTER FROM THE Sustainer Advisor
We are pleased to announce that Ginny Murphy and Kim Poindexter have been selected as Sustainers of the Year for the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. These honorees are women of outstanding leadership who continued using their talents and resources honed in the Junior League to serve our community. Their work across many non-profit organizations in Shreveport-Bossier has made a positive impact and they have served as role models, advocates, and mentors to many.
A luncheon honoring Ginny and Kim will be held on Wednesday, February 7 at 11:30 a.m. at East Ridge Country Club. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased by calling the League office. Should you have any questions, please email Jodi Penn Rives at jodi10710@aol.com or call the League office, (318) 221-6144.
Ginny Murphy completed her Provisional year in 1983 and served her placement at Puppets through 1985. Ginny then developed a strong attachment to the Lighthouse project, and she eventually became the project’s chairman in 1988-1989. She served as an advisor and chaired the Nominating Committee in 1990-1991. After Nominating, Ginny returned to a community placement by serving as one of the Charlie Bob readers at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. She went Sustaining in 1997. Originally from South Carolina, Ginny moved to Shreveport when she married Tom Murphy. She and Tom have three children, Caroline, John, and Thomas. Ginny continues to serve our community and we look forward to highlighting her work at the Luncheon.
In 2019, the Sustainer of the Year Award Guidelines allowed for posthumous nominations and we are thrilled to honor the life and legacy of Kim Poindexter. Kim was a Provisional member of the Junior League in the late 1980’s. Her League career involved many placements: Bargain Haul, Red River Revel, Corresponding Secretary, and President in 1999-2000. Kim was a natural volunteer and

was masterful at organizing events and bringing together groups of people for a common cause.
Kim passed away on March 22, 2017 and is survived by her husband, Robert Poindexter, and their son, Robert John Poindexter, Jr. We’ll share more about Kim’s service to our community and her legacy of service during the Luncheon.
Sincerely,
Jodi Penn Rives Sustainer Advisor

Update PROVISIONAL
2023 has come and gone, and 2024 is off to a great start! We have welcomed an exceptional group of ladies with hearts for service into the 2023-2024 Provisional class.
This League year’s Provisional class had many opportunities to learn more about the Junior League of ShreveportBossier and all it has to offer our community. The first part of the Provisional class’s League year has been dedicated to the history of the League and its current placement opportunities. Provisionals have heard from Head Volunteers from many of JLSB’s community placements. November’s meeting was hosted in the home of past President and current Sustainer Advisor to the Board, Jodi Penn Rives. A panel was created of three ladies: Sustainer at Large, Heather Courtney; past President, Peggy Murphy; and Active Kids Program Volunteer, Carolyn Murphy, to discuss the League’s past, present, and future. These Active and Sustaining members discussed their experiences in the League and gave advice to the Provisional class.
Provisionals have served Red River Revel Pepsi and Pumpkin Patch Fund Development shifts. They have also observed many of the League’s Community Placements, including Red Apron Pantry, MAGIC, and Artist for a Day. Several Provisionals have attended a Board meeting to observe the inner workings of the League. Provisionals’ knowledge of the League continues through attending monthly General
Lindey Smith

Member Meetings and Provisional Member Meetings.
Provisionals have also had several social meetings, including a Provisional Advisor organized bowling night. The Provisional class’s JLSB themed Christmas party was held in December, where Provisionals had dinner and played games with JLSB themed prizes, such as Designer Bag Bingo tickets and League t-shirts. A selfie station was available to capture all of the fun that was had!
Going into the second half of the League year, Provisionals will begin to focus on their plans and ideas for their own League career. In January, Provisionals will hear from Active Kids Head Volunteer and meet with their Advisor and Provisional group to begin thinking about their goals within the League. In February, Provisionals will have Cocktails with the Board. Provisionals will also have individual meetings with their Provisional Advisors for their annual interview. March’s meeting will be dedicated to a placement party to help Provisionals rank their placement preferences.
The 2023-2024 Provisional Year is halfway over. We are only months away from welcoming 31 amazing ladies into the League as Active Members. This Provisional class will be a great asset to our League and community, and I look forward to seeing all of the things they accomplish during their League career.

RED APRON Pantry
Throughout the years, the JLSB has enriched the entire SBC area with a vast majority of programs, fundraisers, and various opportunities to directly support and impact our community. Our very own Red Apron Pantry is a community placement that continues to do just that. Well into its sixth year, the Red Apron Pantry remains a consistent comfort for many clients who have been visiting our food pantry since its inception, while continuing to provide for new households every year.
Located inside our very own JLSB Office in Suite D, our Red Apron Pantry opens its doors every month to distribute food and other household items to those in need in our local community. Clients who meet the income requirements regulated by the Food Bank can fill out an application and enroll in our program immediately. Red Apron Pantry has continued its partnership with the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana in Shreveport. We are so thankful for this continued partnership, as this allows us to submit monthly orders and always keep our shelves stocked with a variety of essential items. Brianna Atkinson, our family liaison, has done a tremendous job in her role by contacting our clients regularly to remind them about distribution dates and to provide other information about the pantry.
Housing our pantry inside Suite D continues to be a helpful asset for Red Apron Pantry. We are able to facilitate a true pantry model. Our committee stays very busy keeping two rooms fully stocked and rotating out items in an organized and timely manner. When I first began working with Red Apron Pantry, our deep freezer was a huge resource when it came to the grocery selection process. The deep freezer allowed the pantry to distribute meat items that must be kept frozen. This year, we were able to add another deep freezer that we use to store frozen fruits and vegetables. Being able to offer not only meat and poultry but also produce items to our clients greatly increases their opportunity to get the nutrients they need into their diet.
Another initiative that the Red Apron Pantry has taken this year is to bring back the client’s choice distribution method. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the pantry shifted from a self-serve model to curbside pickup. During
Tara Jones

the pandemic, Red Apron Pantry leaders developed a new distribution model that allowed volunteers to pack boxes and distribute to clients’ vehicles as they drove up. Now, we have reverted back to client’s choice method where the clients come into the pantry, grab a buggy, and make their monthly selections based on their own personal preference and the items available. While there are benefits to both methods, our clients have missed selecting the items they prefer and have enjoyed coming in and interacting with the members of the Red Apron Pantry committee. Being able to look into the faces of the people we serve and ask about their day is something that I personally have enjoyed as we’ve pulled ourselves out of the pandemic.
From a volunteer standpoint, I believe Red Apron Pantry’s predetermined shifts and set annual schedule allow our committee to plan around their shift, and the structure gives them the regularity that other placements sometimes can’t provide. Like many others, I work full time during the week, and it was important that I found a placement that would complement my work schedule. Red Apron Pantry has been a placement that has easily done just that. Red Apron Pantry meets, packs, and distributes to our clients on the third Thursday of every month. Our shifts rotate every hour on the hour from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with our doors opening for distribution at 5 p.m. These dates and shifts are set at the beginning of the League year, and volunteers can sign up month to month for a one-hour shift that fits their schedule best. Shiftwork includes picking up food from the Food Bank, unloading into Suite D, rotating and restocking shelves, and distributing directly to clients once doors are open. Whatever your schedule or volunteer preference may be, there is a spot for you at Red Apron Pantry. This community placement is a fantastic way to find fellowship with other League members while getting involved and directly serving our community. I welcome and encourage any League member who has not yet experienced the Red Apron Pantry to please come by Suite D for our next distribution and ask questions, meet the committee, and see what we are all about!

Committee
THE 2023-2024 NOMINATING COMMITTEE IS
STARTING
Maria Woodley

OFF THE NEW LEAGUE YEAR WITH A BANG!
In September, the Committee met to slate President Elect Elect to serve as President Elect in 2024-2025 and President in 2025-2026, and Pumpkin Patch Assistant Chair for 2023-2024. Winnie Sanders was selected as Pumpkin Patch Assistant Chair, to be Pumpkin Patch Chair in 20242025. The committee selected . . . drum roll please . . . Shelvia Grant! All slate nominations were approved by general membership in November.

Shelvia has been a member of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier for ten years. Throughout her ten years, she has served on all four councils of the League. She currently serves as a Pumpkin Patch Volunteer and has held previous positions of Nominating Chair, Nominating Advisor, Communications VP and Assistant VP, Public Relations Coordinator, Parishscope Business Manager, and Between the Lines Volunteer. Shelvia’s favorite part about the JLSB is collectively impacting the community with phenomenal women with diverse backgrounds and skillsets. She looks forward to implementing new initiative to provide support to our membership, increase visibility of our community projects, and maintain League perpetuity.
When not working or participating in League events, Shelvia enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, crafting, and flower arranging. She is a licensed attorney, practicing estate planning and probate law and is em-
ployed by LSU Health Shreveport. Shelvia is also a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, The Harry V. Booth - Judge Henry A. Politz Inns of Court, Delta Lamba Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., American Cancer Society of NWLA Executive Leadership Council, and Elizabeth Baptist Church of Benton.
Shelvia lives in her hometown of Shreveport with her husband Jutorrean “Trea” Davis, whom she married in December 2023.
Did you know the JLSB offers over 20 positions that are slated by the Nominating Committee? These positions offer members the opportunity to lead and serve on various committees that shape the League year. Every position in the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is an excellent way for our members to develop skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, and are an opportunity to learn more about themselves as they fulfill their roles. In the JLSB, a leader has passion, dedication, is a team player, and is willing to accept help from other members. Many of these rolls provide the chance to sit in an assistant role in what we call “two year, move up positions.” This gives members a chance to learn and shadow the position for a year, while working on the committee before rising to the challenge of a Chair position. Do you have what it takes to be a leader in the JLSB? If you have any questions about the nominating process, please reach out to me and I will be happy to talk to you.

JLSB Scholarships
Every year, the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier has the opportunity to give out scholarships to high school students in Caddo and Bossier Parishes. As an organization of women whose Mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training, we are proud to award these scholarships to two deserving females.
Soon, counselors at Caddo and Bossier parish high schools and other local youth organizations are given the criteria for the scholarship and asked to apply. The JLSB board chooses two deserving students for the scholarships from this application process. Decision making goes through a blind application process where the Board does not know the names of the applicants, allowing the selection process to be unbiased and based on merit. Once announced, the scholarship recipients are invited to our annual May dinner meeting, where they are presented to the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier membership and the community as scholarship recipients.
Over the years, we have had scholarship recipients from all over Caddo and Bossier Parish, and these young ladies are extraordinary in their extracurricular activities and academics. These young ladies have all had a personal mission focused on bettering the community and have worked tirelessly to make a difference. If you know of a female high school senior deserving of this scholarship, please encourage them to apply and seek information from their school counselor. The application process information will be coming out soon. Decisions will be made in early spring. Every year we are so proud of our scholarship recipients and all they do to support our community at a young age.

Alex Person
LETTER FROM THE PlacementChair
2024 is here and a brand-new year awaits us! With a new year comes the excitement of trying new placements in the League, growing as a leader in your existing one, and getting to make another year of impact in our community. We had a great turnout at our Placement Fair after the January GMM, and I loved seeing everyone’s excitement in visiting with other members serving in various positions throughout the League!
The placement process gives members the chance to showcase their existing skills and talents or challenge themselves with a completely new position that may be unfamiliar to them. Maybe you have social media accounts but would like to learn more about the logistics of it by serving on our Communication Council. Or maybe you teach during the day but have always wanted to try your hand at Fund Development to learn more about the ins and outs of fundraising. This is the perfect time to look at your goals for the year and see how you want to grow personally, socially, and intellectually.
When considering a placement for next year, be sure to check out the Placement Handbook that will soon be available on the Digital Cheetah homepage. It contains vital information for all available opportunities including descriptions, needed skills, skills that will be developed, time commitment, and more.
It’s important to consider the amount of time you have and can dedicate to your placement for the year. We offer a large range of time commitment and concentrated options to allow all members to find something that works for them. Some committees like Active Kids hit the ground running and start meeting during the summer and are done by the end of summer. This is considered a concentrated placement. On the other hand, the Red Apron Pantry committee meets regularly a few hours a month for the entire League year.
Please make sure to consider any life events or scheduling conflicts that may affect your ability to complete a placement such as pregnancy, school commitments, work schedules, etc. For example, if you are due with a baby in October, serving on the Pumpkin Patch is likely not the best fit. Letting us know you work late evenings, are busy in the spring with sports, have a conflict of interest asking for sponsors, etc. are all beneficial in helping the Placement Committee find the best placement to fit your needs and desires for the upcoming League year. Please include this information in the “Comments” section of the Online Placement Process and we will do what we can to accommodate you. Making sure we have the right people in the right positions helps make our committees and events more successful!
Hannah Alexander

The “Planning Your JLSB Career” document is a great resource on Digital Cheetah to help identify your current skills and what placements would be a good fit. It also shows the skills needed for future placements you want to work towards such as Head Volunteer, Project Research & Development Chair, etc. This can be found under the “Resources” tab under “Placement Handbook and Information.” Another great resource, and one that I have found most beneficial, is reaching out to a current member or leader on a committee you are interested in. She can help give insight and answer specific questions about the role to help you decide if it’s the right fit and what path you should try to take to be ready for the positions you would like to try in the future.
After February Advisor meetings and slating is completed, the online placement process begins. During the process, we ask members to rank their top four placement choices. Keep in mind, you can only choose a maximum of two choices on the same committee. For example, you can select two roles on Pumpkin Patch, but your remaining choices must come from other placements such as Active Kids and Designer Bag Bingo. Please only rank placements you have a genuine interest in completing and each member must be prepared to be placed in any of her four selected choices. It is also important to note that a Head Volunteer should be available to attend an entire event being held, and first-year Actives should not select an Assistant Head Volunteer or Provisional position.
We make every effort to try to give everyone one of their top selections, but that is not always possible. If several members express interest in the same placements, the following criteria will be used when filling positions:
❏ Attended AJLI training specifically related to requested placement
❏ Prior chairmanship
❏ Satisfactorily completing previous placements
❏ Years of service
❏ Meeting financial obligations on time
❏ Meeting attendance
If you have any questions about the Online Placement Process or placement in general, please reach out to your Advisor. You are also welcomed to contact me at thehannahalexander@ gmail.com and include “Placement” in the subject line. I would be happy to help answer any questions I can or put you in touch with the right person. Thank you for your service and I look forward to seeing the amazing ways you will grow, serve, and learn in 2024-2025!

Provenance PUMPKIN PATCH AT
Twenty-eight days, one-hundred and ninety-six volunteer hours, and several thousand pumpkins later, the 2023 Junior League Pumpkin Patch has come to an end. This year’s patch had a pumpkin for everyone, from your average gourd to baby blues and pastel pinks. I am so proud to have been a part of this fundraiser and forever grateful to all League members and those within the community who gave us their time to ensure we could ‘squash’ our goals!
We had friends from all across the Northwest Louisiana area volunteer their time (and muscles!) to help make this patch fabulous. Medical students from LSUHSC, Centenary Men’s Lacrosse, BPCC Baseball, and Camp Minden Cadets were the true heroes as they helped us unload over 3,000 pumpkins in a combined four hours. Unloading days can be long and tiresome, but these groups helped us knock that task out of the patch! Ivy B Photography, Centenary Women’s Gymnastics, Women’s Realty Council, American Medical Women’s Association, and the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux helped us host many family-oriented events throughout the month.
THANK
Emory Bray

Of course, no patch could get off the ground without the contributions of several local businesses in our community. We would like to extend our gratitude to these businesses: Sid Potts, Inc.; CHRISTUS Health; Counter Coulter; Gilmer & Giglio Criminal Defense and Personal Injury; Red River Bank; Billy B’s Cajun Grill; Wicker Construction, Inc.; Whitlock’s Plumbing Company; CSO Orthodontists, Martin Specialty Coatings, Ronpak, Inc.; and Provenance Realty Group.
I would also like to personally thank the Pumpkin Patch Committee for their dedication to the patch and ability to laugh and stay positive in the face of over 3,000 pumpkins. Working with these women made navigating this big, orange placement a breeze!
The fall reminds us to count our blessings and be thankful; the Pumpkin Patch Committee is thankful for the women of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. It is because of your servant hearts that the patch can be successful, not only this year but for many more to come!

ARTIST FOR A
Day
This was an exciting year for the Artist For A Day Committee at the Red River Revel! In the past, we focused our craft selections on four disciplines of art: visual arts, music, drama, and dance. In 2023, we shifted our perspective and focused on four individual artists, featuring differing modes of creativity and furthering the education of children we reach in regard to actual artists. Our goal was to make art as a career or hobby more accessible, relatable, and obtainable. The difficulty of each craft was able to be determined by each child, a great feature of the selected crafts that allowed inclusivity regardless of skill level. During my shifts, I noticed that each child got something a little different out of their projects, and it was exciting to see them create and excel without a boundary of what they could and couldn’t do. We rotated our crafts so that children were able to visit our tent, go view the Revel, and come back later for another visit with a different craft. This gave children who were at the Red River Revel for an extended amount of time the opportunity to experience two types of art and learn about two different artists in the same day.
The artists we featured were Jean Michel Basquiat with modeling clay, Claude Monet through creating lilies from paper, Vincent Van Gogh with self-created wax transfer impressionism, and hands-down favorite Clementine Hunter through canvas and tempera paint sticks. Each artist had examples shown of their artwork for the children to draw inspiration from, but their imaginations were the limit. We saw modeling clay masterpieces that, while the idea was for them to create their own Neo-expressionistic face of a person, morphed into tiny animals, full-figure people, and flowers, just to name a few. The paint pens that would have

Brittany House

been used to recreate Clementine Hunter’s Zinnias painting, were used to create other images that were stunning and impressive. These kids worked hard on their artwork and were able to take the crafts home immediately along with an informational card about the artist of that day.
Satisfying moments of this year’s Red River Revel Artist For A Day included not only watching the kids express themselves, but their parents participating. Traditionally, parents have stood in the background, assisted their children with the crafts, or sometimes disengaging from the activity entirely. This year, we saw more parent involvement as the parents took a seat alongside their kids and created their own versions of art. Seeing the whole family engage together, comparing crafts and ideas, in our activity was heartwarming.
Our Committee is full of amazing women; this event would not have been successful without them. Every year I’ve served on this AFAD Committee has proven to me how independently successful each woman is. The Red River Revel is not a small event, running for nine full days with a time commitment of 18-24 hours per person. The women of this Committee deserve congratulations for being able to take ideas, materials, and not only run the show with a cheerful attitude and kindness, but add their own touches and twists to improve the intended project in the moment. The Junior League of Shreveport Bossier is full of capable women, and watching a small group of high-caliber women come together to achieve a common goal has been life changing for me. In the future, Artist For A Day will be hosting a Spring Event, and from there, due to the strength of the women in the League, the possibilities are endless!

I can’t believe how fast this League year is going by! Our members have done an amazing job working fund development shifts, raising funds, and serving in community placements. We want to celebrate that hard work and recognize our members with our Leading Ladies and Volunteer of the Year awards.
Leading Ladies are nominated throughout the year for members who have gone above and beyond their position within the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. Leading Ladies are recognized in GMMs, League Links, and social media monthly. Nomination forms can be filled out on Digital Cheetah under the Resources and Member Recognition menu.
At our May end of the year celebration, we recognize our JLSB Volunteer of the Year. The Committee is asking for members to nominate a fellow Junior League of ShreveportBossier member for this award. When considering who to nominate, please keep in mind that the JLSB would like to honor to volunteer who:

LETTER FROM THE Secretary
Happy New Year! As we begin 2024, let us all take this opportunity to set a resolution to commit to serving others through volunteer activities. Our members have already been hard at work serving families through the Red Apron Pantry, mentoring young women through MAGIC, and planning a spring Artist for a Day event.
I have enjoyed seeing each of you at our General Membership Meetings (GMMs), but I cannot wait to spend a fun evening with everyone at Designer Bag Bingo. Designer Bag Bingo is the League’s primary fundraiser and supports our community efforts. Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 28, 2024 and plan to have fun with your fellow League members. This year Designer Bag Bingo will be held at Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino.
Designer Bag Bingo is an event you don’t want to miss. The evening will feature multiple rounds of bingo and fantastic raffle prizes. In addition to being a fun girls’ night out, it is also an opportunity to introduce women to our League who you think would make outstanding League members. If you have not yet fulfilled your Fund Development Shift Commitment, be on the lookout for Designer Bag Bingo shifts on Digital Cheetah.
Speaking of commitments, please remember all Active members are required to attend at least five GMMs each League year. Provisional members are required to attend five GMMs in addition to the required Provisional meeting and one Board of Directors meeting this League year. There are still plenty of opportunities to meet these obligations including a double-credit GMM in March. As a reminder, the Board of Directors meet on the first Tuesday of the month and GMMs are held on the second Tuesday of the month.

Credits are entered as accurately as possible; however, errors do occur. If you believe you are missing a credit, please reach out to me at StaceyMelerine@gmail.com.
Our website is not just a place for checking obligations, it contains information on our community projects and fun activities like Designer Bag Bingo. While you’re at it, please follow the League on social media. You can find us on Instagram at @JuniorLeagueSB or on Facebook. We also have a private membership Facebook group. If you haven’t done so, please join the private membership group to stay up to date on League events.
Our League year will culminate with the May Dinner Meeting that will be held on Tuesday, May 14. This is a time for us to come together as a League and celebrate the impact we have made on our community and recognize those members who have gone above and beyond in their service to the League. We will recognize the outgoing Board of Directors and Management Team as well as our scholarship recipients. This event is a highlight as we reflect on our accomplishments while looking ahead to our future.
Thank you for y our commitment to the JLSB! What we do makes a difference to Shreveport-Bossier. I look forward to seeing each of you at an upcoming League event!

Give for Good
Each May, thousands of people in our community help to raise money for nonprofits in North Louisiana during the 24hour giving challenge, Give for Good. This special day serves as a reminder that even small contributions can create a ripple effect of positive change and can make a huge impact. Community Foundation of North Louisiana hosts Give for Good as part of its mission to increase local philanthropy and enhance the quality of life in North Louisiana. Since its inception in 2014, Give for Good has raised over $19 million for local nonprofits. In 2023, over 8,000 gifts were made, totaling $2.75 million raised during Give for Good. Those funds went directly to 209 nonprofit organizations.
Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier is an active participant in Give for Good. We are grateful to have partnered with the Community Foundation and invested an additional $250,000 into our Endowment Fund. Each year, we plan to invest the same amount of money we receive from Give for Good into The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier’s Endowment fund. Our goal is to ensure that our organization has sustainable funding in perpetuity, so we may continue serving women, children, and families within our community.
Amanda Wadell

Give For Good allows individuals the opportunity to support causes close to their hearts. Whether it’s education, healthcare, environmental conservation, or humanitarian aid, all proceeds stay within our immediate community. The beauty of Give for Good lies in its inclusivity—everyone, regardless of financial means, can contribute to the betterment of North Louisiana.
Here are a few ways you can actively participate and make a difference:
DONATE GENEROUSLY: Whether it’s a modest sum or a more substantial contribution, every dollar counts!
SPREAD AWARENESS: Use your voice and social media platforms to raise awareness about the causes you care about.
Whether it is the JLSB, or another organization, I encourage you to choose the causes you care about most at giveforgoodnla.org. Let’s unite in giving for good on May 7 to make a lasting impact on the lives of those in need within Shreveport-Bossier.

Bingo DESIGNER BAG
We have seen some COLD temperatures lately, but be patient, spring is on the horizon and that means it’s almost time for Junior League of Shreveport Bossier’s largest and most popular fundraising event. Save the date for the 6th Annual Designer Bag Bingo on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino in downtown Shreveport. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for General Admission; however, most sponsors (see sponsorship levels) will have early access beginning at 5:00 p.m. The fun begins at 7:00 p.m. with 10 games of bingo and an incredible selection of raffle prizes being raffled off throughout the evening.
Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier’s Designer Bag Bingo pairs the fun of bingo with designer handbags as each game’s prize. All ticketholders will receive dinner, a bingo game packet (3 plays per sheet; 10 sheets for 10 rounds of bingo), and one bingo dauber (new this year!). Upon arrival, raffle tickets, additional bingo cards, and daubers will be for sale. Our event will feature nine designer handbags (over $300 value per bag) and the grand prize is an authentic Louis Vuitton handbag valued at over $1,000.
In addition to the handbags, the event will feature a raffle of various items, including spa treatments, jewelry, purses, local art, restaurant gift cards, and more. “Treat Yourself” to these raffle tickets for only $10.00 each! Designer Bag Bingo will also feature a $25.00 “Bling” raffle ticket for a chance to win a beautiful jewelry piece donated by Sid Potts, and with each raffle ticket purchased, guests will receive a special addition, a blinking ring to add to the fun for the night.
This year we welcome KTAL News Anchor & JLSB Sustainer Jacque Jovic as our emcee for the night. Whether calling numbers or keeping the handbag’s descriptions lively, her enthusiasm is sure to match that of the winners!
New this year—Sam’s Town Casino & Hotel is offering a JLSB Designer Bag Bingo room block for the night with a

Katrina Sproles

special rate of $84 per room (not including taxes) for your choice of a deluxe king non-smoking or deluxe two queen non-smoking room. All room reservations may contact Sam’s Town Casino Hotel for more information at (318) 4247777.
This event raises over $45,000 for our League each year for community projects across Shreveport-Bossier. Our committee is working hard to make this the best year yet! We are seeking new designer handbags, brands such as Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, etc., to be the winning prize for each bingo round. In addition, we are looking for donations for raffle items. Lastly, we are searching for sponsors to help make this event come to fruition. The overwhelming support from Active members and Sustainers in the past has played a major part in the event’s success. Whether you purchased a ticket, sponsored the event, donated a raffle item, or volunteered that night, we appreciate you and hope we can count on your support this year! Please contact a member if you would be interested in partnering with us.
Stay tuned to our Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier social media pages as we reveal more information on purchasing tickets, spotlight on designer handbags, and so much more! Be sure to get your ticket and get there early for the best seat! We can’t wait to see you calling out “BINGO!” and showing off that designer handbag on your shoulder as you depart for the evening!
Best Wishes,

JLSB Designer Bag Bingo Committee Chair jlsbdesignerbagbingo@gmail.com
