Founded in 1952 by John J Rhatigan, the company has been at the forefront of the construction industry while staying true to its family roots. Padraic Rhatigan became Managing Director of the company in 1981 and in 1996 branched out from Galway and commenced operating in Dublin. Since then, JJR has continued to expand into new sectors and new geographical regions with offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork, Sligo and established its London office in 2013. As an indigenous Irish Main Contractor, JJR links local experience and expertise with International best practice.

About the Role
Due to recent, continued, and future planned expansion and structural review of our business, an excellent opportunity has arisen within JJ Rhatigan & Co. for a highly motivated, focused and ambitious professional to operate at Director level.
This role will carry a high degree of autonomy and will require exceptional interpersonal, transactional, and technical skills. The role will report to the Chief Operations Officer on day-to-day management and operational matters. In addition, they will liaise with the Commercial, Corporate Services, Finance & HR.
Location: The role will be based in our Galway office.
Principal Responsibilities
• Continue to develop the brand and identity opportunities to grow the region.
• Responsible for all day-to-day supervision, control, coordination, execution of all projects under their remit.
• Monitor and report on department targets in line with objectives.
• Responsible for fostering a culture of inclusiveness and high performance within their teams.
• 5+ years of experience directly managing, mentoring, leading, and coaching professionals.
• Develop and maintain strong internal relationships ensuring there is an important level of interaction (interdependency) between Operations and Commercial.
• Provide strong leadership with the ability to challenge to safeguard the business and achieve our company objectives continuously and robustly.
• Act as the escalation point for their teams to resolve issues to ensure objectives are met.
• Responsible for the cost and control of the project ensuring that budgets are not exceeded. Identify budget risks and plans to avoid the same.
• Ensure that operations are operated in line with company IMS.
• Ensure that all operations are carried out in a technically acceptable manner and conforms to all required standards.
• Ensure all relevant processes and procedures are maintained and adhered to on the company IMS system.
• Ensure all JJR Health & Safety procedures are monitored and controlled and sites are operating in a safe manner.
• Ensure all staff are trained in the JJR QA system and quality processes adhered to.
• Ability to build collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders – Clients, Subcontractors, Consultants.
• Identifying and implementing innovations to improve delivery.
• Ensuring continuity of systems in a manner which fully complies with all legal, qualitative, health & safety and environmental standards and all other relevant guidance.
Person Specification Education
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or an equivalent engineering science OR 4+ years of related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
• Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office, and in particular Excel and PowerPoint
• Project management experience and excellent process understanding.

• Minimum of 8+ years’ relevant work experience within construction sector.

Competitive Salary
At JJR we offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and discretionary bonus plan linked to agreed KPIs.
Company Vehicle
A company vehicle is provided, if applicable for the role.
Pension
If you are interested in contributing to the company pension JJ Rhatigan & Company will match your contribution by 1.5 times from commencement. If an employee is contributing 5% of salary into the pension JJR will contribute 7.5%. The employer contribution is capped at 1.5 times up to an employee contribution of 5% only.
PHI Cover
In the unfortunate situation where a member is unable to work due to illness or disability, the monies receivable from Social Welfare would be substantially less than his / her earnings during full-time employment.
• The PHI benefit for a member is 75% of salary at the time of illness/disability less the state disability benefit. This is the maximum allowed under the legislation.
• The PHI benefit becomes payable after 26 weeks out of work due to illness/ disability and will continue in place up to the retirement age of 65.
• Employees are covered under this PHI policy from the first anniversary of commencement with the company.
Life Cover
In the unfortunate event of the death of an employee, a capital contribution would be payable to the next of kin. This lump sum payable on death is three times an employee’s annual salary. Cover will be in place until such time as the member reaches the age of 65, or until he/she leaves our employment. Employees are covered from the commencement of their employment.
Annual Leave
On commencement you are entitled to 21 annual leave days per annum. This will increase by one day after 18 months service, two days after 3 years and three days after 5 years service. In order to request a leave day, you must complete the company annual leave request online in HR Locker. This will automatically be issued to your direct line manager for approval. Once approved you will be notified by email.

Sick Leave
Employees are entitled to receive full pay for three days sick leave per annum once they have completed 13 weeks of continuous service. This is above the current statutory entitlement outlined in the Sick Leave Act 2022.
Company Mileage & Expenses
From time to time you may be required to travel as part of your role and also incur expenses. All mileage and expense claims must be submitted to the Human Resource Department on a monthly basis.. The company operates the civil service mileage rates, details of which can be found on the Revenue website.
Professional Subscriptions
We encourage employees to subscribe to professional publications relevant to their role which will be paid for by the company.
Scholarship Programme
The Scholarship Programme is in place to support employees who wish to pursue postgraduate studies and thus further their own career and development. The company provides funding to employees approved under the programme which will be deducted from the company annual training budget. Applications for the Scholarship Programme must be approved by Senior Management. Employees should submit a written request to HR, using the Scholarship Programme Application Form. If the application is approved, employees will be informed by HR. The company reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to terminate, rescind or deny the option to participate in the Scholarship Programme.
Travel Saver Scheme
JJ Rhatigan offers all employees the opportunity to avail of the Travel Tax Saver Scheme. This is a fantastic way to save on your commuter tickets, with a significant saving of up to 52%. The company will purchase your ticket and the cost will be taken from your gross salary, therefore reducing the taxable element of the salary. This facility is available following the successful completion of your probation period. Please contact Human Resources for further details on this scheme.
Maternity Leave
The company pay 50% of gross salary inclusive of state benefit. In order to qualify for paid benefit you must have at least one year’s service completed. Should you leave JJ Rhatigan‘s employment within one year of returning from maternity leave all monies paid, less social welfare benefit, must be repaid to the company.
Paternity Leave
In order to qualify for the company’s two week paid paternity leave you are required to have been employed by the company for over one year. The company reserves the right to claim the state benefit for paternity leave on your behalf.
Employee Referral Programme
The company operates and Employee Referral Programme which currently, for a limited period, offers our employees a referral bonus of €5000 per appointment. This bonus is available to all employees who refer a friend or previous colleague to JJ Rhatigan who then goes on to be successfully appointed and pass the six month probationary period.
Bike to Work Scheme
The company operates a Bike to Work Scheme facility which employees can avail of from commencement.
The company can purchase a brand new bike and safety equipment to the value of €1,250 or €1,500 for electric bikes, for their employees. The company recovers the cost of the bike from the employee using Salary Sacrifice. This means that the employee saves up to half of the retail price of the bike and equipment and your company also makes a saving of 10.75% on Employers’ PRSI contributions.
