if you think you are beaten , you are if you think you are dare not , you don’t if you like to win but you think you can’t it’s almost a cinch you won’t.
if you think you’ll lose , you’re lost for out in the world we find, success beings with a fellow’s it’s all in the state of mind.
if you think you are outclassed , you are you’ve got to think high to rise you’ve got to be sure of yourself before, you can ever win the prize.
life’s battle don’t always go to the stronger or faster man but sooner or later , the man who wins is the man who thinks he can ?
MERLIN MARY CHERIAN
It is indeed a matter of joy and privilege to greet you all in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the pages of this year’s Harvest festival souvenir. The parish is celebrating its 5th Harvest festival. The theme of the festival and Souvenir is apt “Eucharis teo” means To give Thanks. Harvest festival is a joyful celebration where all our parishioners participate and also a time to foster good friendliness and fellowship with members of other churches and friends as well.
God is the author and giver of all blessings. God has blessed us far beyond our expectations in this Diaspora. As the Deuteronomist says, “Do not say to yourself, My power and might of my own have gotten me this wealth. But remember the Lord your God, for he who gives you power to get wealth”. Deuteronomy 8:17-18.It is our God who made goodness of the land, the riches of the seas, the rhythm of the season ,the fruitfulness of our labors .Harvest is the time of thanksgiving and gratitude to God who is behind all our blessings. Gratitude is the memory of a loving heart.
All the blessings we received from God are not for our private use alone. When we are full and satisfied we cannot ignore the cry of the hungry. We should have a desire to share our best resources with others so that all those who are our neighbors may benefit from our blessings. A habit of sharing the best with others will help in creating a just world.
I do pray that this year’s Harvest Festival will provide wonderful experiences and joyous memories. Let us show the spirit of love and unity among each other which is truly a sign of Gods love. Let God our creator makes us more thankful for what we received, more content with what we have, and more generous to others.
I extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who have toiled hard to bring out this beau tiful souvenir.
Let all participate wholeheartedly and make Harvest Festival
2015-“Eucharisteo “ a great success. May God bless you and keep you in His mighty arms.
With prayers

K.A Mathew Souvenir Jt. Convenor
During our initial discussions, our Vicar Rev. Sunil A. John proposed this year’s Harvest Festival to be titled “Eucharisteo”, which means ‘to express gratitude’. Having passed 5 glorious years as St. John’s Marthoma Parish, there are plenty of reasons to express our gratitude to our God for sustaining us thus far from the very humble beginnings. Being the Souvenir Convener took me to the ‘behind the scenes’ realm of transforming a Souvenir from a decision taken at a Committee meeting to a tangible book which you are holding and hopefully appreciating. The greatest lesson I have learned through this experi ence is how important God’s grace and support from our Parish members is to make this a reality.
I convey my deepest appreciation and gratitude to our Achen Rev. Sunil. A. John, Par ish Secretary Byju Jose, Joint Convener K.M Mathew, fellow committee members, parish members who brought in advertisements and family photos, those who contributed articles, designer Mr. Jinu, office bearers, harvest committee members etc.
Except God nobody is perfect and you may come across some errors and omissions as you turn the pages. I hope that you will pardon such instances and see the brighter side of this collective effort.
I pray that this year’s harvest festival will be a blessing to all of us and you will enjoy a good day of fellowship and carry with us warm feelings and a grateful heart to God. Once again I thank God for his amazing grace. “I will praise the name of God with Song. And shall magnify with thanks giving” (Psalms 69:30)

A Recall of My Sunday School Days
Hannah Sarah Zachariah
A relationship with Jesus Christ is what changes our lives. Jesus-centred disciple ship continually invites us into that relationship which is made possible through my Sunday school days.
St John›s Marthoma Sunday School had planted in the roots of spirituality and had been a journey in which had become a friend of God. The Sunday school had also provided opportunities to showcase my talents for Gods purpose. Being a part of the music team had aroused my love for music and had filled me with energy. Every 2 hour class had a life lesson in it. Conferences, seminars, orientation classes, picnics all became a part of my life at Sunday school. It gave an exposure to various people and their thoughts. The imprint of moral values and blessings of my Heavenly father had shown me the right path to follow. It had taught me how to choose between the right and wrong.
The one week long Vacation Bible School every year made an unforgettable experience. The new songs, fun, quiz sessions, and the classes and love feast were morale. On a serious note, it was one of the VBS dedication days I had decided to opt for a profession to fulfil the will of God. In every way Sunday school had moulded the best out of me and enriched me with necessary values and in particular knowledge of the Holy Bible. In every way I am thankful to all Achenes who served the Sunday school, my beloved Sunday school Headmaster Roy sir, all teachers who had taught me through all those years....I thank my parents also who took keen interest by investing their time and helped me all these years to study in one of the best Marthoma congregation in Kuwait so that I could achieve Gods wisdom and humility in my future.
I had received my first Holy Communion from Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulose Thirumeni and I had been prepared by Rev. Genil Abraham who had given us wonderful classes to receive Jesus’s flesh and blood, sure I got more aspiration and insight in participating the Holy Qurbana just because I had been taught in the Sunday school.
I wish all success in the coming years for the St. Johns Marthoma Sunday school and I thank God Al mighty to bless all the students to succeed in their spiritual well-being and sure it will help them to lead a Godly life and receive Gods blessings throughout their career and life which I am experiencing now.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go:
And when he is old, he will not depart from it.
(Swapna Mathew)
Education is often the best tool for creating wealth and happiness. Education can help your long-term economic goals . The youth of today have a lot of problems that they have to face and many of them do not have the skills to overcome the obsta cles. Schools have the responsibility to stand up and take on these problems with their students. With the solid foundation of moral education, character education has emerged with the ability to assist students in developing strong values and morals
Kids these days have more things to worry about, distract them, and get them into trouble than any other past generation of kids have ever had; However, there will be many instances where the people, who are most involved in a youth’s life, may not know how to help or maybe too preoc cupied with their own lives to notice that a particular youth is falling through the cracks. Churches and their youth groups are also pointed to, when people ask who should be stepping forward. Unfortunately, a high majority of youth refuses to utilize or are not aware of services that various churches and their youth groups provide. So, with parents, extended families, friends, not able to provide support to a large number of youth, schools could step in and confront the issue head on. If youth are never taught morals, if they never get a good grasp of what good values really are, then it seems very plausible that they will not be capable of dealing with and avoiding the types of issues at hand.
Character education
Good character consists of knowing the good, desiring the good, and doing the good. Schools must help children understand the core values, adapt or commit to them and then act upon them in their own lives. Many are unaware that the idea of character education in schools is not a new one. This character education programs can be effective in helping students learn to make their own good deci sions without having to be told what to do. It can be helpful for schools to focus different traits into each one of these three areas. Traits such as responsibility, self-discipline, courage, and self-respect are all great value traits to focus the student on themselves and their own self-regulation. To teach traits to students that promotes healthy relations with others, schools could focus on kindness, honesty, respect, and empathy
The second key principle is that the character education is action education. This means that curriculums should involve students in discussion, reflection, and action of worthy values to be crea tive with ‟ projects available for all in the school and community. Today, things are moving a lot faster, people are busier, and families are traveling far distances for a variety of different things. A student’s home needs to be a positive environment that promotes the same values that the school is working on developing in that student
Through the support of parents, the community and the dedication of all school staff, it is this author’s s and morals. Encouraging students to take opposite points of view in discussions, allowing student, belief that character education has the capability to really make a difference in the lives of students by helping them develop a strong value system and teach them the skills to interact and survive in their society.

HEART= MIND, A Biblical perspective
1- Heart defined in the Bible- “The Word came to stand for man’s entire and moral activity, both the rational and the emotional elements
a-The seat of physical life Acts 14:17, James 5:5
b- The Seat of Moral nature and spiritual life
The seat of grief John 14:1, Romans 9:2, 2 Cori 2:4
Joy John 16:22, Ephesians 5:19, The desires Mathew 5:28, 2 Peter 2;14
The Affections Luke 24:32, Acts 21:13
The Perceptions John 12:40,Eph 4:18
The Thoughts Mathew 9:4, Hebrew 4:12
The Understanding Mathew 13:15, Romans 1:21
The Reasoning powers Mark 2:6, Luke 24:38
The Imagination Luke 1:51
Conscience Acts 2:37, 1 John 3:20
The Intensions Hebrew 4:12, 1 Peter 4:1, Purpose Acts 11:23, 2 Cor 9:7
The will Romans 6:17, Col 3:15, Faith Mark 11:23, Romans 10:10, Hebrew 3:12
The Heart, in its moral significance in the Old Testament, includes the emotions, the reason and the will 2. Heart Faith VS Head Faith- “Head Faith, Heart faith, and mind Games”
How do you convince that saving faith is not just faith in the gospel, that it includes commitment, turning from sins, perseverance in obedience, and like? Scripture that identifies saving faith other than believing the gospel hard time proving view from Bible.
The intellectual faith or head faith –The Bible teaches that the faith that truly saves is heart faith
There’s a saying ‘ Missing Heaven by eighteen inches’. It means miss heaven if you believed the gospel with your head rather than your heart. Head faith is dangerous, it suggests, because saved simply believe the facts of the gospel. Yet without heart commitment, that ‘faith’ is not saving faith at all. Heart faith raises potential problems. The commitment, turning from sins, obedience. The Biblical evidence demonstrates that this supposed distinction between head faith and heart faith is really a mind game. The scriptures never refer to the head as the source of thinking and feeling. The word head is never associated with faith in the Bible. The word head occurs approximately 330 times in the Bible. The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man and the head of Christ God. There is absolutely no biblical warrant for speaking of head faith Heart and Mind
“Thus my heart was grieved, and I was vexed in my mind (Pslam 73:21) “I will put my laws in their mind and write them on their hearts (Hebrew 8:10) ’O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken (Luke 24:25) ‘And He opened their understanding , that they might comprehend the scriptures. Jesus opened their mind that they might comprehend those scriptures.
Compare 1 Sam 2:35; Psalm 26:2; Jeremiah 11:20; 20:12; Ephesians 4:17-18 The mind is associated with believing
The mind is not viewed as being inferior to the heart in scripture. “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2), “Be renewed in the spirit of your mind (Ephesians 4:23), The mind of Christ (1 Cori 2:16), Romans 10:9-10 “Believe in your heart , Confessing with your mouth the Lord Jesus. The former is internal and latter external. The former is by faith alone. The latter includes works. Confessing with your mouth the lord Jesus is the action that involves commitment, obedience, and turning from sins, not ‘believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead’. Nor is believing with your heart defined as some special kind of faith that might rightly be called heart faith

No shortcuts to…. SUCCESS….
We have all been raised by our parents with perhaps the most important word in the family being ..’success’; along with frequent phrases and sentences added to the family conver sation regarding how can we become successful..what is the formula another kid follows to be successful etc. Added to this, advice from our teachers like..’try, try, till you succeed!
The next you see yourself , as an anxious teenager or as an young adult is trying to skim through pages of autobiographies of famous men who made their mark in history or easier still ..googling it up.
All frustrated from endless thoughts, questions; one still finds no answers. Only sleepless nights getting one into being a peaceless individual. To get away one can resort to comic books, video games, online games etc. Yet, the haunting truth still remains…deep down in the heart.
I remember few lines from a poem my English teacher had taught me in Std. VIII..the lines read.. ‘Success is counted sweetest by those who neer succeed. To comprehend a nectar requires sorest need…” In colloquial language it means only the bee who needs nectar has the deepest desire for the same. It is only the loser who understands the value of the trophy held in the hands of the winner.
Now for the question: How can one become successful?
The Bible takes us through a journey of men who lived through failures, endured hardships and lived by His grace. Grace is undeserved merit. When our life is filled with grace, we will endure the different phases of our life. Success is not to be measured by the world’s yardstick, but God’s plan in our lives. As teenagers and young adults develop a relationship with your savior; cling on to Him like a baby; hold on to Him. All your desires may or may not be fulfilled but commit your ways to the Lord. Surrender to your savior, crave to be a child of God. Hold on to the angel of peace in a peaceless world. The Lord your God will definitely make you successful.. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. . accept Him as your personal saviour. The world has nothing much to offer, but Christ has. The love on the cross will transform your heart and renew your spirit. You cannot be deceived by the evil. Be assured in your faith in Christ Jesus, your Jehovah Jireh – Your provider.
May God bless you.

PERSONAL SIGNIFICANCE OF HARVEST FESTIVAL
Abundant crops have always been humanity’s most coveted prize, the supreme signal of good fortune, so almost every society has devised a special ceremony to express grati tude for its autumn stockpile of nourishment.
In the Old Testament God commands the Israelites to celebrate the festival of harvest. Exodus 23:16, states “Celebrate the Festival of Harvest with the first fruits of the crops you sow in your field…”
For most of us who live the urban life, the concept of harvest tends to get blurred. One can just go to a su permarket to find any food we want any time we want it. We forget how precious it is to have a good harvest, food to secure survival through the dark time of the year. But the notion of harvest in the New Testament age continues to remain significant to all of us irrespective of the nature of society we live in. In the New Testament harvest festival assumed deeper meaning when many of Christ’s teachings used agricultural analogies to help illustrate spiritual truths.
Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together’” (John 4:31-36).
Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, was calling His disciples then and now to work in His great spiritual harvest that results in eternal life.
But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. (1 Corinthians 15:20)
The first fruits of the physical harvest were the first grains and fruits to ripen. They were offered to God (Exodus 23:19). By analogy, Jesus Christ is the perfect spiritual first fruits and the first to be resurrected to eternal life. As we celebrate this year’s Harvest Festival, I pray that each one of us comprehends the wider vision of God’s plan for humanity in general and us in particular and not limit it to a mere day of celebration.
With every deed you are sowing a seed, though the harvest you may not see.

My memories of Sunday School
Dr. Anu Mariyam
A man’s life is divided into many phases; infancy, childhood, young adulthood, and adulthood. For a person whose average life expectancy is 70 years, he goes through 25,550 days, each day being a new one, filled with new experiences, some of which are good, others being sad or tough ones. Each one becomes a memory, which we hold onto and cherish. Childhood is an important phase in a person’s life; a period when we are taught to recognize right from wrong, when we are instilled with moral values by those around us. All these mold us into the person who we are today.
One of my fondest memories from my childhood is going to Sunday school, and enjoying the wor ship sessions, the songs, and going to our classes to learn God’s words and listening to interesting stories from the Bible that our Sunday school teachers taught us. Even though the bus ride to Sun day school was blazing hot, Bobby uncle and the rest of the choir members would always come up with great songs and dances to cool our hearts. Even though when I was younger, I didn’t really understand all the Bible verses I had to memorize, the scriptures I had to read before classes, eve rything made sense when I grew up and started living in the world on my own. Whenever I experi ence some kind of tribulation in life, there is a voice in my mind that recites the verses that I once learned as a child that was lost somewhere in my memory. All the lessons I learned from Sunday school, and the stories of the different biblical characters that I had to read about, have been the guiding light in my life. The lessons I learned from Sunday school and the advices I got from my Sunday school teachers, headmasters and Achens, have helped me make better decisions in life. Even though I don’t get as much time as I would like to spend reading the Bible every day, I try to find time as much as I can, and continue to grow in the word of the Lord. Let me quote the words of an Achen who said this to me when we were in Sunday school “All of us have busy lives, and even though we don’t remember each other’s names, let us try to pray for each other; though not always, but at least sometimes.”
