Program Notes
When you think of a King, there is the pomp, glory and all that accompanies the royal splendor. The King, who his subjects praise and of his glory sing. To God they would pray for his wellbeing. All said, we are certainly talking of an earthly king. Now think of a king wherein all we had imagined was definitely not in the offering.
Far from the revelry of a royal birth, his birth had all the elements of a certain suffering. From His birth in a manger that would also house livestock offspring, to his so very normal upbringing. His earthly father, a carpenter and his mother choosing to be humble instruments in this great and glorious story that God was writing. Yes, a king was being born into a family wherein society couldn’t offer a place for the mother or the child in swaddling clothes. Where does the glory lie in this story you would think? Robbed of all nobility and splendor was the lot for this king, so unlikely if it were an earthly king.
But God so loved the crown of His creation, mankind and their salvation was paramount to Him. God essayed the most beautiful intervention into history; The King of Kings would definitely have none of the glory attributed to an earthly King. If more or less of mankind missed the story then, a few innocent women and men along with nature, definitely played their roles in this seemingly not so glorious outing. From the shining star, to the shepherds watching, to the wise men coming, to the angels in the highest singing, they indeed saw the glory in this new little tiny thing. They believed and knew that from the depths of the oceans to the highest of heavens this king would have His Kingdom extending. In the face of that little one shining, the love of a heavenly father for us, the human kind was now showing. The Glory of Christmas was finally here in our World!
Men’s Voice and Choral Society, Kuwait have been the perennial bearers of heralding this glorious season since their founding. Of all the carols that would you be listening through the season, theirs will set the festivity rolling. From timeless and soulful anthems to leg tapping numbers, from songs that serenade to acapellas that reverberate, cutting across English and Malayalam, this talented ensemble of singers and musicians from year to year have us celebrating and enjoying.
This year the seventeenth edition of our carols, We, the Men’s Voice and Choral Society humbly present The Glory of Christmas. May this year’s songs paint the most vivid and colorful Christmas, a Christmas wherein you see that little boy laying in that manger, is indeed our glorious King. We pray and wish that our offering brings you the joy, peace, hope and good tidings of this season. May the glory and awe of Christmas, the newest tidings that a new year brings be yours for the taking. May the King of Glory be celebrated through The Glory of Christmas and through each one of our lives.
We wish you the best of this wonderful season.

ABIDE
WITH
ME (Men’s Voice & Choral Society)
Lyrics by Henry F. Lyte, 1820 Music by William H. Monk, 1861
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me.
I need Thy presence every passing hour; What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. Amen .

HOW SHOULD A KING COME?
(Men’s Voice & Choral Society)
Words and Music by Jimmy and Carol Owens
Arr. by - Jay Rouse
How should a king come?
Even a child knows the answer of course, In a coach of gold with a pure white horse!
In a beautiful city in the prime of the day;
And the trumpets should cry and the crowds make way!
And the flags fly high in the morning sun
And the people all cheer for sovereign one!
And everyone knows that’s the way that its done.
That’s the way that a king should come.
How should a king come ? Even a commoner understands
He should come for his treasures and His houses and lands!
He should dine upon summer strawberries and milk
And sleep upon bed clothes of satin and silk! And high on a hill His castle should glow With the lights of the city like jewels below! And everyone knows that’s the way that its done. That’s the way that a king should come.
On a star filled night into Bethlehem, Rode a weary woman and a worried man. And the only sound in the cobble stone street Was the shuffle and the ring of their donkey’s feet.
And a King lay hid in a virgin’s womb, And there were no crowds to see Him come.
At last in a barn, in a manger of hay. He came, and God incarnate lay!
And the angels cried, Glory, Glory to God! Earth was silent so heaven rang! Glory, Glory to God!
Men were silent so the angels sang! Glory, Glory to God! Peace on earth! Good will to men! Glory, Glory to God!
Christ is born in Bethlehem! Glory to God! Glory in the highest! (2)

Silent Night (Men’s Voice & Choral Society)
Lyrics by Joseph Mohr Composed by Franz Gruber
Silent night, Holy night, All is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin, mother and child Holy infant, tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace,
Silent night, Holy night
Son of God, love's pure light Radiant beams from thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord at thy birth Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
Silent night, Holy night Shepherds quake, at the sight Glories stream from heaven a far Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah. Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.
