November is a great time to take a moment and reflect on the blessings in your life. We all get so busy and caught up in the day to day activities of our existence that we forget to slow down to enjoy and be grateful for what we have. Life is so precious we need to enjoy each moment. To be present and aware that these moments are, for now, all we have.

With the birth of our family’s first grandchild, Rowan Taylor Citlali Lopez, we are especially blessed this year. She just discovered her feet and made her first giggles! The only drawback is she lives in Williston ND. My son Gerik has moved beyond the local school system this year now that he has turned 21. He works 3 days a week at Trellis, a Vocational Program located in Badger Pocket. He has such a great spirit and is surrounded by people who care a great deal about his success. As you might know, Gerik has classic autism.

I have been blessed with an incredible, understanding wife who gives so much support to me and our children as well as those in our community with children of special needs as the Parent to Parent coordinator of Kittitas County.

Jerrol’s Real Life Wonder

This year’s 2017 Holiday Book Catalog is tucked in with your newsletter.

I was born with a rare disease called Lymphatic Malformation (LM). LM is a build-up of lymph fluid in your lymph nodes.

It is full of all kinds of ideas for you and those on your shopping list.

I have had over 30 surgeries in my short 24 years. As a result I had a tracheotomy that forced air into my lungs to help me breathe, and a g-tube to feeding. I always joke and say that I had the super power of being able to eat and sleep at the same time.

We have all of these books on display in the store to check out.

One tip you might try is to leave the catalog out during Thanksgiving and take notes on what books people find interesting.

All at this “Ladies” only annual Holiday event hosted by Knudson Lumber at 1791 Vantage Hwy. There will be prize giveaways every 15 minutes, specials from us, Knudson’s and other select local businesses. The also have wine, food and lots of demonstrations. It’s a great way to kick off the holiday season and it’s FREE!!

Growing up different than other kids was tough. I’m not lying when I tell you that I had no friends. Kids avoided me like the plague. I remember in 5th grade I ran for class president. After I delivered my speech, I called my grandma. She asked me “how did it go sweet pea?” My response “they laughed at me grandma” while sobbing on the phone. In middle school I ate lunch in the bathroom stall because I didn’t have a place to sit or any friends to sit with. I felt safe within the four walls of that stall but it was extremely lonely.

I recently heard about the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio and immediately knew I had to read it. I was both heartbreaking and happy. “Wonder” gave me a chance to reflect back on my life and see the similarities between my story and August Pullman's story.

I have started speaking at schools to raise awareness of the book and the “Choose Kind” project. My first visit was to Hillcrest Elementary in Lake Stevens.

The experience was indescribable. Never have I gotten such a warm welcome at a school and so many kids eager to be my friend. It was truly an amazing experience that I will never forget. Go to http://tinyurl.com/ybg2fmuf to read an article by the Everett Herald on my visit.

My plan is to continue to visit schools and speak with the kids about my story and the “Choose Kind” project. I have several schools booked over the next couple months. I hope telling my story gives kids the confidence they need to #ChooseKind.

The Book of Dust Phillip Pullman $22.99 Malcolm Polstead is the kind of boy who notices everything but is not much noticed himself. And so perhaps it was inevitable that he would become a spy....

Malcolm's parents run an inn called the Trout, on the banks of the river Thames, and all of Oxford passes through its doors.

Malcolm and his daemon, Asta, routinely overhear news and gossip, and the occasional scandal, but during a winter of unceasing rain, Malcolm catches wind of something new: intrigue.

He finds a secret message inquiring about a dangerous substance called Dust--and the spy it was intended for finds him.

When she asks Malcolm to keep his eyes open, he sees suspicious characters everywhere: the explorer Lord Asriel, clearly on the run; enforcement agents from the Magisterium; a gyptian named Coram with warnings just for Malcolm; and a beautiful woman with an evil monkey for a daemon. All are asking about the same thing: a girl--just a baby--named Lyra.

Lyra is the kind of person who draws people in like magnets. And Malcolm will brave any danger, and make shocking sacrifices, to bring her safely through the storm.

It is perfect of ages 13-17 and up!!

Want something cozy on your table this November? Try these custom made candles. I have never made candles before and decided to call it “candle melting” instead. It’s super easy. I loved choosing my containers and adding my favorite smells!

Here’s what you need: 1. Wax (I used a block of wax from the store and some leftover candles I had around the house) 2. Wicks 3. Fun metal or glass containers 4. Double boiler (I used a pan and a clean can) 5. Essential oil or scent pack First clean and dry your containers. You can use just about anything, just nothing plastic.

Next melt your wax. I heated some water in a pan and used a clean food can to hold the wax in the hot water. Cut the wax block into smaller pieces (or cut up your old candles and pull out the old wicks) and add them to the can. It takes a good 20 -30 minutes to melt so be patient. Make sure to not leave it unattended.

Take your wick and dip it into the melted wax and put it in the center of your container. The wax will act like glue and keep your wick in place. Next secure the top of your wick to the top of your container. I wrapped mine around a chop stick.

Pour your melted wax, carefully, into your container.

Now is the fun part. Add some scent. We do have scent packs in the store you can add but I decided to use my favorite essential oils, lavender and rosemary. I used about 50 drops of each. I also tried fabric softener. Be creative, you might just come up with something amazing.

Let the wax dry for 24 hours and trim the wick. If the top is not smooth or even sunken in (like mine), just use a hairdryer to remelt the top a little.

Now light your candle, grab a book and enjoy!
