You’re probably all packed up & ready for life in the ‘Burg! Here are a couple phrases and words you’ll hear a lot around town:
· “Eburg/ the ‘Burg” are just other names for Ellensburg.
· “Local” strictly means someone born & raised here.
· “Wind” means gusts more than 35 MPH… a breeze does not mean windy.
· Also don’t actually say the “W word” (wind) out loud. It’s a local supers on.
· “People’s Pond” is what college students call Carey Lake– it’s a nice spot to hangout on sunny days.
are exits 109 & 106 that take you into town
· “Upper County” refers to the Cle-Elum/ Roslyn area
· If you’re from the west side of WA, “east side” no longer refers to Bellevue/Redmond. It’s now anything east of Snoqualmie Pass. You might hear some of us refer to it as “The Coast”
Ellensburg is the exact geographic center of the state. There is a marker indica ng the “exact” spot where Washington’s geographic bull’s-eye is located. For those who want to check out the marker, it’s next to Shaw-Smyser Hall, located on Wildcat Way, just off University Way one block east of Jerrol’s.
Jerrol’s is on the 47th Parallel-
