And You Should Too…..

It is officially Fall and I could not be happier! Summer is finally behind us with all of its sunshine and warm weather so now we can look forward to freezing cold days filled with clouds, fog and best of all SNOW! While I am told that not everyone is as enamored with the idea of the pending winter and all it holds for us, I think there are a few things about fall and winter we should all be able to agree on.

Little Free Library

Book Signing Rachael J. Brown Saturday, October 22nd 1:30 pm—3 pm

The Morning Rotary club installed their 12th Little Free Library at Jerrol’s last month. We are happy to be providing one more source where people can access books and discover reading.

Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Their mission is to be a catalyst for building communities, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries.

FREE Watercolor Product Demonstration With Cheryl Renee Long Saturday, November 5th 2 pm—3 pm

Watercolor artist and instructor Cheryl Renee Long will be back at Jerrol’s on Saturday, November 5th and this time she is going to be demonstrating specific watercolor products instead of creating a painting.

She will share techniques and provide ideas on how to use them. Plans are still developing so stay tuned.

Rachael Jenison Brown grew up in Ellensburg and attended University of Washington graduating with a degree in Geography. She, her husband and two kids have lived in Alaska, Hawaii and most recently, California.

Rachael earned her Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate through the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and eCornell, and is excited to share about the benefits of going plant-based on both our bodies and our planet. She is will be at Jerrol’s to share her new book, For Fork's Sake: A Quick Guide to Healing Yourself and the Planet Through a Plant-Based Diet in her hometown of Ellensburg, the place she still considers 'home'. Adopt a Kid BTS Drive is a Success!

Craft of the Month Gnome Garland

Court Advocates for Children joined with us in August and September for a Back to School Supply Drive to serve all the school-aged children in Kittitas County. Your generosity was overwhelming. You donated over $600 in gift cards and close to 100 kids bags were filled by you.

These went to kids served by Court Advocates, APOYO (A local food bank) The Stan Bassett Youth Center and schools in Kittitas County.

Have you noticed that gnomes are everywhere? They're so cute, and I couldn't resist making some Halloween ones to keep up with the trend.

Court Advocates for Children, a non-profit organization that supports and promotes courtappointed volunteer advocacy so every child in Kittitas County who has experienced abuse or neglect has a safe, permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive, hosted a Back-to-School supply drive to provide new backpacks and school supplies not only for the children they serve but all children in need throughout Kittitas County. On any given day, there are nearly seventy-five children and youth in foster care in Kittitas County.

We provide trained independent volunteers who promote and advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the justice system of Kittitas County. We envision a community that is aware of and committed to the efforts of Court Advocates to secure a safe, permanent, and loving home for abused and neglected children in Kittitas County. White/Cream colored yarn String Felt Hot glue gun Wooden beads Comb 1. Start by choosing your felt colors for the hats. Cut out circles (I traced a cup) and cut each one in half. Fold the corners of each half circle in and glue with hot glue to make a cone shape. I made 20 hats per garland.

2. Next, take your yarn and make 20 tassels. Wrap yarn around your 4 fingers 30 times. Take a small piece of yarn and tie a knot around it. Take the yarn off your fingers and cut the loops opposite the knot. To make a tassel you would tie another string around these strings...but DON'T. Instead take some string, make a loop and tie it around the middle of your yarn to make a loop for hanging.

3. Take your hats and pull the loop of string through the top of the hat. (Use tweezers to pull through the hole if you need to) Attach the hat to the yarn using hot glue.

4. (Optional) Take your comb and comb out the yarn to make it stringier. Then trim it with scissors into a beard shape. This step is time consuming, but also very satisfying.

5. Attach a wooden bead under the brim of each hat with some hot glue.

6. Pull out 6-7 feet of string for your garland. Tie a gnome every couple inches of your string.

7. Hang across your mantle, start a fire and read a book. Enjoy!
