Jerro ’ Creative

I’m so excited about this new series we’re doing at Jerrol’s! You may have seen our first “Jerrol’s Crea ves” when we featured Sophia’s quirky and fun homemade jewelry. This month, in honor of Mother’s Day, we’re highligh ng the matriarch of Jerrol’s, Miss Anne e! Anne e is Rolf’s mom and Amy’s grandma. Anne e married Jerry, the son of Jerrol’s founders, Don and Irene. Easy peasy, right? Don’t worry, there’s no quiz at the end. Although, if you’d like to learn more about the history of our store, we have a book recommenda on for you! I had the pleasure of si ng down in Anne e’s home art studio recently to talk to her about how she likes to get crea ve.

Everyone has something to teach us and to contribute to our business and personal lives.

People who are different from us are way more interesting than people who are like us.

We learn new and interesting things from other backgrounds, cultures, life experiences.

Anne e started with calligraphy and making custom gree ng cards for all her kids and grandchildren. She eventually tried working with watercolor and that’s what she con nues to do today.

Anne e has been pain ng for several decades now, star ng in the ninees, when she stopped working at Jerrol’s and had a li le more free me.

She’s mostly self-taught, although she did take a class or two in the beginning. I men oned that I’d love to paint more, but I don’t have any natural talent. Her advice was basically, who cares about “natural talent” and I love that! All that ma ers is that you love what you’re doing!

Anne e was kind enough to send me off with a sweet print for my home gallery wall. So, if your keeping score, I have a custom bracelet from Sophia and now a custom pain ng from Anne e! I could get used to this!

Hopefully this inspires you to go ahead and scratch that crea ve itch! And be sure to check in with us next month to find out who our next “Jerrol’s Crea ve” is.

"Hooked" Crocheted Animal

Have you ever crocheted before? I remember my first s tch was when I was in college. We visited a neighborhood in Mexico once a week and worked in a medical clinic. Our teacher taught us to crochet blankets for the children we visited. I've been "hooked" ever since.

Jessica, who finds Jerrol’s all of our art and cra supplies recently brought some great crocheted animal kits. So, I decided to try one!

(Actually I passed it off to Lex, the famous Jerrol's crochet expert) She made the piglet and it turned out so cute.
