INTRODUCTION

The New Orleans Brass Band tradition has influenced nearly all genres of music including traditional and modern jazz, rock, country, funk and hip-hop. The sound is built entirely of brass instruments: ensembles include brass, woodwind instruments and a percussion section. Brass band music is often referred to as music of the streets and the music of the people. It speaks to the diverse cultural roots of New Orleans and can be heard at second lines, weddings and festivals. Brass band music is passionate, vibrant, exciting and it speaks to the soul and makes everyone move their feet. The New Orleans Original Brass Festival was founded to celebrate the culture and legacy of New Orleans music and its people. It is the first of many events to fund the Non-Profit Organization “Save Our Brass Culture Foundation” which was created to give opportunities for elder and retired local musicians a way to provide income for their families. Save Our Brass Foundation will provide teaching and mentor jobs in the Brass Music community (schools, local jails, and churches). This organization was created by musicians and for musicians The event will kick off with a very special Brass Jazz Memorial Tribute honoring brass band musicians who are now deceased, such as Lionel “Uncle Lionel” Batiste, Anthony “Tuba Fats” Lacen,”Dinneral Shavers, Arian Macklin and many more.

ERSEL “GARFIELD” BOGAN III & JEVON BOGAN FOUNDER & CO- FOUNDER

Garfield is a New Orleans native born and raised in the 9th Ward. He is a graduate of John F. Kennedy H.S and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) where he studied Jazz and music theory. He is one of the original members of the Stooges Brass Band, where he spent 17 years of music career. Stooges was the house band for BET Sunday’s Best , Super Bowl XLVII, and the New Orleans Pelicans.

DORIAN FRANCIS PRODUCER

Dorian Francis was appointed as the Production Manager of Gechar, Inc in 2009. Clients include BET and The ESSENCE Festival, he manages the ESSENCE Empowerment Experience. Prior to, he served as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Talent Packet Coordinator Director/R&B consultant.

Demetrius is the CEO of JE Marketing Group LLC, a marketing firm based in the New Orleans area. Where his team has worked on various local festivals . He is an US Air Force veteran, which during his active duty time he was able to travel and live abroad. He spent time in Italy, South Korea, Germany, and the Middle East.

KaTrina Chantelle Griffin is an accounting, nursing and business professional with more 18 years’ experience in the banking, medical, non-profit and education industries. KaTrina owns K Chantelle Consulting Firm, a firm specializing in business strategic planning, training and accounting practices, policies and procedures. Her clients are throughout the Southern Coast

Brings over 20 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Chef Gary had the privileged of working side by side with chefs like: Paul Prudhomme, John Folse, Emeril Lagasse, Charlie Trotter, Norman Van Akin, and Dickie Brennan. This experience has also allowed him the honor to cook for two presidents of the United States, multiple celebrities, major festivals, Food Network, and many more

Who We Are Save Our Brass Culture Foundation is a non-profit that provides education, resources and support to musicians. We advocate for musicians rights and provide programs to assist musicians in their musical careers. We assist all ages of musicians through every facet of their musical career while providing health, retirement and life insurance (i.e. 401k plan, health, vision and dental benefits, etc.). We teach the culture of brass instruments to our youth in schools, jails, and churches. The our mission is to unionize the brass community to create more events, workshops, and mentorship programs to improve resources for the Brass Band community.
