Rainshields General information Our prime goal was to achieve a very simple solution for an old, well known problem in the world of tanks, i.e. external corrosion of tankbottoms. Talking to major terminal owners on this problem we introduced a proven solution that not only pre- vents rainwater but also condensation water in humid environments to flow under the tankbottom. The big advantage is the creation of a dry environment under the tank.

Simple and easy installation Cut your maintenance budget Maximum flexibility Ventilation and easy inspection The technique used for the installation of the rainShield based mainly on working with adhesive TCPP foils by gluing them both to the tank wall and to the tank foundation. Practically no “hot-work” is involved therefore it has great advantages against other solutions in hazardous areas. No adjustments and/or alternations to the tank or its foundation are required. Keeping rain- or condensation water away from the tankbottom will certainly have an impact on your maintenance budget because of the reduction of external corrosion on the bottom. It’s proven that 75% of all bottom penetrations is caused by external corrosion. The rainshield extends the lifetime of your tanks and therefore your maintenance budget by 10 to 30%. 99% of all tanks are on soil, which means continuously settling of the tanks due to the operational levels in the tanks and movement of the shells to a certain extend. The advantage of a rainshield is that it follows every deformation of the tank and its foundation even further then permitted.

A dryer environment in the bottom area of a tank is the result of the rainshield. The portholes in the rainshield makes ventilation possible creating condensate and humidity can evaporate on a natural way. The same holes also make it easy to acces the annular ring for inspection of the cornerweld, tank measuring and other labor or inspections.

Rainshields Technical specification The Rain-Shield is made from TCPP foils. Our foils are of a polypropylene base, which is modified to be gluable to steel, concrete, and/or other materials. The chemical-, biogradation-, and UV resistant is high. Even after long periods of time it remains its properties, TCPP has no solvents.

Environmental Stress Cracking (ECS) resistance Semi-cristalline plastics such as HDPE have a relatively low resistance for ECS. Even in the smaller load case situations a mixture of surface active substances can cause ECS. A high resistance for ECS is required for geo-membranes.
