Dear Esteemed Members,

It is with great pleasure and pride that I extend warm greengs to each and every one of you as the Editor-in-Chief of our esteemed South West region. As we navigate through the intricacies of community engagement and impacul iniaves, I am delighted to share some of the remarkable stories and accomplishments that have shaped our region in recent mes.

Over the past months, our dedicated members have demonstrated unwavering commitment and passion towards creang posive change in our communies. From organizing impacul projects to fostering meaningful partnerships, our efforts have truly made a difference in the lives of those we serve. Our region has been at the forefront of promong health and wellness awareness, entrepreneurship, leadership and the likes, conducng numerous campaigns and workshops to educate and empower individuals and through strategic collaboraons with like-minded organizaons and stakeholders, we have been able to amplify the impact of our projects and reach a wider audience.

I would like to express my hearelt gratude to all our members who have contributed relessly to the success of these iniaves. Your dedicaon, passion, and hard work are truly commendable, and I am immensely proud to be part of such an inspiring and dynamic team.

As we look towards the future, I encourage each and every one of you to connue sharing your ideas, insights, and experiences with us. Dear esteemed members,

As we step into the second quarter of the year, I want to extend my warmest welcome to all our esteemed members and reflect on the past month's memorable events. The 2024 JCI Nigeria Southern Conference, held from April 18th to April 21st in the vibrant city of Uyo, has le an indelible mark on our collecve experience.

The conference, which drew over 200 members from various parts of the country, was graced by the presence of the Internaonal Vice President of JCI assigned to Nigeria, Rosemary Mothuso from Botswana, and the JCI Nigeria President, JCIN Amb. Sandra Ekene Efemuaye, adding a global and naonal perspecve to our discussions and acvies.

One of the highlights of the Southern Conference was the diverse range of training sessions offered, including workshops on Speak Like a Boss, emoonal intelligence, and an Entrepreneurship masterclass. These sessions saw significant parcipaon from our members, aligning with JCI's mission to empower young leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to posively impact their communies.

Feeding during the conference was not just a necessity but an opportunity for networking and camaraderie. Each mealme provided a plaorm for members to engage in meaningful conversaons, exchange ideas, and forge new connecons.

In addion to the enriching training sessions, the conference also featured a variety of recreaonal acvies to foster team building and relaxaon.

From board games to swimming acvies to pares and the likes, because truly “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”.

The climax of the conference was the award ceremony, where outstanding individuals and local organizaons were recognized for their contribuons and achievements. It was a moment of celebraon and inspiraon as we applauded the dedicaon and hard work of our members in driving posive change within our organizaon and beyond.

The Southern Conference would not have been successful without you. You made it work.

The highly ancipated 2024 Southern Conference, fondly dubbed IsongOwongo, marked the commencement of an unforgeable journey. The vibrant city of Uyo set the stage for an immersive experience that promised to leave a lasng impression on all who aended. Sandra Ekene Efemuaye hosted a momentous occasion where the esteemed leader of JCI Nigeria under the leadership of the Naonal President JCIN Sandra Ekene Efemuaye warmly welcomed everyone and set the tone for the days ahead. With a spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose, parcipants embarked on this extraordinary journey, ready to learn, grow, and make meaningful contribuons to their communies and beyond. Day 2

- Aerobics

Day 2 of the electrifying 2024 Southern Conference, IsongOwongo, burst into acon with a burst of energy and enthusiasm as parcipants kicked off the day with an invigorang aerobics session. With each team bringing their A-game, the atmosphere crackled with determinaon and vitality as delegates rallied to revitalize their fitness prowess.

Aerobics isn't just about breaking a sweat; it's a dynamic fusion of movement and music that elevates both body and spirit. As parcipants stretched, twisted, and lunged to the rhythm, endorphins surged, boosng mood and movaon for the day ahead. Beyond the physical benefits, aerobics enhances cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and improves flexibility, laying the foundaon for a vibrant and resilient body.

During the aerobic session, bonds were forged, and friendship flourished, creang a sense of unity and shared purpose among parcipants. Energized and empowered, delegates emerged from the aerobics session ready to tackle the challenges and harness the opportunies that lie ahead.

The First-Timers Briefing session served as a vital plaorm for both exisng members and prospecve ones who were stepping into the vibrant world of the Southern Conference for the first me. It provided a comprehensive educaon on the core principles and values of JCI, meculously outlined in our constuon. Moreover, it was a springboard, propelling aendees to gear up for a series of impacul events that awaited them throughout the conference.

At the just concluded 2024 JCI Nigeria Southern Conference tagged #IsongEnwongo 2024, we had tailored training sessions designed for our delegates to transform their leadership potenals and career trajectories to meet the demands of the labour market.

We had an array of disnguished seasoned facilitators and industry leaders who impacted the knowledge and shared the best pracces with our delegates held at the Watbridge Hotel, Uyo on the 19th of April, 2023, each training session lasng for 1 hour 30 minutes including engagements, quesons and answers from the parcipants.

Parcipants were acvely engaged through group discussions, interacve acvies and praccal acvies. At the end of the training sessions, parcipants beer understood all the training topics and aconable strategies to use the lessons learned in real-life situaons.

Surveys were conducted aer the training sessions to get feedback from the parcipants on ways the skills development team could do beer, about 80% of the parcipants menoned they were amazed and fulfilled with the sessions given past experiences and requested for more me to be allocated to training for more insighul engagements.

'Learning never exhausts the mind' and we look forward to more engaging and insighul training at all other conferences at the Area and Naonal levels.

Join Us in Our Journey

In a significant stride towards enhancing educaon and fostering sustainable development, Baobab+ has joined forces with JCI Abeokuta Hills to bring solar lighng to schools in Ogun State. This iniave aims to revitalize the reading culture among secondary school students and create a conducive learning environment.

The "Unleash A Child's Potenal Project" was launched at Bapst Girls' College Idi Aba on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The project is in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 7." The project had in aendance the CEO of Baobab+ Nigeria Mr Kola Osinowo, the CCO Mr Kolawole Oguntuase dignitaries and representaves from the Ministry of Educaon, Associaon of Secondary Student Teachers, Ogun State, the President of the Bapst Girls Alumni Associaon to

menon a few.

This project is in line with the SEE agenda that's focused on Strategic partnerships and Sustainable Projects.

Our efforts were focused on fostering entrepreneurship, raising awareness about mental health, and providing professional development opportunies for our members.

SME Bootcamp Project Launch:

We kicked off the month with the virtual launch of our SME Bootcamp Project. This iniave is designed to equip SME owners with the necessary tools for success in today's challenging economic landscape.

Our opening ceremony featured a thought-provoking discussion on "Posioning for Growth and Sustainability in the Face of the Current Economy," led by President Anuoluwapo Ajala and Vice President Dolapo Oyeleke.

Addionally, we hosted a virtual training session conducted by Ayo-Bankole Akintujoye, focusing on the reasons behind small business failures. The project will connue in the coming months with mentorship development opportunies for parcipants.

Mental Health Awareness Campaign - Phase II:

Connuing our commitment to mental health awareness, we partnered with for the JCI ASO second phase of our campaign tled "Save a Soul." To engage our members and the community, we organized a "Health Walk for Mental Health" at Jabi Park, Abuja. The event was well-aended and brought together disnguished members from both JCI chapters, including 2005 Naonal President JCI Sen Anifowose Kelani and 2023 Naonal President JCI Sen. Aairu B. Abdullahi.

April Skill-Up Weekend:

Our monthly tradion of Skill-Up Weekend connued in April, providing invaluable learning opportunies for our members. JCI Senator Temi Alade-Mustapha led a session on , while 2023 Naonal President JCI Sen "Developing a strong saving culture"

Aairu B. Abdullahi shared insights on "Stakeholder Engagement and the Power of Emoonal Intelligence in People Management".

These acvies represent our ongoing commitment to personal and professional development, community engagement, and making a posive impact in our society.

Project 1: Mental Health Awareness

The Mental Health Awareness Project was a joint collaboraon between JCI Connental Lagos and JCI Aso which was divided into 3 phases.

The 2 phases which have been done in previous months were;

Phase 1: A virtual session for both Local Organisaon members on mental health lecture

Phase 2: A 9km health walk held through Jabi Lake/Park, Abuja to create awareness of mental health

The 3rd phase was executed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre by counseling the inmates, providing free dental services, distribung toiletries such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, donang of educaonal books and clothing, and having one-on-one counseling sessions on mental health issues.

A total of 96 inmates were present at the Mental Health Awareness Presentaon and 62 inmates registered for the dental checkup and 10 had private counseling.

Project 2: SME Mentorship Program

The SME Mentorship Program is designed to assist over 30 SMEs with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary for business success with the primary goal of establishing sustainable mentor-mentee relaonships.

Sub-divided into three phases, the first and second phases which entail applicaon and onboarding, engagement, and training were completed in previous months.

For the third phase, assessments were carried out and successful mentees made it to the next stage of the program. We delegated mentees to their mentors and the program kicked off, with general classes to educate mentees and weekly assessments to monitor the progress of the program and handle related concerns efficiently.

Successful mentees (10) who completed the program will be presented to the General assembly in our next physical business meeng and allow them to pitch their Business for support.

Project 3: JCI Connental Lagos May

Skill Up

Weekend

The May Skill Up Weekend was held virtually and featured two insighul sessions aimed at enhancing our members' knowledge and capabilies in key areas relevant to their professional growth.

Session 1: Product Development

The first session, focusing on Product Development, was a comprehensive exploraon of the processes involved in creang and launching successful products.

Parcipants were engaged in interacve discussions, and the session equipped aendees with the knowledge needed to start a career in product development.

Session 2: Digital Markeng for Business

The second session centered on Digital Markeng for Business, offering parcipants valuable insights into the strategies and tools necessary for effecve online markeng. Led by a seasoned digital markeng professional, the session provided parcipants with aconable strategies to enhance their online presence and drive

The May Skill Up Weekend was a resounding success, furthering our commitment to providing meaningful development opportunies for our members. By focusing on crical areas such as product development and digital markeng, we are helping our members stay compeve and thrive in their professional journeys.

COMMIT TO QUALITYHEALTHAND DENTALOUTREACH IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD HEALTH DAY2024.

The commit to quality health, medical and dental outreach took place at 39 Shia Street, Dopemu Agege community on the 6th of April,2024. This event was held to commemorate World Health Day.

We had partners including Medical Doctors, Registered Nurses, Densts, Flour Mill Nigeria (FMN), Agbelebu foundaon, Agege Local Government and representaves from the Lagos State AIDS Agency, who aended to the people of the Dopemu community by providing consultaons, tesng, and treatments.

The outreach began with parcipant registraon, with over 208 individuals registered. They had their blood pressure, blood glucose levels, and body weight checked by the Nurses. 50 children had malaria parasite test done.

Addionally, they received consultaons from medical doctors and were given prescribed drugs as needed. Dental care services were provided adequately. Parcipants also received comprehensive health educaon on adopng healthy lifestyles.

The event was covered by a media crew from TVC, which aired the outreach on TVC News. Interviews were conducted with the Chairperson, the President, Vice President, and some parcipants.

We were also honored by the presence and support of JCI Ikeja members, who parcipated in the medical processes as well. Overall, the outreach was a resounding success.

Introducon: The online event tled "Staying at the Forefront of Emerging Technologies" was successfully hosted on April 5th, 2024, at 6:00 PM Nigerian Time via the Zoom plaorm. The event aimed to explore and discuss the latest trends and innovaons in the tech industry, focusing on how individuals and businesses can adapt and thrive in the rapidly evolving landscape of emerging technologies.

This program is an occasion of great significance where we aim to put together to inspire young individuals to be successful as entrepreneurs and to make business owners upscale their businesses.

As we efficiently engage entrepreneurs which is a designed to be sustainable for the future, following the SEE agenda.

5. Real-world case studies were presented, showcasing successful Case Studies: implementaons of emerging technologies and their benefits.

6. The event concluded with Closing Remarks: closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of connuous learning and adaptaon in the tech landscape.

Parcipant Engagement: The event witnessed acve parcipaon from a minimum of 24 parcipants to a maximum of 43, demonstrang a keen interest in the subject maer.

Parcipants engaged in thought-provoking discussions, asked insighul quesons, and exchanged ideas, contribung to alively and enriching atmosphere throughout the program.

Feedback and Success Metrics: Post-event surveys and feedback indicated a high level of sasfacon among parcipants, with many expressing appreciaons for the informave sessions, interacve format, and networking opportunies. Key success metrics included posive feedback rangs, increased knowledge and awareness of emerging technologies, and networking connecons established during the event.

Conclusively, the "Staying at the Forefront of Emerging Technologies" event was a resounding success, bringing together a diverse group of professionals and enthusiasts to explore, learn, and collaborate on the future of technology. The engaging discussions, expert insights, and networking opportunies made it a valuable experience for all parcipants, reaffirming the importance of staying abreast of emerging trends in the tech industry.

On Saturday, May 18th, 2024, the Innovave Enterprise Seminar took place at L'eola Hotels, Maryland, drawing aendees from various locaons for a transformave session themed "Embracing Change: Recipe for Business Growth and Development." The seminar featured prominent speakers: David Lanre Messan on embracing change, Seunfunmi Bolanriwa on design thinking, Damilare Fakorede on leveraging technology, and Adegoke Omotola on leadership and digital transformaon.

The event began with insighul speeches by Chairperson JC Babatunde Akindele and Local Organizaon President Omowunmi Fakoya. David Lanre Messan and the panelists led dynamic discussions and interacve acvies, enhancing parcipants' understanding of embracing change for business growth. Online parcipants also engaged in the session.

Damilare Fakorede emphasized using arficial intelligence for business innovaon, while Seunfunmi Bolanriwa highlighted the importance of design thinking and customer-focused research. Adegoke Omotola discussed how leaders can transform businesses through technology adopon, data-driven decisions, and enhanced efficiency. JCI AKURE APRIL GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The April General Assembly of JCI Akure was held on 28th April, 2024 at the Royal Birds Hotel, Alagbaka GRA, Akure. The event was aended by the local organizaon's members, Intending members and guests who gathered to discuss the chapter's achievements, upcoming projects, and strategic plans for the remainder of the year. The meeng served as a plaorm for the members to share their insights, voice their concerns, and collaborate on iniaves that would posively impact on the vision of our Local Chapter. The business meeng was a producve and informave gathering for the local organisaon The meeng began with the inducon of new members who were warmly . welcomed aertheir oath and introduced to the rest of the JCI Akure family. This was followed by a review of the local organisaon first quarter's financial reports, providing valuable insightsinto the organizaon's performance and growth trajectory. Also the Projects and events executed were all presented while challenges faced during the preparaons were discussed and soluons profered should such challenges be encountered during subsequent projects.

The laer half of the meeng was dedicated to training sessions, where members had the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge, equipping t h e m w i t h t h e necessary tools to c o n t r i b u t e m o r e effecvely to the local o r g a n i s a o n ' s o b j e c v e s .

Overall, the meeng was a resounding success, reinforcing the team's commitment t o t ra n s p a re n c y, connuous learning, and sustained progress. The General Assembly was well-aended, with a total of 26 persons present, including our esteemed trainer, Mrs. Temitope Momoh (President of Ondo State Instute of Quanty Surveyors, Ondo State Chapter). Members present demonstrated a keen interest in the subject maer (Purposeful Intent to Make an Outstanding Impact for Humanity) and acvely engaged in the discussions, seeking clarificaon and providing valuable insight throughout the session.

JCI AKURE HELD HER SECOND INTENDING MEMBERS TRAINING

The Directorate of Growth in conjucon with the Directorate of Skills organized the second intending members training in 2024 for JCI Akure. The training was held virtually via zoom on the 13th of April, 2024 and facilitated by JC Adebisi Michael Oladeji. The training lasted for about 3 hours.

JCI AKURE ORGANIZED VISIT TO THE HISTORIC IDANRE HILLS FOR HIKING

JCI Akure in an effort to create strong family bond amongst members and intending members organized an hiking to the ancient Idanre Hills on the 1st of April, 2024. The hiking which was well aended by members, intending members, friends and family was full mind blowing moments as we visit historic sites on the Idanre Hill.

Idanre Hill, located in Ondo State, Nigeria, has become a popular desnaon for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The challenging yet rewarding hike up the hill offers more than just physical exercise; it provides an opportunity for bonding and improving overall health

The scenic views from the top of the hill, coupled with the sense of accomplishment, make the journey worthwhile. The feelings created a deeper connecon within the parcipants as we navigate the winding paths and overcome the physical obstacles together. Moreover, the strenuous acvity helps to promote cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles, and boost mental well-being, making the Idanre Hill hike a holisc experience that benefits both the body and the mind.

On April 7, 2024, JCI Rockcity had a mental awareness seminar to commemorate Internaonal Mental Health Day, aligning with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.

The theme was: My Health, My Right: Overcoming Depression Amidst an Economic Downturn.

The trainer was Dr. Jibril Abdulmalik of the Asido Foundaon. The project goals are:

● Create awareness for mental health, including emoonal, psychological, and social well-being.

● To create awareness that mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood to old age.

We also had a health challenge in which we parcipated.

- Work out challenge

- Drinking water challenge

- Taking walks challenge

- Reading and meditang challenges.

The webinar resulted in:

- Increased Awareness and Understanding: Parcipants gained a deeper understanding of mental health, recognized signs, and learned about seeking help.

- Reduced Sgma: Parcipants became more accepng and supporve, contribung to a cultural shi in reducing mental health sgma.

- Improved Mental Health Literacy: Parcipants enhanced their knowledge of resources, treatments, and self-care strategies.

- Behavioral Changes: Parcipants adopted healthier pracces, and coping mechanisms, and sought help when needed, leading to improved mental health outcomes.

- Advocacy and Acon: Some parcipants became mental health advocates, promong policy changes and organizing support groups.

- Impact Beyond Parcipants: The webinar's influence extended to families, friends, colleagues, and social networks, creang a ripple effect of posive change.

JCIN Amb. Ayodeji Oliver spoke extensively on the topic. Our take-home was:

As part of our ongoing efforts to build quality leadership, JCI Rockcity organized a JCI PRESENTER TRAINING on This was May 25th. a physical training session that had 8 parcipants in aendance.

The training was highly impacul, and all the parcipants expressed gratude to JCI Rockcity for organizing this valuable session. The trainer for the session was JCI Senator Henry Adedokun.

PAD A GIRL CHILD

On May 28th, 2024, JCIN FEDPOFFA embarked on an impacul project, "Pad a Girl Child," aimed at promong menstrual hygiene and challenging societal norms and taboos surrounding menstruaon.

The project began with an educaonal session at Ansarul Islam Senior Secondary School Offa, where girls were taught about "Breaking the Sgma: Challenging Societal Norms and Taboos Surrounding Menstruaon" under the global theme "Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld." The session was led by guest speaker Mrs. Oyebanji Olubukola, General Hospital Offa NHIA Desk Officer, who addressed the girls' quesons an

The management staff of Ansarul Islam Senior Secondary School Offa expressed their sincere appreciaon to JCIN FEDPOFFA for bringing this program to their female students, acknowledging the posive impact on their m e n s t r u a l h y

The project team then proceeded to St. Clare's Anglican Girls' Grammar School Offa, where the students showed exceponal parcipaon and acve engagement during the program. The girls listened aenvely, asked quesons, and made valuable contribuons to the d i s c u s s i o n .

At the end of the training, the girls were able to idenfy and share what they had learned during the program.

The project team distributed a total of 550 pads to the girls in both schools, promong menstrual hygiene and d i g n i t y .

The success of the Pad a Girl Child Project was made possible through the collecve effort of the JCIN FEDPOFFA, donors, and supporters who contributed through donaons, promoon, and other forms of support. The project's impact is a testament to the power of collaboraon and community engagement in empowering young girls and promong menstrual h y g i e n e a w a r e n e s s .

The major acvity of the month on the local organizaon was week long virtual skill up webinar from the Directorate of Skills and Development themed ''POUND SAPA”. clarity of the subject of discourse.

This was aimed at enabling human capacity development of members and the focus cuts across career, personal and professional development. Asides all of these, consideraon was put into equipping interested parcipants with three parcular skill set which are Graphics Design, Meta ads, (Facebooks) and Content Wring because these skills are in high demand.

Also it was of utmost importance to also enlighten the parcipants beyond the need to get skilled or upskill but also make them see the need to moneze these skill set and increase their earning potenal. Hence, it is themed ''POUND SAPA”.

The Skill up session flagged off on Tuesday, 30th of April with by Isaac CV CLINIC Mascot the Founder and Project Lead at ValYou Impact. He shared extensively on the art of craing a winning CV, common mistakes to avoid and many things to put into considering to be disnguished in the compeve future of work.

Victory Oghenevo, the founder of the PM Tribe,a resource community for Aspiring and professional project management on Wednesday,1st May shared on the Basics of Project Management, opportunies therein and industry insights. It was a very good me to also see the relevance and the increasing demand of Project Managers as stated by Forbes.

We hosted Esther Abiade, the HR generalist at Tek Experts Nigeria on Thursday 2nd of May as she facilitated on in which The Art of Acing Interviews she dived into the purpose of an interview, expectaons of the recruiter and preparaon techniques to increase the chances of recruitment. The physical session had to be rescheduled to a later date in May due to change in the school academic calendar and also to ensure proper planning.

A Courtesy visit to the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Ogun State on Special Dues and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

As part of preparaons for the upcoming Heritage Safety Awareness Event, a delegaon from Junior Chamber Internaonal Nigeria, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) chapter paid a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Ogun State on Special Dues and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Honorable Damilola Otubanjo on 3rd of May, 2024.

The visit aimed to seek support and collaboraon from the state government for the upcoming event, which focuses on promong safety awareness among young people. The delegaon, led by Adekunle Daniel, President of JCIN MAPOLY, comprising 9 delegates, represenng JCIN MAPOLY.

During the visit, the Senior Special Adviser commended JCIN MAPOLY for its commitment to community service and sustainable development, parcularly in the areas of safety awareness. The delegaon presented an overview of the Heritage Safety Awareness Event, and sought the SSA's support in promong the event and achieving its objecves.

The Senior Special Adviser expressed her willingness to collaborate with JCIN MAPOLY on the event and offered guidance on how to ensure its success.

Discussions also focused on potenal areas of partnership, including educaon, healthcare.
