We invite you to join our Cultural Arts at the J Circle of support! Help enrich the lives of over 10,000 patrons annually! Theatre. Literature. Film. Cultural Arts at the J reorients our heart toward empathy, expands our intellect and imagination, and inspires the best of humanity in all of us. Annually, the J’s 68 theatre performances, 30+ literary events, and 12 films use the power of story to shape new perspectives and motivate our urban and rural populations to join the quest for a better world. Bundled sponsor funding provides dynamic and diverse programming united by the unique ability to enrich our understanding of the human drama as experienced across the spectrum of theatre, literature, and film, resulting in the emotional and mental flourishing of our Jewish community and communities throughout St. Louis.
2025 Season opens with Cabaret on March 20!
Standing in the lobby before an NJT production is one of my favorite things to do. I get to greet our patrons, answer their questions, observe as old friends run into each other and reminisce about old times, and when I’m lucky, hear stories about how NJT’s performances have touched people’s lives. This past season I have been fortunate to have heard many such comments: how We All Fall Down so beautifully captured the experience of loving someone who receives a diagnosis of dementia, the way Trayf perfectly reflected the universal experience of changing friendships as we grow-up, and how All My Sons provoked both tears and deep thought on the issues of communal versus familial responsibility.
I am always thrilled to hear these comments and compliments (and even the critiques) because that is how I know that the work we do matters. But none of that would be possible without generous supporters like you. Theatre is expensive – we pay the actors, technicians, designers, and directors. We purchase materials to build scenery and create props, to costume our actors, shine lights upon them and amplify their voices. And our ticket sales only cover about half of our overall expenses. Through your generosity, we can continue to gather the best and brightest talent to tell stories and create transformative experiences. And I’ll be there in the lobby, waiting to thank you and hear your story!
See you at the theatre,
Rebekah Scallet Artistic Director, NJT

The communal experience of live theatre lifts the spirit, releases cathartic tears, increases empathy, and speaks to the heart through the power of story. NJT is in its third decade and is considered one of the best small professional theatres in St. Louis. Touching the hearts and minds of over 5,000 patrons over its five annual productions, NJT shares diverse stories through a Jewish lens that celebrate our entire community, making powerful connections between disparate people for increased understanding, and offering the chance to imagine a better world through art.

2025 Festival runs March 30-April 8.
Late last year, Arts and Public Health consultant Dr. Tasha Golden remarked, “You’re going to need something to help you process and share how vast and difficult and beautiful the human experience is.” She emphasized the power of cultural arts as our most effective solution.
The Surgeon General declared a loneliness epidemic in our country, prompting health experts to urgently call for a renewed focus on social connection, belonging and purpose.
Cultural Arts to the rescue! Engaging with the arts enhances well-being, accelerates brain development and learning, builds resilience, extends lifespan, fosters connection and community, offers a break from technology, infuses life with meaning, combats loneliness and stress, and so much more. It’s like a magic pill for wellness!
By sponsoring the Jewish Film Festival or any cultural arts at the J, you contribute far beyond mere financial support. You play a vital role in enhancing the wellness of your family, friends, and the broader community. Eclipsing 1,000 movie watchers over its six-day, two-week festival, JFF expands the understanding of what it means to be human with impactful and relevant cinema chosen specifically to activate laughter, tears, and critical examinations of humanity through cultural, historical, and relational storytelling. Documentaries, comedies, dramas, and romances all provide genre-specific entertainment that confronts, challenges, and celebrates the human condition.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. runs May 14-18!
A child steps onto the stage. Into the lights. In this one moment, a wealth of experience roots deeply and will support them through the many adventures of life.
The performing arts reach far beyond acting, dancing, and singing. A student involved in a theatrical production learns life lessons in collaboration, taking ownership of their work, problem solving, making choices, receiving and integrating constructive feedback, and time management. These skills quickly stack up resulting in a confidence that empowers them to forge their path ahead into adulthood with clarity and resilience.
When you support Youth Theatre at the J you are opening opportunities for children to explore who they are and who they want to become. Your financial contribution allows the magic of theatre to do what it does best for our next generation – build empathy, foster creativity, and nurture personal responsibility.
We invite you to join us in our mission to bring education and discovery to our children through the expansive world of theatre!
