Tamo gdje nisu poplave stigle uništiti sve, klizišta i odroni zemlje ĉine svoje. Mediji prenose snimke na kojima se vidi kako zemlja „guta“ kuću dok vlasnik bespomoćno gleda, putevi su popucani, pojedina naselja potpuno nestaju, ljudi bukvalno gube tlo pod nogama. U cijeloj Bosni i Hercegovini vlada neopisiva tuga, plaĉ, nevjerica i strah. Noć ne donosi ništa bolje

uslove.

Sve do ĉetvrtka, 16.5.2014. godine.

Cjelokupni reljef Modriĉkog Luga je izmijenjen, a time i budućnost mještana.

Wednesday, 14 May 2014 It rained heavily few days in a row with high intensity causing many floods. Numerous municipalities due to its consequences declare the state of natural disaster. In the afternoon, the rain spreads in the territory of all Bosnia and Herzegovina. The river banks were too small to retain so much water. Many citizens face the terrible disaster that inundation brings. Many of them pass the night in fear, ignorance and cold. A lot of them are left without drinkable water and electricity. However, the rain doesn't stop!

Thursday, 15 May 2014 It is still raining heavily! The morning brings more fear. Most of the population is left without electricity. Some of the municipalities had electricity but whether that was good is questionable since all the media was constantly bombarding with terrible news and information. Most of main and local roads were closed! With passing of time, the panic only grew because the rain was not stopping. There were people left who were escaping from their own homes, people who try to save what can be saved, struggling to save their families and helplessly watching their homes while the earth and the water is swallowing them. On the BH’s rivers and creeks the view is horrible. Apart from flooding homes, roads, cities,

villages, the rivers are also taking bridges, garbage, cars, roofs, trees and everything else what the water currents can take away. The rivers have become cities or cities have become rivers?! Photos in the media are becoming more dramatic and the population is in shock. In greater number of Bosnian municipalities the evacuation is already in process. The damage is increasing each day. Numerous citizens are cut from the world and we can reach them only by helicopter or boat. There are people waiting on the roof to be rescued. The most difficult situation is in Maglaj, Doboj, Zenica, Zavidovići. The night is cold, heavy, terrible and immensely long!

Friday, 16 May 2014 The rain drizzles! BH news report more bad news. Speculations about the number of victims are made and the politicians are only guessing how much material damage the floods have brought. The figures are in billions. The rain withdraws on the North and continues its “mission of demolition and destruction” in cities of Banja Luka, Bijeljina and Brĉko. Foreign countries are sending their helicopter, boats, and resources in order to help Bosnia and Herzegovina. Calls for help are rising. Many accounts for humanitarian purposes are opened and food packages are distributed. Many people are still trapped in their households and waits terrified for assistance. The territories not reached by floods are reached by landslides. The media transmit videos where it can be clearly seen how the land swallows the house while the owner helplessly watches. The roads are broken while some villages disappear completely- people are literary losing the ground under their feet. In the entire country, misery, sadness, pain,

disbelief and fear can be felt. The night is worst of all. Many the world to help and not to be indifferent on what is families don’t know what is happening to their relatives, happening. Many foreign countries called upon the action to whether they are safe. The phones are dead. They cannot help, but it is still not enough! make contact. The sunset brings hope and hopefully better news. Sunday, 18 May 2014 Saturday, 17 May 2014 The rain is replaced by sun! The rain ceased. Now it only trickles! The rain finally stopped and the early rays of sun brought The morning hours of this weekend are everything else but smiles and hope to many citizens of Bosnia and usual. Although it rains less than previous days the Herzegovina. However, many places are still under water. consequences left devastation. The water retained in most In last days the country endured the actions that only the cities but not completely. They resemble cities you see in strength of nature can do. This broke all the records of horror movies. Wherever you look you see destroyed sufferance that struck BiH. As any battle that happens, it houses and yards, trees on roads, damaged bridges, brings suffering and victims. This battle wasn’t an uprooted lighting poles, garbage. The number of found exception. But BiH will win this as all the others. It just victims increases from minute to minute while speculations needs patience, strength, will and time. There are still good about material damages are still on. By the end of the day, -hearted people in the world willing to assist and show everyone is involved in humanitarian actions- cleaning; support in this difficult time. collecting packages of food…Bosnia is pleading the rest of

After the first shock and disbelief, people hit by floods had to face the consequences and the cruel reality. The view of the cities that suffered more than others during those days is miserable. Beautiful cities like Doboj, Maglaj, Bosanski Šamac and others are totally destroyed. In front of all the houses only dumps of garbage can be seen. Not so far ago that garbage represented existence to those people- furniture, doors, windows, clothes- all household things are demolished! People are suffering not only due to material damage but also because many of them lost family members who were the unluckiest and couldn’t find the way out to save themselves.

From 14 May to 20 July, IFS- Emmaus led by its humanitarian mission implemented a distributing action supported by numerous home, foreign organizations and good-hearted people. This was also the biggest action since this organization was founded. The action focused on assistance to the population struck by severe floods in all territory of BiH where people are left without homes, furniture, hope and faith. However, we can proudly state that we managed to cover more than 14.000 households and manage to distribute packages of food, hygienic supplies, furniture, doors and windows, tools, clothes, shoes etc. and to return a little bit of hope to the suffering population. These supplies are just one way to show to people that they are not alone and forgotten although everything else is literally gone under water. No matter how cruel and severe the destiny can be at times, they should be aware that people with kind heart exist and they will always come and knock on the door delivering at least one food package. This humanitarian action is a continuous activity of IFS-Emmaus and it will continue until material possibilities for its fulfillment exist because

“It is decided to continue‌â€?

During the distribution of help, IFS-Emmaus saw and listened to many blue stories, two of them are written below…

Today we loaded our van with donations consisting of food, hygienic supplies, drinkable water, and clothes and headed towards Maglaj (one of the destroyed cities in BiH). We knew that the road to Maglaj will be difficult full of unpredictable physical obstacles and delays due to consequences of landslides and water, but we did not give up. The entire way we were followed by sun and high temperatures but the feeling that we all felt was of great sadness. We were passing the road and environment we knew very well but now it seemed like passing through a city of ghosts. Everything is destroyed, grey, demolished and dirty! Our destination was Omerdino Polje and we reached it safely. We didn’t even park the van when someone knocked on the window asking for food, water and imploring for help. It was an old lady who was crying desperately. We managed to stop and to open the door of the van where the packages were stored. In a nick of time in front of us a huge number of people including women and children were begging for food. In one moment they all panicked.

They were afraid that the number of packages won’t be sufficient for all of them. In that fuss we noticed an old lady who was barely standing on her feet. When she realized that we glimpsed at her she initiated to tell her story. She begged for a matrass to sleep on. She led us to the apartment where she lived with 6 more persons among which a 6-months-old baby. They all slept on one sofa, but she could not continue to sleep like that. They were all left without homes. That apartment was of one cousin of them who was living abroad. The old lady started to speak about all her pains and she was upset and shaken by her own destiny. “I beg you to get me a matrass. I can’t sleep like this anymore because I am sick and I won’t be able to continue my life”, words of Hiba Ramić. Our heart was shaken as well. Unfortunately in our van we didn’t have a matrass. But we promised to return and to fulfill her humble demand as we really don’t wish to anyone this destiny when in a second all what you have worked your entire life slips away from you.

That Sunday of 25 May 2014, a team of six employees headed towards Šamac in order to visit and assist directly those who need help and to distribute packages containing food any hygienic supplies. Overcoming a great number of obstacles on the road- destroyed streets, landslides, broken bridges the road led us to a small village in the municipality of Vukosavlje, Modrički Lug.

victims but when the water receded on Friday 17th, the locals suffered a terrible disbelief and shock. All the territory was covered with gravel that was nutritious ground before and leaving it as infertile. A great damage suffered Edin whose house was torn to the ground. The entire scenery of Modrički Lug has been changed and with it the future of the locals.

The scenery they saw was one from the worst nightmares. All the trees fallen, roads taken away, flooded structures were scattered around. . Around 200 households were directly covered by water in nearly two hours surrounding 900 citizens who could be reached afterwards only by boats. People were imprisoned in their own home on the river coast of Bosnia trying to save their property they gained by hard work from agriculture.

Edin is now with his family in a shelter where he awaits the outcome of his destiny and hard struggle for survival as all the others who are dividing his destiny. The most difficult time is in front of those who don’t have anywhere to return or go and who are forced to change their place of residence.

One of them is also Edin, a returnee and father of three young children. All his strength, money and desire for life in the native land focused on agriculture and livestock. Until less than a year he lived in Tešanj when he actually returned and moved in his house that he built with his own means. Near the banks of the river Bosna where he had 10 to 15 acres of land and where he managed after all the sufferings from war to rebuild life for himself and his family. All this until Thursday the 16th of May.

According to the words of the locals, the bridge leading to Modriča and Šamac with its construction retained the water of already risen river Bosna creating a natural dam. The collected water created a huge wave that covered that village destroying everything in front of it. Fortunately, there were no human

Part of their identity is lost- taken away by water and angry rivers. But the spirit of our men is hard to break so that we sincerely hope that Edin will be helped by good-hearted people: that he will receive support for building a new home from the ground for the umpteenth time…

Once more, IFS-Emmaus volunteers proved with their youth, strength and willingness that they are ready to help themselves but also to their fellow neighbors in order to provide better future. After the water receded from Doboj, they spent their time in helping people to clean their homes so that these people can move back in households. Besides, not only did they give contribution to single people they also worked in public institutions in need for human resources especially in primary school Vuk Stefanović KaradŞić and in humanitarian distributions in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. IFSEmmaus is proud on its team of volunteers.

IFS-Emmaus in cooperation with Islamic community Doboj and City Doboj opens a soup kitchen for the population hit by floods. The kitchen is located in the former restaurant “Karizma“ . The cleaning and adjustments of the restaurant was done not only by employees but with support of volunteers. Since 31 May the soup kitchen has been functioning on daily basis. Around 8400 meals are distributed in a week.
