Musique afro-mandingue et flamenco

Suite au succès de Kora flamenca (prix Félix d’album de l’année - musiques du monde à l’ADISQ et du Prix de musique folk canadienne dans la catégorie Album Traditions du monde de l’année), Zal Sissokho et Caroline Planté allient à nouveau leurs 2 cultures musicales : la musique afro-mandingue et le flamenco.

Kora flamenca II, ce sont 10 nouvelles chansons, partagées également entre les deux compositeurs et artistes. À travers leur musique, Zal (kora et voix) et Caroline Planté (guitare flamenca et voix) proposent un voyage coloré, au son de leur rencontre, accompagnés de Miguel Medina aux percussions et JeanFélix Mailloux à la contrebasse.

Afro-Mandingo music and flamenco

Following the success of Kora Flamenca (Félix award for Album of the Year - Best World Music at ADISQ and the Canadian Folk Music Awards in the Global Roots Album of the Year category), Zal Sissokho and Caroline Planté once again combine both of their musical cultures: Afro-Mandingo music and flamenco.

Kora Flamenca II has 10 new tracks, shared equally between the two composers and artists. Through their music, Zal (kora and voice) and Caroline Planté (flamenco guitar and voice) o er a colourful journey to the sound of their collaboration, accompanied by Miguel Medina on percussion and Jean-Félix Mailloux on double bass.

Universelle de 1889 à Paris, mais Ei el ne s’intéresse qu’au projet de métropolitain. Tout bascule lorsqu’il recroise son amour de jeunesse. Leur relation interdite l’inspire à changer l’horizon de Paris pour toujours. En français sous titré anglais

Having just finished working on the Statue of Liberty, Gustave Ei el is at the height of his career. The French government wanted him to create something spectacular for the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris, but Ei el was only interested in the metro project. Everything changed when he ran into his childhood sweetheart again. Their forbidden relationship inspires him to change the skyline of Paris forever.

Jérôme et les femmessavons-nous qui a traduit la Bible ?

Lyse Hébert, professeure agrégée, traductologue et traductrice

L’histoire nous a laissé de Jérôme un portrait à la fois précis et fragmentaire. Précis parce que certains de ses écrits --surtout des lettres et des préfaces à ses traductions et textes exégétiques-sont extrêmement révélateurs du personnage, notamment de ses rapports avec les autorités publiques et religieuses. Fragmentaire, toutefois, en raison de l’absence quasi totale (dans les archives accessibles) de lettres qu’il a reçues d’un groupe de femmes qu’il a longtemps côtoyées et avec qui il a échangé une longue correspondance.

Cette conférence portera sur les échanges épistolaires entre Jérôme et ces femmes sur le thème de la traduction et, plus précisément, sur ses commentaires concernant leur apport à son travail.

Jérôme and WomenDo We Know Who Translated the Bible?

Lyse Hébert, associate professor, translatologist, and translator

History has left us a portrait of Jérôme that is both precise and fragmentary. Precise because some of his writings—especially letters and prefaces to his translations and exegetical texts—are extremely revealing of his character, especially his relations with public and religious authorities. Fragmentary, however, because of the almost total absence (in the accessible archives) of letters he received from a group of women with whom he had a long correspondence.

This conference will focus on the epistolary exchanges between Jérôme and these women on the theme of translation and, more specifically, on his comments concerning their contribution to his work.

Bulles relève la force créatrice des talents de notre ville, et invite le public à lâcher prise dans une multitude d’univers, guidé par les pensées de Katia Café-Fébrissy, Julie Lassonde, Martine Côté, Ama Ouattara, Saïda Ouchaou-Ozarowski, Lise Beaudry, Carolina Reis, Jacques Descoteaux, Samuel Choisy, Madi Piller et Jean-Christophe Foolchand. Ces 11 artistes prêtent leur vision à cette exposition afin d’inviter le spectateur à naviguer dans leur univers singulier mis en valeur par des micros-entrevues dirigées par le réalisateur Louis-Philippe Gallant.

En se réappropriant cet exercice de questions-réponses, les artistes torontois(es) nous proposent une vision personnelle de leur travail et du rôle de l’art dans la société.

Bulles highlights the creative force of our city’s talents, and invites the public to let go in a multitude of universes, guided by the thoughts of Katia Café-Fébrissy, Julie Lassonde, Martine Côté, Ama Ouattara, Saïda Ouchaou-Ozarowski, Lise Beaudry, Carolina Reis, Jacques Descoteaux, Samuel Choisy, Madi Piller, and Jean-Christophe Foolchand. In this exhibition, these 11 artists share their vision in order to invite the viewer to navigate through their singular universe that features mini interviews directed by Louis-Philippe Gallant.

By reappropriating this question-and-answer exercise, the Torontonian artists o er us a personal vision of their work and the role of art in society.

Art Nouveau, Art Déco ; ruptures ou continuités ?

Né en France dans les années 1910-1915, au moment où l’Art Nouveau s’essou e et où les collectionneurs recherchent une esthétique nouvelle, l’Art Déco marque une évidente rupture ; les lignes deviennent plus rigides, les formes plus géométriques, et les anciens maîtres, à commencer par Hector Guimard, connaissent moins de succès. Toutefois, en Belgique, en Allemagne, en Autriche, et même en France, les lignes de fracture sont parfois moins nettes ; des architectes et des designers, tels qu’Henry Van de Velde, Peter Behrens, ou encore Otto Wagner, créent des œuvres dont les formes rectilignes procèdent directement de leur période « Art Nouveau » passée. Art Nouveau, Art Deco; Ruptures or Continuities?

Born in France between 1910-1915, at a time when Art Nouveau was running out of steam and collectors were looking for a new aesthetic, Art Deco marked an obvious break; the lines became more rigid, the forms more geometric, and the old masters, starting with Hector Guimard, were less successful. However, in Belgium, Germany, Austria, and even in France, the fracture lines are sometimes less clear; architects and designers, such as Henry Van de Velde, Peter Behrens, or Otto Wagner, create artworks with rectilinear forms directly preceding their past “Art Nouveau” period. So, ruptures or continuities?

Le festival de musique international Django à Gogo® fête ses 20 ans ! Le festival met l’accent sur l’art et le style de guitare jazz manouche du célèbre Django Reinhardt. Jusqu’à présent, le festival a eu lieu à New York et à Maplewood, o rant des séries de concerts, des camps de guitare et de violon, ainsi qu’un spectacle final dans des lieux légendaires tels que Carnegie Hall ou Town Hall. À partir de 2023, pour célébrer le 20e anniversaire, le festival s’étend avec Django à Gogo® Los Angeles et Django à Gogo® Toronto.

Django à Gogo® Festival

Stephane Wrembel band with Simba Baumgartner: guitar, Aurore Voilqué: violin, Nathan Beja: vocals and guitar, Debi Botos: guitar The international music festival Django à Gogo® celebrates its 20th anniversary! The festival focuses on the art and style of gypsy jazz guitar of the famous Django Reinhardt. To date, the festival has been held in New York City and Maplewood, o ering concerts, guitar and violin camps, and a final show at legendary venues such as Carnegie Hall and Town Hall. Beginning in 2023, to celebrate the 20th anniversary, the festival expands with Django à Gogo® Los Angeles and Django à Gogo ® Toronto.
