A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: AN EVENING IN THE READING GARDEN DONOR EVENT

Thank you to everyone who attended the Foundation donor event on Thursday, June 6. Throughout the library’s storied shelves, donors gathered for a scavenger hunt winding through the library’s aisles, testing participants’ prowess and sparking laughter and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed refreshments, conversation and building connections over a shared love of the library.

Resident Profile Foundation

Looking for a unique one-of-a-kind gift? Personalize a reading garden brick for that special person in your life.

Community Connections Curbside

RESIDENT PROFILE

Occasionally, during a curbside book donation drop-off, staff have the chance to converse, even on a cold winter’s day. A resident called and inquired about donating an extensive collection of mystery novels in pristine condition. We discovered this donor was local author Kirk Landers. He has found the library an excellent place to bring his grandchildren throughout the years and has utilized our open spaces to work on writing projects.

Despite the windy conditions, our staff hurried to stack the books onto carts, expressing our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Foundation. We looked forward to meeting again soon. Staff recognized we were given current mystery novels that would appeal to our members. Materials Services added several titles into our collection, and Adult Services librarians were excited to take titles as prize books for the Summer Library Adventure. The remaining books were offered at a Foundation Used Book Sale.

We learned about Kirk’s extensive work with off-campus writers’ workshop and his contribution to the publishing industry. About 50 percent of Kirk’s current reading goes toward beta reading for fellow authors.

You can check out Kirk Lander’s work here at the library. He is the author of Alone on The Shield and a collaborator in the anthology Meaningful Conflicts: The Art of Friction, which features fortynine authors and fifteen poets. Visit Kirk at: kirklanders.com and off campus writers’ workshop at: ocww.info/OCWW-events
