Meet the Trustees

MEET TRUSTEE: CRISTEL MOHRMAN

Can you tell us about your background and what inspired you to become a library trustee?

I’m a lifelong resident of the Indian Trails Library District and the library has always been one of my favorite places. I’ve volunteered with many local organizations over the years. When an Indian Trails trustee position opened up last year, I was eager to contribute to the library’s continued success.

What do you believe is the most important role of a library in our community?

Our library offers opportunities for all of us to learn and grow through reading, technology, creativity and more. It narrows economic and generational gaps by providing resources and entertainment to the entire community. Whether you want to borrow books or movies, use a computer, take a class or need a place for your kids to play, you can do it all at Indian Trails.

Can you share a memorable experience or achievement during your time as a trustee?

I’m still relatively new to the library board, so every experience has been memorable. I’ve enjoyed getting to know staff members and seeing how their enthusiasm and unique skills contribute to patrons’ positive experiences.

What are some of the biggest challenges libraries face today, and how do you think we can address them?

One challenge is educating citizens about everything libraries have to offer. Indian Trails does a great job of showcasing many of its services in this newsletter and on social media, but some community members are still unaware of how much the library has evolved over the years. Continued outreach efforts, partnerships with other local entities and soliciting community input may help us serve even more people.

What are your hopes and goals for the future of our library?

My hope is that Indian Trails will continue to be a resource for community members of all ages and backgrounds. I want to see it continue to evolve in conjunction with technology and the community’s needs over time so we can remain on the cutting edge and serve as many residents as possible.

What was your favorite book as a child? As an adult? I could never choose just one. Some of my childhood favorites included “The Baby-Sitters Club” series by Ann M. Martin and “Just As Long As We’re Together” by Judy Blume. As an adult, I really enjoy fiction, historical fiction and memoirs. Favorites include “Angels & Demons” by Dan Brown, “Leaving Time” by Jodi Picoult, “Best Friends” by Martha Moody, “Educated” by Tara Westover, “Tattoos on the Heart” by Gregory Boyle and “An Invisible Thread” by Laura Schroff, to name just a few.

What is your favorite area of the main library or branch? It really depends on my interest on any given day, because the main library can address almost any need. I love exploring adult and children’s books, browsing the huge DVD collection and taking different classes. The Launch Pad provides amazing opportunities to create projects with a laser engraver, 3D printers and sublimation printers at no cost.
