Restored local heritage sites such as Sundays Well and the erection of the Dr Pat O’ Callaghan, Ambush and other monuments. Developed a local Community Council housing policy in 2006 Upgraded the railway station with Ianroid Eireann to a state of the art totally automated station with further upgrades in progress there at present to ensure access for all and additional train services Provision of E-Fibre broadband to facilitate local enterprise / social interaction and remote working. E-fibre to the home is now also available locally. Developed transport services to major towns and cities via rail travel ,weekly Bus Eireann service and Local Link Bus service to and from Kanturk and weekly bingo etc Progressed local roads improvements such as surfacing of roads, improved road safety and pushed for the development of the Ballymaquirke roundabout via
a public meeting held at the Glen Theatre in March 2018 All these projects and community services were progressed with the help and great support of the local community, IRD Duhallow, Local County Councillors and local TDs. The combination of all the projects/services has led to a better quality of life for all the people in Banteer area.
We thank all who helped with the original Pride of Place application and the judging day and also sponsors EPS Mallow who compiled the video and booklets, and Eamon Tarrant and Sons who provided transport on the judging day. Special thanks also to Aileen Walsh Pride of place Coordinator with Cork County Council for her great help and support to date.
Banteer Sportsfield The recent major €2.2 million project was completed with the new astro pitch, community building and extension to the existing walks officially opened in Jan 2023. To date, the centre is very busy with various activities and up to 20 games some weeks. This facility provides sports facilities for all groups, walking tracks, digital hub, cafe and museum area and when combined with other local facilities gives local families a great quality of life. All these facilities are now very important in our rural community and its important we support all to make them sustainable developments going forward. Many thanks to Deirdre Fallon and all the members in the Mount Hillary Athletic club for a cheque presentation to Banteer Community Sportsfield towards the recent project and in appreciation of the current facilities available to their club.
