U neposrednoj blizini tornja nalaze se mnogobrojne gradske znamenitosti među kojima su stara vrata ili tzv. Rimski luk, palače, muzeji, galerije, crkve i katedrala Sv. Vida koja nosi ime zaštitnika, a nedaleko je i crkva Uznesenja Blažene djevice Marije s kosim tornjem koji predstavlja atrakciju zbog nagiba od 40 centimetara. U malo kojem gradu osjeti se ista živost u jutarnjim, popodnevnim i večernjim satima, a Rijeka je upravo takav grad. Glavna ulica, Korzo, prepuna je tijekom cijelog dana, a terase mnogih ugostiteljskih objekata ne prazne se ni u zimskim mjesecima. U večernjim satima česta su gostovanja glazbenih sastava u pubovima i barovima tako da grad ima bogat noćni život. Gurmani će također doći na svoje jer u gradu i bližoj okolici ima vrlo dobrih restorana, od onih koji nude isključivo riblja jela, preko onih s mesnim delicijama, do onih koji na jelovnicima imaju za svakog ponešto. Ipak, valjalo bi iskoristiti posjet Rijeci i, na svega nekoliko metara od mora, kušati svježu jadransku ribu i kvarnerski škamp za kojeg se smatra da je najukusniji na svijetu.

A stone’s throw from the tower there are numerous important sights like the old gate or the Roman Arch, palaces, museums, galleries, churches and St Vitus Cathedral who is the patron saint of Rijeka, the Church of St Mary of the Assumption or “The Big Church”, while they call its tower Kosi toranj or “the leaning tower” because it’s out of true by 40cm. Rare are those cities where the same liveliness can be felt in the morning, afternoon and evening hours, but Rijeka is certainly one of them. The main street Corso throngs with people all day long, and teraces of many coffee shops and restaurants stay crowded during all seasons. In the evening hours there are often live bands playing in the pubs or bars. Gourmands can also be satisfied because in the city and its surrounding there are many good reastaurants from those offering exclusively fish or meat, to those which have a little something for everyone. However, one should really make the most of a visit to Rijeka by tasting, just a few metres from the sea, fresh Adriatic fish and Kvarner king prawns which are considered to be among the most delicious in the world.
