International H erald Tribune on CD-ROM

Research Publications has recently won the contract to publish the International Herald Tribune on CD-ROM. The first disc will be available in October, allowing libraries, schools and businesses instant access to newspaper reporting from a truly global perspective.

The International Herald Tribune is a quality newspaper, providing its readers with a “window on the world”, and is renowned for its im partial coverage of world events. M arga Beuth, Research Publications’ Sales Director, is particularly pleased to be able to announce this addition to their list of news products. “As RP spans the globe, so does the International Herald Tribune as it provides im partial information on international events. Never before has access to unbiased world news been so easy. A m ust for any library interested in contem porary world events.”

The CD-ROM version will have a sophisticated, yet easy to use, index to provide rapid access to the complete text of the newspaper. Contemporary news on everything from politics, economics and business, to the arts, science and sport will be easily available.

The International Herald Tribune on CD-ROM will also be the first CD-ROM from Research Publications to use their newly developed interface. Improved screen graphics, navigation via a mouse, and a more sophisticated Help function will all lead to smoother and easier operation.

International Herald Tribune on CD-ROM will be available on subscription from October 1994 priced at £750 for a year’s subscription. Updates will be delivered quarterly, w ith a cumulative disk at the end of the year. A special schools price is also available.

An IBM DOS version will be published initially, then a Windows version will be made available.

IMC is announcing the annual call for awards for individuals and organisations th at have contributed decisively to the document management/imaging industry. These prestigious awards will be presented at the IMC Document Imaging ‘94 October 12th in Berlin, Germany.

The F ellow o f M erit A w a rd will only be presented once a year for an exemplary contribution to the international document-based information systems community.

F ellow o f IMC is an award th a t will be given to the three most outstanding contributions to the developm ent and progress of IMC.

The A w a rd o f E xcellence is presented to an individual or organisation, th at has provided outstanding leadership in the field of document-based information systems.

The D .W .M cA rthur P ion eer A w a rd is bestowed upon a person who is widely recognised internationally, having made long-term significant contributions to advance the document management/imaging industry. The recipient shall be an individual whose activities will leave a lasting impact on this industry.

For 31 years IMC has provided, through its activities, an international platform for trends and developments on the sector of document management. L easing of office equipm ent fell in 1993

Leasing of computers and office equipm ent fell by 12% in 1993 to £1,545 million, according to a survey by the Finance & Leasing Association (FLA).

This figure was mirrored by a 12% drop for hire purchase which was down to £207 million last year.

Comments Tony Mallin, Chairm an of the FLA: “These figures reflect the shift away from large scale investm ent in mainframes. Businesses rem ain cautious as they emerge from recession and are relying more and more on networking systems to meet their needs. The focus is now on software products which are used to enhance the capabilities of existing system s”
