menovateľa mali dve pôsobivé stavby – rekonštrukcia hradu Uhrovec a súkromná základná škola Guliver v Banskej Štiavnici. Okrem sledovania samotnej architektúry bolo zážitkom aj sledovanie výkladu autorov k svojim prácam. Bez zbytočne prikrášlených slov, okázalosti alebo manifestov hovorili vecne o peripetiách tvorivého a realizačného procesu a z každej vety človek cítil, že príčinou tohto jednoznačného úspechu je spomínaný prístup k zadaniu – nad rámec štandardných povinností, zmluvne dohodnutých vzťahov či honorárových limitov. Podobný efekt často badať v prácach, keď si architekti sami sebe stavajú domy – a sami sú sebe návrhármi, investormi aj manažérmi realizácie. Tu však šlo o stavby s verejným dosahom. Nabáda sa úvaha, či by architekti nemali dostávať viac dôvery, samozrejme aj viac zodpovednosti – možno až za rámec svojej profesie, keď práve v takomto režime sa darí vzniku mimoriadnych diel. To však vo všeobecnosti nejde – v tom je tento jav výnimočný a zaslúži si to iba výnimočný architekt, ktorého overil výnimočný výkon. Výnimočným momentom je, že sa medzi nomináciami objavila aj novostavba školy, ktorá je však výsledkom iniciatívy súkromného investora. Môže z príkladu ZŠ Guliver v Banskej Štiavnici čerpať inšpiráciu pre revitalizáciu školských stavieb na Slovensku aj verejný sektor? PM Realizácia základnej školy je pokračovaním pekného príbehu, započatého predošlou realizáciou súkromnej materskej školy Guliver. Je dôkazom, že kde je vôľa, tam je cesta. Výnimočnosť tohto momentu spočíva ozaj v tom, že typologicky spadá takáto stavba skôr pod kuratelu štátu či samosprávy. Je obrovským výkričníkom kompetentným inštitúciám, ktoré potrebu rozvoja takejto infraštruktúry buď nesprávne vyhodnocujú, alebo rovno zanedbávajú. Vstupujeme do čias, kde zaklínacia formulka „na to nie sú peniaze“ vďaka podpore v rámci EU nebude viac účinnou výhovorkou a nastaví jednoznačné zrkadlo pripravenosti a schopnosti zodpovedných. Výstižnou ironickou ilustráciou je fakt, že pred realizáciou miestne orgány odmietli ponuku súkromného investora na rekonštrukciu existujúcej štátnej školy. Ktovie, ako to vyhodnocujú pri pohľade na brilantne navrhnutý a zrealizovaný nový školský areál? Posledné roky, a nebolo tomu inak ani v 20. ročníku ceny, sa v kategórii bytové domy nenachádza veľa nominácií. Je bytová výstavba v kríze? it was precisely this extraordinary personal and professional contribution of the architect which seeped through. Two impressive structures, although completely different in their typology, shared this common denominator – the reconstruction of the Uhrovec castle, and the Guliver private primary school in Banská Štiavnica. Besides seeing the architecture itself, the presentations of the authors about their projects were a great experience, too. No pretty words, showiness, or manifestos, they spoke to the point about the mishaps of the creative and execution process. You could feel from every sentence that the reason of this resounding success was the already mentioned approach to the assignment – extending beyond the standard obligations, contractual relations, or the limits of the fee. A similar effect can be seen in projects where architects build houses for themselves – they are their own designers, investors, and execution managers. These two, however, were projects influencing the public. It is worth reflecting on the question whether architects should get more trust, and of course also more responsibility – perhaps even beyond the framework of their profession, as it is this arrangement that gives rise to outstanding artworks. However, this is not generally possible – and it makes this phenomenon unique: only an extraordinary architect verified by an extraordinary performance deserves this. It is extraordinary that this year’s nominations also include a new school, which was built at the initiative of a private investor. Can the example of the Guliver Primary School in Banská Štiavnica serve as an inspiration for the revitalisation of school buildings in Slovakia for the public sector and the state? PM The primary school is a sequel to a nice story, which began with building the Guliver private nursery school. It is a proof that when there’s a will, there’s a way. The uniqueness of this indeed lies in the fact that in terms of typology, this kind of building should fall into the responsibility of the state or local government. It is an enormous exclamation mark for the competent institutions, which either incorrectly evaluate or even neglect the development of such infrastructure. We are entering into a time, when the magic formula “we don’t have money for this” will cease to be an effective excuse thanks to the EU support, and this will hold up a mirror to the readiness and skill of those responsible. A fitting ironic illustration is provided by the fact that before building this school, local authorities turned down the offer of a private investor to refurbish the existing state school. Who knows what they think about it now, looking at the brilliantly designed and executed school grounds? Over the last years, including in the
