Personal answer
Message from Pastor Alexandre Gueiros:
I greet all brethren with the peace of the Lord. As previously mentioned, we will now begin studying the prophetic names and designations of the Lord Jesus in the book of Revelation. We will start with chapter 1. We know that the Lord's desire is to reveal Himself fully to His church. The Bible says:
“Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord [...].”
Hosea 6:3.
Everything that the Lord Jesus is, does, and will do represents blessings for us. Before becoming man, He was with the Father. He is the Word of God. He received the name Jesus when He became man. We want to draw attention to the way the Lord Jesus revealed Himself to John in
the book of Revelation. He appeared in the midst of seven lampstands. These lampstands speak to us of the seven churches. The question is: Are there seven churches? We know that the church of the Lord Jesus is one. It is the same church from the beginning. It is the same church today. Jesus will come to rapture His church, not seven churches. But why seven? Because it tells us of seven historical periods that the church has lived through during its journey. Each period came with its own characteristics, with its own struggles that arose to oppose the doctrine. But the church continued to keep the Word and the doctrine of the apostles. Since the enemy was unable to destroy the church, great persecutions came. And the church continued to keep the Word of God on its journey, being victorious. The church was (and is) victorious because
the Lord Jesus was present in all time periods of its journey.
“[...] I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” Matthew 28:20.
He is with us to fight for us and convey everything we need to know to be victorious with Him. Thus, the Lord presents Himself in the midst of the seven lampstands.
The lampstands had seven lamps, which speak to us of the light that is the Word of God, enlivened by the Holy Spirit. This light illuminates our path and is the revelation of the Holy Spirit. In this way, the church is enabled to walk in the light. This is our calling: to walk by the Word of God, enlivened by the Holy Spirit.
The names and titles of the Lord Jesus
means “salvation.” He is the author and finisher of our faith. Christ, in Greek, means “anointed.” Kings and prophets were anointed. Likewise, the Lord received this honorable anointing from the Holy Spirit to be King and Lord of lords.
The Faithful Witness
He is the faithful witness because he was faithful in everything within the Father's plan.
“I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.” John 8:38.
The Firstborn of the Dead
Through names and titles, we learn about the unfathomable riches of the Lord Jesus. Each title of the Lord Jesus represents blessings for us. They are:
In Hebrew, Jesus (Yeshua)

He is the firstborn among the dead because He was the first to die and be resurrected.
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.” I Thessalonians 4:14.
That is the assurance for us: one day we will be resurrected.
King of kings
Jesus is the faithful and true one who was on the white horse, and on his thigh is written: King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the Lord of the church in all ages.
“Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:15-16.
The Alpha and the Omega
Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Omega is the last letter. Jesus is the beginning and the end of all things. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Alpha is the first letter: it refers to first love, the first calling. But you must go through the entire alphabet of God to reach omega. Those who persevere to the end will be saved.
“[...] But he who endures to the end will be saved.” Matthew 10:22.
The one who is, and was, and is to come
In this expression, we find God's plan in Jesus. The expression “the one who was” may sound inconsistent with the Lord Jesus, because there is no past for God. But the expression points to Jesus as a man. He was the prophet of Galilee, the man from Nazareth who died for us. Through the blood of Jesus, we have access to the Holy of Holies. The expression “who is” presents what He is for the life of the church: the one who reveals His plan to His servants. And finally, the expression “who is to come” refers to the one we will meet in the rapture. Thus, the expression “who is, who was, and who is to come” speaks of death, resurrection, and the rapture.
As a man, Jesus had no looks or beauty. He depended completely on the Father. He was the perfect servant. He did nothing without first listening to the Father. He gave
us this example. But after his resurrection, he said:
“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” Matthew 28:18.
He is the Almighty. He left heaven and came to earth to suffer for us. But when He completed His ministry and ascended back to where He came from, all power was given to Him. In heaven, He has all power because He reigns: He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus received all power to defeat all our enemies: sin, the enemy, and finally, death.
This Lord of lords, King of kings, who has all power in heaven and on earth, is presented in the book of Revelation in an extraordinary way. He is the one who loves us and, with His blood, has washed us from our sins.
“[,,,] to Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.” Revelation 1:5.
This means forgiveness, access to the throne of grace, and eternal salvation for us.
Who is the prince of the kings of the earth and the King of kings? It is the one who loves us, and who loves you. How confident we can be in our salvation! It is held in the hands of the Almighty who loves us, and He has proven it.:
“Greater love has no one other than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13.
May the Lord bless us
