We are excited to announce that Brooke Zacheis joined Inspira as our new vice president, Clinical Operations for Mullica Hill and Woodbury in early January.
Brooke comes to us from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and brings experience leading operations in various capacities, most recently as assistant vice president, Nursing Operations and Emergency Services. Brooke has led several operational improvement projects focused on enhanced throughput, patient experience and quality of care.
In her new role, Brooke will oversee the day-to-day operations of Inspira’s clinical areas at Mullica Hill and Woodbury, including
the emergency department, nursing operations, radiology, laboratory services, pharmacy, environmental services and many others. She will lead and manage the operations team to help achieve the goals and objectives of each department. She will also facilitate interdisciplinary planning and meetings with physicians, and will partner with nursing in the development and execution of the strategic plan to ensure our services are not only efficient, but also designed to meet the needs of our patients.
Inspira hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 20th to celebrate the addition of Salem Medical Center to its comprehensive health care system. The partnership between Inspira Health and Salem Medical Center – which is now known as Salem Medical Center, an affiliate of Inspira Health – will increase the access to convenient high-quality health care in South Jersey. This addition to Inspira Health includes Salem Medical Center’s hospital building, ambulatory surgery center and physician offices.
“It has been an honor to meet many of the newest members of the Inspira family and thank them for their unwavering commitment to their patients and the greater Salem community,” said Amy Mansue, president and CEO. “I’m grateful for all you have done and the warm welcome our leadership team has received as we work to enhance staffing to increase access, elevate the patient experience, and build a healthier South Jersey, together.”
Gathered were federal, state and local officials, and New Jersey Commissioner of Health Judy Persichilli, R.N., B.S.N., M.A., as well as senior leaders from Inspira Health. The full integration of Salem into Inspira Health is expected to take 12 to 24 months.
“We have an incredible opportunity to find new ways to innovate and care for our communities,” said Lydia Stockman, chief administrative officer for Inspira Medical Center. “We have a chance to redefine what quality health care means for South Jersey, and I am confident we can continue to stabilize, strengthen and build on the services Salem Medical Center, an affiliate of Inspira Health, provides.”

As Dr. Sarah Davis was placing an order in Cerner, she identified a Dose Range Alert for Ozempic and Trulicity. Dr. Davis Paying Attention to Detail, took a STAR Moment to Stop, knowing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently changed the dosing range for Ozempic from 0.5mg-1mg to 0.5mg-2mg and Trulicity from 0.75mg-1.5mg to 0.75mg-4.5mg.
Dr. Davis contacted Jody Beach, Clinical Ambulatory Pharmacist. Using our High Reliability Tool ARCC, Dr. Davis asked Jody if the new dosing regimen was updated in Cerner and requested if it was not yet updated if Jody could help in updating the new dosing regimen.
Jody thanked Dr. Davis for Speaking Up for Safety, and immediately investigated her concern. Jody identified the alert was not updated to match the new dosing regimen. An Information Systems ticket was submitted, and the alert was updated to include the correct dosing.
Had Dr. Davis not Spoken Up for Safety using our High Reliability Tool ARCC, this could have caused a potential medication error, resulting in an inadequate dose of Ozempic and Trulicity, which could lead to inadequate HgA1c control, adding on another medication and an increased cost for the patient.
The Inspira Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is honored to announce the graduation of the first Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class that was conducted for current Inspira Health employees. This unique class offering allowed current Inspira employees to transition from their existing positions into the EMS Department. Individuals from departments including Housekeeping, Storeroom, Dietary and others, decided to transfer from their current position to help fill a critical shortage of EMTs that exists throughout much of New Jersey.
On January 19, 2023, the graduates were joined by friends and family, along with members of our Emergency Medical Services Department and its leadership, at a ceremony recognizing these individuals who have committed to honorably serve their communities as well as Inspira.
Six employees successfully completed the EMT course, which began in late October and met eight hours each day over the course of three months consisting of classroom, online and field training activities. This fast-paced, intensive program challenged the students to develop the skills needed for them to provide emergency care to those experiencing illness or injuries at emergency scenes and during transportation to the hospital. These dedicated individuals will transition into full time positions serving as EMTs upon completion of their National Registry Certification Test.
As a direct result of the success of this program, the Department of Emergency Medical Services will be conducting a second offering of this EMT program for Inspira employees starting in March.
Caitlyn Pitman, nurse manager of the Elmer ICU and SDU, holds her department huddle at the nurse’s station where she reviews the “days since last” for the unit, completes a look back and look forward on patient care, employee safety and reviews items recently placed on the department Learning Board.
A recent item that landed in the Solved (green) section of the Learning Board was titled “Bladder Scanner”.
Caitlyn shared,
“During the beginning of 2022 at our department huddle, I reiterated the importance of using the Learning Board to request changes within the department, whether physical changes like supply needs or operational changes like review of policies and procedures. One of our nurses, Shannon Hunter, R.N., posted on the Learning Board that the unit needed its own bladder scanner. It was becoming a quality concern as all inpatient units were sharing the same piece of equipment which was often difficult to find and caused undue stress on the staff and potential delay in patient care.”
Kimberly Talley, vice president of Patient Services at Inspira Bridgeton, Elmer and Vineland was completing Executive Patient Safety Rounds in the Elmer ICU and asked the staff if they had everything to do their job. Shannon highlighted the bladder scanner request on the Learning Board. Kimberly thanked the staff for Speaking Up for Safety using our High Reliability Tool ARCC (Ask a question, Request a Change, Communicate a CONCERN, Chain of Command). It was subsequently approved through a Capital Expense request.
Caitlyn shared,
“The nursing staff are thrilled they have the equipment to better help them care for their patients in a timely manner. The nurse saw the power of the Learning Board and felt empowered to speak up for safety and quality outcomes.”
Bill Wiley, director of Security for Inspira Health, holds his department leadership huddle virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Bill begins the huddle with a look back and forward on any safety/security issues, concerns, or updates. Bill then calls for a report from each of his leaders. The information from his department leadership huddle is cascaded to the local department huddles, and highlevel issues are reported on the respective Daily Safety Briefing.
Bill shared,
“Items reviewed at huddle that cannot be resolved immediately are placed on our department Learning Board. A recent item we placed on the Learning Board that landed in the Solved (green) section was 'Rounds at Woodbury'. Our Inspira family has spoken up for safety and shared their concerns regarding the need for increased rounding at the Inspira Woodbury campus. Security increased rounds during all shifts on campus and in the parking garage. In addition,
Security is stationed in the parking lot during shift change and a security escort is available at any time to walk staff to their car. A Security escort can be requested by calling the Security Operations Center. In addition to the rounds, our Facilities team increased lighting to ensure the safety of our employees and patients.”
Christina Nunn, manager of Security at Inspira Woodbury shared,
“Security is a fast-moving department that is always evolving and growing. Most of the issues or challenges that surface are not only campus specific, but many times expand networkwide. The Learning Board is a great tool to use for multi-compound, multi-department and multi-location issues. It allows us to be sure we are inclusive of all departments in their needs and solve multi-layer problems most effectively. For Security, the Learning Board has been most effective for not only solving the problems but also communicating developing processes to the officers so they are consistent network-wide.”
