We partnered with and launched our Dispensary of Hope program to offer prescription medications free of charge to eligible patients who do not have prescription coverage or cannot afford out-of-pocket expenses. Our agreement with the Mid-Atlantic Mother’s Milk Bank of Pennsylvania has enabled us to provide human donor breast milk to more families with infants in our region—a crucial service that impacts our most vulnerable patients. The United States Department of Agriculture provided significant funds for new, state-of-the-art medical equipment at Inspira Medical Center Mannington, and Gary and Betty Galloway supported our enhanced neuroscience program. Finally, the scholarships we’ve provided in partnership with Rowan College and the John F. Scarpa Foundation empower future health care professionals to achieve their goals. Inspira’s ongoing dedication to community well-being has led to new and growing initiatives with remarkable results.

Our Substance Abuse Prevention Program has been instrumental in helping individuals on their road to recovery and preventing medication misuse. In addition, our Food Farmacy+ program continues to bring essential resources to families across Cumberland, Salem and Gloucester counties, directly addressing food insecurity in our communities. These programs are a beacon of hope for countless households in our region.

As always, the commitment of our employees is unwavering, and they remain at the heart of Inspira’s success and growth. In particular, I would like to congratulate Brittany Knestaut and Barbara Conicello for their Nursing Leadership Awards by the Organization of Nurse Leaders of New Jersey and to all our Top Doctors recognized across multiple prestigious platforms. These accolades reflect the exceptional talent and dedication within Inspira. We are proud to be DNV Certified for Stroke Readiness, distinguished with the American Hospital Association (AHA) Mission Lifeline Gold Award and recognized as American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACCN) Beacon Awards for Excellence recipients. Our Pathway to Excellence designation and Leapfrog “A” Hospital Safety Grades at Mullica Hill, Elmer and Vineland highlight our dedication to providing exceptional care to all we serve.

I am also proud to share that we have once again earned Top Workplace awards from NJ.com and the Philadelphia Inquirer . This recognition is a testament to the dedication and passion of our board of directors, senior leadership team, community stakeholders, volunteers, clinicians and employees. Your tireless efforts and collaborative spirit have made all our accomplishments possible.

Together, we’ve made significant strides in advancing health care and strengthening our community. Thank you for being an integral part of the Inspira Health family and for your relentless pursuit of excellence. I am excited to see what we will accomplish in the coming year.

Be well and stay safe,

Warren Moore

Dear Community Members,

I am thrilled and proud to share the remarkable progress we’ve made this past year. Our dedication to refining our priorities and organizational processes has led to numerous accomplishments in 2024, creating a safer and better experience for our patients, staff and community.

We recently launched a new growth plan to help us solidify our core foundation principles of safety, value, patient and staff experience, equity and quality. Our growth strategies include expanding services, improving access to care in our community and investing in our workforce—a crucial part of ensuring our long-term success. We celebrated the opening of several facilities, including Inspira Health Center Deptford, a new multi-service outpatient health center; Inspira Health Center Woodbury Pavilion, which includes a new behavioral health unit, satellite emergency department and EMS building; Inspira Primary Care Millville; and Inspira Medical Group Pediatrics Salem. We also broke ground on our multi-year expansion project at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill.

One of the greatest strides we have made is toward better meeting the diverse needs of our communities through our behavioral health program offerings. This year, we opened Autism Diagnostic Centers in Bridgeton and Woodbury, an Involuntary Behavioral Health unit in Mannington, an Inpatient Behavioral Health program in Woodbury and a Virtual Intensive Outpatient program for adolescents. I am so proud of our dedication to this important aspect of health care and all the teams involved in these initiatives.

We’ve also made a concerted effort to improve safety at all our facilities and face workplace violence head-on. To that end, we implemented the Evolv security screening, which uses advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to detect weapons. We also improved our visitor management system, requiring visitors to provide a photo ID upon arrival at our facilities. These measures are only part of our commitment to ensuring a safe environment for our patients, staff and visitors as the needs of our communities evolve.

As you know, everyone at Inspira continuously works to improve our processes and ability to deliver excellent care. Each of these projects represents a step toward significantly enhancing our capacity to deliver that care to those in our region. I’m immensely proud to lead our organization as we continue to meet our patients, staff and visitors where they are and work towards a healthier future together.

Sincerely,

Workplace Belonging

At Inspira, we have continued progressing toward creating a safe, diverse and supportive environment. Here are some ways we moved our Workplace Belonging initiatives forward in 2024.

Employee Resource Groups

We established four Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to ensure every employee has the opportunity to amplify their voice. These groups include Abled and Disabled Partnering Together (ADAPT), LGBTQ+ Affinity, Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG) and Women of Color.

Workplace Belonging Subcommittees

Our subcommittees, comprised of employees across departments and campuses, prioritized several goals to align with strategic imperatives and drive meaningful change. These key goals included launching ERGs, organizing networkwide cultural celebrations and educational opportunities, and analyzing and refreshing internal and external messaging to communicate our commitment to Workplace Belonging.

Workplace Belonging Events

Throughout the year, we celebrated holidays dedicated to recognizing diversity and inclusion in our community. On Juneteenth, educator Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington spoke with our team about the holiday’s deep significance, marking the end of slavery in the United States and celebrating resilience, freedom and the ongoing pursuit of equality for all.

During Pride Month, Inspira employees and Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) faculty joined together for a panel discussion on the history of the LGBTQ+ community in health care and how to better engage in allyship. We also revamped our social media logos for the month with the creative concept “Waves of Change,” representing our commitment to embracing the LGBTQ+ community.

We celebrated Global Diversity Awareness Month with Human Library events happening across all campuses. These events offered employees the opportunity to engage in open and insightful conversations with individuals who shared their personal stories and experiences. This initiative was designed to challenge stereotypes and broaden understanding of diverse perspectives.

Community Impact

Part of our mission is to improve the health and well-being of our community. Here are some of our most impactful community initiatives completed in 2024.

Substance Abuse Prevention Program

Families across South Jersey are affected by substance use disorder. Our team has tools to help individuals on their road to recovery and prevent misuse of medication. We distributed 141 Naloxone Kits to patients in our emergency departments (EDs) who were treated for opioid overdose or had a history of opioid use disorder. We also distributed 2,626 pouches of Deterra, an at-home medication disposal method.

With the Emergency Department Alternatives to Opioids Program grant, we reduced opioid prescriptions upon discharge from EDs by 33 percent . We have also reduced opioid administrations in our EDs by 15 percent

Food Farmacy+

Our most recent Community Health Needs Assessment revealed significant challenges and concerns related to food access among residents. To alleviate food insecurity across Cumberland, Salem and Gloucester counties, we offer a Food Farmacy+ at Inspira Health Centers Woodbury and Bridgeton. The program assisted 2,387 individuals across 880 households

Pathways Scholarships

As part of our partnership with Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ), we awarded 25 $2,000 scholarships to students enrolled in nursing and health profession degree programs and health care-related certificate programs at RCSJ.

John F. Scarpa Foundation Nursing Education Scholarships

As part of a $100,000 nursing education fund sponsored by the John F. Scarpa Foundation, two nursing students earned scholarships for their education.

Inspira Medical Center Mannington Earns USDA Equipment Grant

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development program announced a $1 million grant for state-of-the-art medical equipment at Inspira Medical Center Mannington.

Dispensary of Hope Program

Inspira’s Dispensary of Hope locations offer prescription medications free of charge to patients who do not have prescription eligible coverage or cannot afford out-of-pocket expenses. More than 120 patients filled over 440 prescriptions at the two Dispensary of Hope locations.

Cumberland County NJ Youth Violence Cessation Initiative

With funds from a $1 million federal grant through the Office of Justice Programs, we ran a 10-week, no-cost “Follow Me and Lead” summer camp . Along with Gateway Community Action Partnership, Inspira supported camp programming for more than 200 youth participants aged 7-17.

Community Impact

Bill Bottino Cancer Foundation Donation

The Bill Bottino Cancer Foundation gave $45,000 to fund cancer services enhancements at Inspira Medical Center Vineland’s Frank and Edith Scarpa Cancer Pavilion. The foundation has given over $689,000 to support our cancer services in Vineland.

Gary and Betty Galloway Neuroscience Fund

The Galloway family of Vineland donated funds to support the neuroscience program at Inspira. Initially used for advanced nursing education, the fund allowed two clinical nurse educators to attend a national conference on advances in stroke care.

Human Donor Breast Milk Program Expansion

Through an agreement with the Mid-Atlantic Mother’s Milk Bank of Pennsylvania, we made the human donor breast milk program available to all healthy babies whose parents want to exclusively feed their infants human milk. Previously, donor milk was reserved for preterm and critically ill babies.

Community Health Worker Program

Our Community Health Workers attended 36 community events throughout Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties. From January to December, 992 patients were referred to the program, 284 of whom were connected with services to reach their health goals. In August, the program had a 91 percent surge in referrals as screenings were implemented at four additional primary care locations.

Homelessness Prevention Initiative

Inspira awarded our Homelessness Prevention Initiative (HPI) grant to the Rural Development Corporation, which operates the Cumberland Family Shelter. This partnership helps address chronic homelessness in Cumberland County by supporting Housing First programs, establishing transitional housing programs and using a collective impact approach with progressive, customized engagement.

Patient Stories

Our patients are at the heart of everything we do. Here are some patient stories from 2024.

Amelia Holmes

Amelia struggled with her emotions, social interactions and behavioral issues throughout her childhood and early teenage years. Even after receiving accommodations at school and working through diagnoses of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety, she and her parents suspected something more was going on. The family scheduled a consultation at Inspira Health Center Woodbury’s Autism Diagnostic Center to finally get some answers. The Autism Diagnostic Center was able to diagnose Amelia with autism spectrum disorder and help her find resources for support.

“The diagnosis has given us more than just awareness, but also the acceptance and empowerment that will help Amelia succeed in life,”

said her father Bill.

“The entire team at the radiation center really touched my heart. Cindy [Fox] would tuck me in with a blanket during the treatments. I could feel how much they all cared for their patients. They weren’t just doing a job,” Minnie said.

Now, Minnie is busier than ever, helping to care for her large family and advocating for others to stay on top of their health care.

Minnie Hayman

Minnie wasn’t expecting her annual mammogram to lead to a breast cancer diagnosis. But when it happened, her primary care physician, Maurice Sheetz, M.D., assured her they would face it together, head-on. Minnie had radiation therapy treatments at Inspira Medical Center Vineland’s Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion, where she was treated like family.

“They made me feel like I wasn’t alone,” said Arielle. The next morning, Arielle went into labor and gave birth to her son, Nyx.

“[My labor and delivery nurse, Jessi Baldosaro, R.N.,] made the experience easier for me even though I was a bit scared. All the nurses were like that. No one acted like I was asking too much.”

Arielle Johnson

Arielle experienced cramping about two weeks before she was due to give birth to her first child. She went to the Inspira Medical Center Vineland Emergency Department, where she was assessed and admitted with concerns of preeclampsia. Neely Elisha, D.O., and the rest of the nursing and support staff put Arielle and her boyfriend, Ricky, at ease during their stay.

Events

Employee Events

In appreciation of the entire Inspira family, we held many employee events throughout 2024. Highlights of our employee events include Take Your Child to Work Day, Service Awards and Employee Appreciation Week. We also had two fun-filled days taking over Morey’s Piers at the iconic Wildwood Boardwalk, where over 5,400 employees and their families came out to enjoy the festivities.

Cancer Survivors Day

This annual event honors the cancer journeys of patients and their families and recognizes our clinical teams’ dedication to delivering the highest quality cancer care in South Jersey. In June, 100 people , including patients and their families, joined us for activities, crafts and refreshments at Green Branch Park in Pittsgrove

Dragon Boat Festival

In July, Inspira Health employees joined the Cancer Support Community New Jersey for their annual Dragon Boat Festival. This event raises awareness for those impacted by cancer.

Vineland Family Festival

In October, New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy hosted the Vineland Family Festival at Gittone Stadium. This free event featured food, music and entertainment for families, and the opportunity for parents to find an array of support resources and services throughout the community.

Sticks for Students

We partnered with the Philadelphia Wings to host a new “Sticks for Students” program, which aims to expand access to and knowledge of lacrosse and encourage healthy habits in our community. More than 400 students participated in these events.

Community and Screening Events

Inspira participated in over 100 events throughout the community, where we provided health care information and free screenings to individuals.

New Facilities

Inspira Health Center Deptford

In April, we opened our new multi-service outpatient health center in Gloucester County. Inspira Health Center Deptford is an 80,000-square-foot, energy-efficient building and offers an array of medical specialties, including primary care, OB/GYN, cardiac care and sports rehabilitation.

Inspira Medical Center

Mullica Hill Expansion

In October, we broke ground on our multiyear project to add 168,000 square feet of clinical space and more parking to our Mullica Hill campus. Services to be expanded include the intensive care unit, medical/surgical unit, mother/baby health, observation, imaging, interventional radiology and graduate medical education.

Inspira Health Center Woodbury Pavilion

We opened a new two-story pavilion and EMS building in Woodbury in the fall. The Inspira Health Center Woodbury Pavilion includes a 25,000-square-foot satellite emergency department and an 18,500-square-foot inpatient behavioral health program.

Support for Behavioral Health

We continued to grow our behavioral and mental health offerings in 2024, adding new facilities to support our community’s needs.

Facilities and program offerings include:

• Inspira Autism Diagnostic Centers Bridgeton and Woodbury

• Involuntary Behavioral Health Services at Inspira Medical Center Mannington

• Project Effective Mental and Behavioral Health Emergency Diversion (EMBHED)

• New Jersey Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program

• Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion: Let Everyone Advance with Dignity (LEAD)

New Primary Care Locations

• Inspira Primary Care Millville

• Inspira Primary Care Tomlin Station

• Inspira Primary Care Deptford

New Technology and Procedures

Behavioral Health

Adolescent Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program

This program offers comprehensive behavioral and mental health treatment from the comfort and familiarity of home. Teens ages 11-16 can participate in group therapy sessions multiple times per week, receive medication management and get additional support services—all while staying on track at school.

Automated Image Interpretation to Determine Transfer of Stroke Patients

Emergency medicine physician James Bonner, D.O., F.A.C.O.E.P., F.A.C.E.P., co-authored a study published in the Journal of Interventional Neuroradiology on the benefits of using an automated image interpretation and communication platform, Viz LVO (Viz.ai, Inc.), to determine the transfer of stroke patients within a hospital network. The study found that using this platform increased computed tomography angiography (CTA) use and thrombectomy availability, resulting in fewer unnecessary transfers outside of patient neighborhoods.

Evolv Security Screening

Our emergency departments at Vineland and Mullica Hill implemented Evolv, a touchless security screening solution that uses advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to detect weapons. This technology ensures the safety of our patients, staff and loved ones without long lines or invasive security checks.

New Visitor Management System

We launched a new visitor management system with a facial recognition function in January to enhance security and safety. Upon entering Inspira's hospitals and health centers, visitors are now required to provide a photo ID. Repeat visitors will have a more rapid registration due to a facial recognition function. This system allows us to proactively and quickly monitor who is coming into our buildings and where they are visiting, as well as identify individuals in our buildings at any given time should there be an emergency.

AI Technology at Inspira Hospitals

The Inspira nursing staff implemented a new artificial intelligence triage tool called KATE. This program uses patient symptoms and medical history to provide consistent, accurate and unbiased triage recommendations to nurses. This program doesn’t disrupt nurse workflows and works in the background to scan patient charts and produce a triage recommendation. KATE demonstrated accuracy in patient assessments, ensuring that patients received the care they needed promptly.

AngelEye Livestream at Vineland

The Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Inspira Medical Center Vineland began to offer a HIPAA-compliant livestream for families to see their newborns when they can’t make a trip to the hospital. The first of its kind in South Jersey, the AngelEye Health Camera System gives parents and loved ones the ability to stay by their baby’s side virtually, even when they’re far away or unable to come to the NICU.

Body Composition Scale

Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill added a SECA Body Composition Scale, which differentiates lean muscle mass and fat mass in patients. This tool helps providers determine the type of weight a patient is predominantly losing or gaining. Adding lean muscle mass and decreasing fat mass are important to creating a healthier lifestyle.

Residency Programs

Inspira trained 283 medical residents and fellows in 16 nationally accredited programs . We graduated 94 medical residents in July and filled all 106 resident slots during the match and post-match processes.

Partnerships

Inspira Health partnered with TriCare Medical Transportation to increase access to high-quality care for South Jersey residents. This partnership enabled us to nearly double our capacity, expand services to additional counties across South Jersey and continue to provide high-quality care and transportation services in emergency and nonemergency situations.
