WELCOME

Our Inspira Health Foundation team is honored to share that in 2023, more than 1,950 donors have invested $3.5 million into Inspira Health. These contributions can be seen at work across the Southern New Jersey region by assisting patients in our Cancer Centers, providing clinical employees with educational scholarships, saving infants’ lives in our NICU, and in our behavioral health expansion efforts. Additionally, we welcome our 480+ new donors to our Inspira Health family, and ensure you that your gift is already at work helping to create a healthier South Jersey community.

We celebrate you, our Inspira Health Foundation philanthropic partners, and thank you for taking an active role to help guarantee that the highest quality care is available right here in your backyard. Because of your commitment and support, our community is continuously reaching new health care milestones.

The coming year will be a new and interesting one for Peter, as he has announced his retirement as of January 31, 2024. Inspira colleague Robin Walton will be assuming the role of Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Foundation. Read more about Robin’s experience below.

Above all else, we hope that – despite these changes – you will continue to support Inspira Health Foundation.

Thank you, again, for making Inspira Health one of your philanthropic priorities. Together, we are making a significant difference right here in South Jersey.

ABOUT ROBIN

Robin Walton joined Inspira Health in August 2021 as the Senior Vice President of Government and External Affairs. She manages Inspira’s relationships with federal, state, and local governments, regulatory agencies, key policymakers, and community stakeholders. In this new role, Robin will assume Peter’s responsibilities, while also maintaining her current ones, in an expanded role as Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Chief Philanthropy Officer. The Inspira Health Foundation team and Board of Trustees have the utmost confidence in Robin.

2023 Funded Projects & Initiatives

Philanthropy allows us to go above and beyond to address the health care needs of patients in our region. Contributions to Inspira Health Foundation help to create programs and services that support our patients, advances cuttingedge technology, and fund facility enhancements to enrich the health and wellness of our community.

In 2023, more than 1,950+ philanthropic partners invested $3.5 million through the Foundation to support the mission of Inspira Health. Because of your philanthropy, we were able to support projects and initiatives such as these in our community.

In Patient Relations:

Providing discharged patients in need with clothing, to prevent them from leaving in hospital gowns or soiled clothing

In Behavioral Health:

Incorporating lavender aromatherapy oils and diversionary crafting projects to decrease stress levels of voluntary patients

In Research:

Studying the effects of weighted blankets to see if they improve patient rest/sleep while admitted in replace of a sleeping pill

In Nursing Recovery:

Sponsoring an engaging workshop for nurses to mitigate the effects of trauma in the profession and teach skills for recovering from trauma

INSPIRA HEALTH FOUNDATION 4

In Dialysis:

Offering patients warmed blankets during dialysis, as they can often get cold during treatment

In Residency:

Covering the publication of an orthopaedic resident’s research, as resident research is an important part of the fellowship process

In Care Coordination:

Ensuring parents can provide safe sleeping arrangements and transportation of their newborn before discharge by providing parents-in-need with essentials such as car seats, pack and plays, or diaper bags

In Maternal Child Health:

Suggesting newborns’ parents use joeybands to support the “Eat Sleep Console” method, which helps with correct positioning and support for skinto-skin contact

Thank you for supporting projects and initiatives such as these in our health care system!

Kindness is Contagious

Expressing gratitude is an integral part of a patient’s healing process. Recognizing and acknowledging that gratitude lets the patient and their family know that we have listened, and we appreciate their thoughtfulness! And when employees receive a patients’ gratitude, it makes them feel better about the jobs they are doing.

Veronica R.: With great appreciation and gratitude, I cannot express the words to say what a difference you made towards my stay at Inspira. From 6:00am until leaving, each one of you greeted me with bright and smiling faces. All of you showed compassion from the beginning of my stay until leaving. I have never seen a hospital staff complement each other like this. Magnificent!

Elena B.: Dr. Suarez, thank you for delivering me safely, for taking such great care of my mommy, and for being so sensitive to my sister’s early prenatal diagnosis! Thank you for giving us detailed information and supporting our decision to get a second opinion on her cystic hygroma! You have made a huge difference in our lives. Providers like you give us hope! We appreciate the life-giving work that you do.

Joe L.: I cannot single out a single person because the entire surgical team was fantastic. I was in and out in a few hours and can say that the abdominal repair was an unqualified success. The coordination, skill, and care of the team was impressive. Inspira is MY medical network and I spread the word at every chance!

Michele S.: During my thoracentesis and stay at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, Kelly made me feel calm and stayed by my side through all my hurdles. Kelly even took the time to come see me when I was put on another floor. She was definitely the familiar face I got to see when I came in months later and she helped remove my catheter. She was a godsend and so compassionate.

Philanthropic Impact in Cancer Care

Inspira Health understands the uncertainty that comes with a cancer diagnosis, and we will do everything in our power to ensure a positive outcome while providing the support you and your loved ones need.

In 2023, the Foundation was able to support oncology patients in a multitude of ways. Here are some ways donor contributions were used last year:

Six Infusion Chairs:

Providing six chairs in the infusion area, which had previously been closed off. With restrictions being lifted and volume growing, this area will be used for additional patient care

Art Therapy:

Addressing the increasing need for mental health services for oncology patients by providing support groups to express their feelings through art

Patient Assistance:

Financially supporting 59 oncology patients’ medical supplies, nutritional supplements, wigs, prescription co-pays, and more

Relief During Treatment:

Offering oncology patients aromatherapy tabs that clip onto their shirts to aid in relaxation and provide anti-nausea relief during treatment

Holistic Treatment:

Providing reiki services to cancer patients, which is a form of energy healing, and is a holistic treatment that oncology patients have expressed wanting access to

Beauty & Wellness

Workshop:

Supporting women who are losing their hair and addressing skincare changes that may occur during treatment

INSPIRA HEALTH FOUNDATION 8

Philanthropic Impact through the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund

The Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund (DFSMF) is a restricted fund, meaning only the earnings from the investment are used to support the neonatal and pediatric departments at Inspira Medical Center Vineland. As the fund grows larger, more children will be impacted. In 2023 the DFSMF hit a $1 million dollar milestone, which will help to support the vital health care needs of children. Thank you to the Italian Cultural Foundation for pushing the fund over the million dollar mark!

Additionally, thank you to the Buono Family, whose 2023 gift in memory of Rosemary Buono will be funding the AngelEye technology in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) –cameras that offer live-streamed patient viewing and secure one-way messaging anytime, anywhere to encourage bonding and integrate parents into the care team. This technology will be implemented mid-2024.

A Message From Our CEO

This past year was one of immense growth for Inspira Health, and we have YOU – our philanthropic partners – to thank. You remain steadfast in your dedication to the health of our patients and community. Your philanthropy is critically important to supporting the mission of Inspira and amplifies our impact. Thank you for being such a vital part of our Inspira family.

With your leadership and support, we have continued to make progress on our mission of providing South Jersey residents with increased access to quality health care with new locations, providers, services and community resources. We are delivering safe, high-quality care beyond our network walls to our broader South Jersey region.

Early in the year, we celebrated the topping off of our Woodbury redevelopment project, which will result in a satellite emergency department and behavioral health unit. We have also completed a number of renovations and updates at Inspira Medical Center Vineland, including advanced medical imaging technology, a new cath lab, expanded interventional radiology services and improved emergency department and pharmacy facilities.

I could not forget one of our biggest accomplishments of the year: finalizing the integration of Salem Medical Center into our health system. Now known as Inspira Medical Center Mannington, this hospital allows us to reach more community members in Salem County.

Continuing in the spirit of collaborative care, we launched Cooper and Inspira Neuroscience following the six-year success of Cooper and Inspira Cardiac Care. We launched a partnership with Atlantic Medical Imaging (AMI) and Regional Diagnostic Imaging (RDI) at nine existing outpatient imaging locations across South Jersey. And we grew our premier partnership with Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) with the new Allied Health and Respiratory Therapy program, Nursing and Health Professions Center expansion project, Pathway to Nursing education program and scholarship options for students in health care field. To date, more than 400 employees have participated in the RCSJ program.

I am honored to recognize the following Journey of Life society members in the pages that follow. On behalf of myself and all leaders at Inspira, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and unwavering support of Inspira Health, our patients, and the South Jersey community. We could not have accomplished all we did without you.

With gratitude,

$100,000 to Fund Nursing Education Scholarships at Inspira Health

Two new annual scholarship funds for nursing students have been established by the John F. Scarpa Foundation, one of which honors Elizabeth “Betty” Sheridan for her 24 years of leadership upon her retirement as Chief Administrative Officer for Inspira Medical Centers Elmer and Vineland. The other scholarship will bear the name of the donor, whose generous support of Inspira Medical Center Vineland and the Frank and Edith Scarpa Regional Cancer Pavilion date back to the opening of these community institutions.

This year’s nursing scholarship recipients are Jennifer Martin-Pierce and Pricilla Jones. “When choosing to advance my education, I knew it would be expensive. I applied for a scholarship knowing it would help me so much. I pay for school out of pocket and this scholarship helped me tremendously because it helped pay for a course and all the materials I needed for it. It may seem small but the benefits are enormous. I am one course closer to finishing my MSN in education which puts me closer to using what I have learned to give back to Inspira and continuing providing patients with the best care experience!” said Pricilla Jones.

Lifelong South Jersey Resident Robert Penza Makes a Planned Gift Toward Inspira Health Programs

Robert A. Penza is a lifelong South Jersey resident, the president of Samuel Coraluzzo, Co & Torrisi Transport LLC, located in Hammonton, NJ and owner of RAP Performance Apparel & Promotional Items in Vineland, NJ. Robert has deep roots in Cumberland County and continues to be involved in the community, which is why he chose to designate his planned gift to three specific Inspira Health initiatives – Inspira Health Cancer Care, Cardiac Care, and the Deborah F. Sager Memorial Fund.

Robert’s act to designate the planned gift to these programs is a testament to the power of empathy and compassion. Behind each of these Inspira Health initiatives lies Robert’s unique story of connection and motivation – whether it be a personal battle with illness, a desire to improve healthcare outcomes, or a wish to offer hope to the most fragile lives. Robert’s generous contributions not only strengthen healthcare programs but also serve as a reminder of the incredible act of kindness within all of us.

Mount Laurel Councilman Continues to Support his Hometown of Vineland

For Nikitas “Nick” Moustakas, a family history of heart disease made the Foundation’s All Heart Campaign’s goal personal. A plaque was placed in Inspira Medical Center Vineland to recognize Moustakas’ gift toward the campaign, and honor the memory of his father, Ioannis Moustakas.

Moustakas previously served on the South Jersey Healthcare Foundation Board, and is both a past and current trustee of the Inspira Health Foundation Board. He serves his community as a member of the Town Council of Mount Laurel, Burlington County, and is the managing partner of the law firm of Moustakas Nelson LLC.

“We are so grateful to Nick’s many years of Foundation Board service and financial support,” said Amy B. Mansue, President and CEO of Inspira Health. “Our health system depends on philanthropy to help us enhance care and elevate the patient experience. Generous gifts, like the one we celebrate today, have a positive impact that is felt across our community.”

Inspira Health Hosts Cancer Survivor’s Day Celebration

Inspira Health hosted a Cancer Survivor’s Day celebration in recognition of Cancer Survivor’s Day, held around the world on the first Sunday of every June. This is an annual celebration of life that provides an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize those who have supported them along the way. Inspira held the celebration at Green Branch Park in Pittsgrove Township, New Jersey for anyone who has been affected by cancer.

More than 100 people attended and enjoyed music, family friendly games, arts and crafts and face painting. Additionally, the event offered complimentary refreshments, health screenings and wellness information. Each cancer survivor was recognized with special gifts and gathered for a group photo.

The Foundation sponsored Cancer Survivor’s Day by providing funds to support some of the day’s activities.

Inspira Health Expands Community Health Worker Program thanks to Generous Donor Gift

Inspira Health has announced the expansion of the Community Health Worker (CHW) program in the city of Millville. The CHW program will be accessible to residents of Millville, regardless of insurance status or socio-economic conditions.

Community Health Workers are crucial public health workers that serve as a bridge between communities, and the health care and social service systems. They often help patients navigate health care, support new parents, and link people to relevant programs and resources.

The launch event also recognized the generous contribution of Jane and Peter Galetto, who provided the necessary funding to expand the Community Health Worker program in Millville.

“It is our goal to help improve lives in Millville and the surrounding areas by connecting them with available resources through the efforts of the Community Health Worker,” said Peter Galetto. “We hope that the results of this pilot program will demonstrate the value of this program and the need for broader and more long-term support.”

Inspira Family is “All in!”

Gifts from members of our Inspira Family are particularly meaningful because they send a resounding message from those who know Inspira best – they demonstrate to colleagues, patients, and the community that our employees truly believe in the mission of Inspira Health.

In 2023, more than 1,400 members of the Inspira Family supported our non-profit health care organization, raising over $588,000. This support shows that our members of the Inspira Family are genuinely invested in the kind of organization Inspira is and what it can be.

Of those 1,400 employee donors, 665 participated during the 2023 “ALL in!” Employee Giving Campaign, which runs annually from the first week of September – Giving Tuesday.

Thank you, Inspira Health employees, for going above and beyond to support the development of our non-profit health care network.

Inspira Physician Pays it Forward

A generous gift helped Dr. James Baird, IV achieve his dream of becoming an Emergency Medicine physician. Today, as the program director of the Emergency Medicine Residency program at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill, he teaches, mentors, and encourages the next generation of ER physicians who will care for our community.

Dr. Baird’s pursuit of a medical career was made possible through a gift from a generous philanthropist named John Palmer Osterman (JPO). He influenced and motivated people around him to be energetic, enthusiastic about life, and strive to be better. JPO invested in people, especially those he felt who deserved a chance to have their dreams accelerated. He saw something special in Dr. Baird and supported him in pursuit of his dream to become an Emergency Medicine physician.

The generous support Dr. Baird received to fund his medical education inspired his passion for paying it forward. This experience, and his intimate knowledge of the health challenges our community faces, has motivated him to generously support Inspira Health Foundation.

A plaque bearing the name John P. Osterman, and recognizing Dr. Baird’s generosity, now hangs outside a resuscitation room in the Emergency Department at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill. “Every day I come to work, it will be a reminder of the gift that was given to me, my responsibility to pay it forward, and my personal gratitude for God putting a man like John P. Osterman in my life,” said Dr. Baird. “I encourage all of my colleagues, friends, co-workers and anyone who wants to create healthier communities in South Jersey, to give back by supporting Inspira Health Foundation.”
