Welcome
Thanks to you and countless others, 2022 exceeded our expectations.
We were finally able to get back into the community, meet one-to-one with more of our philanthropic partners, and see the impact that your contributions have made on our patients and community. Today, we are here to share that impact with you!
Feeling this contagious energy has fueled our fire and recommitted us to the mission of Inspira Health Foundation – to create programs and services that support Inspira’s patients, advance cutting-edge technology, and fund facility enhancements to enrich the health and wellness of our community.
We are honored to share that in 2022, more than 1,990 donors have invested nearly $3.3 million into Inspira Health. These contributions can be seen at work across the Southern New Jersey region in our cancer programs, educational scholarships, neonatal care services, and in our behavioral health expansion efforts. Additionally, we welcome more than 670 new donors to our Inspira Health family, and ensure you that your gift is already at work helping to create a healthier South Jersey community.
We celebrate you, our Inspira Health Foundation philanthropic partners, and thank you for taking an active role to help guarantee that the highest quality care is available right here in your backyard. Because of your commitment and support, our community is continuously reaching new health care milestones.
Thank you, again, for making Inspira Health one of your philanthropic priorities. Together, we are making a significant difference right here in South Jersey.

2022 FUNDED PROJECTS & INITIATIVES
As a highly reliable organization, Inspira is committed to providing our patients with the full continuum of care… but philanthropy enables us to do MORE.
Philanthropy allows us to go above and beyond to address the health care needs of patients in our region. Contributions to Inspira Health Foundation help to create programs and services that support our patients, advance cutting-edge
technology, and fund facility enhancements to enrich the health and wellness of our community.
In 2022, more than 1,990 philanthropic partners invested nearly $3.3 million through the Foundation to support the mission of Inspira Health. Together through philanthropy, we were able to support projects and initiatives such as these in our community.
Simulab Central Venous Catheterization Training Model
Emergency Department at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill – This equipment provides enhanced training tools for emergency department medical residents, allowing them to train on and earn certification in autonomous central line placement. This expedites care when time is critical and enhances the level of care our physicians are able to provide to the community we serve.
Adult Activity Books for Patients
Guest Services at Inspira Medical Centers Mullica Hill, Vineland, and Elmer – The Foundation funded an assortment of activity books, coloring books, and colored pencils to have when patients contact Volunteer/Guest Services requesting something to do.
Giraffe Infant Incubator
Maternal Child Health at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill – These isolette beds enable our clinicians to provide care for infants while maintaining the baby’s body temperature. There was only one of these giraffe beds in the unit. Funding another one allows the team to provide more of this quality care to infants.
Furniture for the Zen Den
Outside the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Inspira Medical Center Vineland – The implementation of mindful meditation and opening of a meditation room has improved this unit’s patient interactions and decreased their errors. This can also be measured in our employee engagement scores as staff have been asking for a meditation room.
4 INSPIRA HEALTH FOUNDATION
Mindfulness Bathroom
Cardiac Progressive Care Unit at Inspira Medical Center Vineland – With the success of the mindfulness rooms, nursing council members decided that it would be beneficial to adapt the same concept to the staff bathroom. Depending on the day’s stressors, staff only have time for a quick bathroom break and feel the Mindfulness room would take an extra effort on their part to be used. The idea behind the concept of the Mindfulness bathroom is that it will provide the same calming environment to help reduce staff stress levels with less effort.
Bereavement Resources
Network-wide – Contributed to the newly developed bereavement packets to be given to families of those who pass in one of our facilities.
pH Testing
Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill (available network-wide for patients) – Expanding GI services, to include pH testing - the standard to confirm a gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as determine the severity and duration of the disease. Previously patients requiring this test needed to seek care elsewhere, as it was not an available service in our network.
Sponge Detection Initiative
ORs and Labor & Delivery Units at Inspira Medical Centers Mullica Hill, Vineland, and Elmer – Acquired new technology that assists with the elimination of retained sponges, a constant concern nationwide in all surgical areas. This technology allows patients to be scanned prior to closing the surgical site to provide confirmation that all sponges have been removed from the surgical site.
Decreasing Patient Stress
Adult Behavioral Health at Inspira Health Center Woodbury — To decrease stress levels of voluntary patients in the Behavioral Health Unit, team members proposed incorporating aromatherapy oils and diversionary crafting projects. Staff members are measuring patients’ engagement and stress levels before and after project implementation.
Thank you for supporting projects and initiatives such as these in our community!

EVENTS
After two years of foregoing our Grand Gala due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were thrilled to have all our signature events back on the calendar in 2022! We even tried one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation with our inaugural Pickleball Tournament!
On June 4, the Foundation welcomed back its Grand Gala at Water Works, which raised more than $525,000. Thank you to our presenting sponsor, Archer Law.
On May 16, the Golf Classic, held annually at Tavistock Country Club, exceeded expectations by raising more than $175,000.
On September 7, the Golf Tournament at Seaview Hotel and Golf Club raised more than $250,000.
To close out a year of outstanding events, on October 22, the Foundation hosted its inaugural Pickleball Tournament at Total Turf Experience, which raised more than $18,000.

KINDNESS IS CONTAGIOUS
Expressing gratitude is an integral part of a patient’s healing process. Recognizing and acknowledging that gratitude lets the patient and their family know that we have listened, and we appreciate their thoughtfulness! And when care teams receive patients’ gratitude, it makes them feel better about the jobs they are doing.
Throughout this report you will see messages from Inspira Health patients that are grateful for the care they received. These messages are shared with the care teams so they know the impact they have made on a patient or a patient’s family. Your support creates this high-quality care experience that our patients are so thankful for.
Michelle K. Thank you so much to Dr. Kulkarni, Dr. Roy, and Dr. Fanelle. You have been so amazing, kind, compassionate, and patient during my whole cancer journey. I appreciate the three of you more than you could imagine. I would also like to thank all the nurses and staff at the cancer pavilion for being so kind and generous to me. Your job does not go unnoticed. I am so grateful that I chose Inspira for my health care journey. I could not thank you enough for everything.
Andrea K. In January, a nodule was found in my breast, and I was told I needed a biopsy. Nurse Kelly walked me through everything and explained it all as we went, and was even with me the day of the biopsy holding my hand. It made me feel so much more at ease and like I really mattered. She is truly a caring person.
Mary Jane S. All the staff at the East Vineland Urgent Care was top notch! Checking in was easy, the Medical Assistant was very nice, and Dr. Bliss was so pleasant. I received my flu diagnosis promptly, and my medication order was quickly sent to my pharmacy. Thank you for great care!

ALL HEART CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Since we launched the All Heart campaign last year to support the expansion of Inspira Health’s cardiology care, we have reached milestones both on a clinical front and as a fundraising campaign!
In January Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill received its license to provide elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and Inspira Medical Center Vineland’s license followed shortly after in June. By July, Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill’s cardiac catheterization team was gathering to celebrate its 100th elective PCI performance. In just a few months, this team had provided proactive and potentially life-saving cardiac care to more than 100 patients, demonstrating a clear need for this procedure within the community.
Thank you to our philanthropic partners who have contributed more than $1.8 million toward the network-wide All Heart campaign. With your support, we are expanding Inspira’s breadth of cardiac services across our system to ensure community members have access to life-enhancing – and often life-saving – care close to their homes.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CAMPAIGN CHAIR
We probably all know someone who has been affected by heart disease… maybe a family member, a friend, or even yourself! After all, it is the leading cause of death in our country.
I was honored to share my story in the 2021 Annual Report of Giving, but I feel even luckier to be here today to share more about my cardiac journey – and boy, is it a journey.
In 2019 I had a stress test that revealed blockages in my coronary arteries, which were limiting blood flow to my heart. Dr. Kurt Kaulback suggested an elective PCI (to take place at Cooper University Hospital since it could not be done at the time within Inspira), where a stent would be placed to re-open my arteries. Soon after in 2020, symptoms began to resurface, and I underwent triple bypass open heart surgery at only 46 years old.
In 2021 it was announced that community hospitals – such as Inspira Health – could now provide non-emergent, elective PCI (the stent procedure I previously received at Cooper University Hospital). As a longtime supporter of Inspira Health, I was thrilled and jumped on board to help in any way I could. A few months later in early 2022, Inspira Medical Centers Mullica Hill and Vineland received their licenses to provide elective PCI – and I’m thankful they did. Because in September, I underwent another elective PCI, this time at Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill. Everyone thinks “that will never happen to me”... I know I did! I was healthy and active, running 25 miles a week. I never thought that I would be here today, having had multiple stenting procedures and a triple bypass open heart surgery all before I’m 50.
I understand more than most just how essential it is to have access to high-quality cardiology services, because you truly never know when you or someone you love will need it.
With your support of the All Heart campaign, we will expand Inspira Health’s cardiology services — increasing accessibility to proactive and life-saving cardiac care within our community for your families, friends, neighbors, and patients of all ages!
Please consider making an investment in high-quality health care for our region. On behalf of Inspira Health, thank you in advance for your consideration.
Jeffrey George Community Member & All Heart Campaign Chair

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
While we continue to face COVID-19 related challenges, 2022 will be remembered as the year that we began to emerge from the pandemic.
It was a year of growth and innovation for Inspira Health, as we implemented advanced procedures and technologies in cardiology, neurology, spinal surgery, oncology, physical therapy and more. We also saw tremendous growth of our residency program, with six new residency tracks, as we meet the needs of the health care industry both locally and at large.
We conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment, which gave us direction for our community focus points for 2023 and beyond. It reaffirmed how essential our community impact initiatives –such as Community Health Workers, mobile van screenings, and our Food Farmacy+ program – are in helping to deliver care to those who need it most.
We continued to expand services and staffing resources in our existing facilities, where we introduced more EMS locations, an endoscopy center at Vineland, a sleep center at Woolwich, a primary care location in Upper Deerfield and a LIFE center in Williamstown.
We also acquired a number of new locations to serve even more members of the South Jersey community, our biggest of which was Salem Medical Center, now an affiliate of Inspira Health. This partnership has allowed us to serve the residents of Salem County with additional health care resources and services. And we are continuing to broaden our reach as we work toward opening a new health center in Deptford and redeveloping our existing health center in Woodbury.
Through it all, patient safety was at the forefront, with our work in 2022 demonstrating the principles of high reliability day in and day out. We are creating programs around YOUR needs, and your support is making it happen.
There are still many milestones to recognize from the past year and much to look forward to in 2023. I want to thank our entire Inspira family for their professionalism, expertise, and dedication this year. I also want to thank our patients for trusting Inspira to care for you and your families.

Inspira Health Foundation Donates Former Office
Space to Build Vineland Endoscopy Suite
In October, Inspira Health hosted an open house for its new outpatient endoscopy center, located in the Medical Office Building on its Vineland campus. With the new center open, most patients requiring an outpatient upper endoscopy or colonoscopy will experience the convenience and efficiency of a true outpatient experience. Prior to its opening, these studies and treatments were performed in the hospital’s endoscopy suite.
In support of the new center, Inspira Health Foundation donated the ownership of its former office space (two full suites) to the project. This generous donation reduced the cost of the project and allowed the center to be located in the existing Medical Office Building, which is adjacent to Inspira Medical Center Vineland.
Laurie S. I cannot possibly select just one Inspira Health Care Hero, since I have had the good fortune of interacting with so many wonderful individuals here since my breast cancer diagnosis in March. The physicians, nurses, and support staff all have so much knowledge and compassion, which they continually share with me each visit. Every one of them has helped make the most difficult year of my life a little bit brighter. I researched and visited several other hospital systems after my diagnosis, and each one made me feel even more confident in choosing Inspira for my treatment. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the care you have provided me during the scariest time in my life.

Many of the health outcomes we see in our communities are influenced by factors other than clinical care. These non-clinical factors that influence a health outcome are called social determinants of health, and can be economic, environmental, and/or social conditions such as lack of housing, access to transportation, or food insecurity.
Inspira is committed to addressing our region’s social determinants of health, and is doing so by implementing Community Health Workers in regions of the greatest at-risk needs. To do so requires a long term commitment to working with members of the community where they often receive care, in one of Inspira’s primary care offices. This long term approach begins with creating pilot programs which build on lessons learned and establishing supportive technology to optimize the potential for connecting with other community based organizations.
The major function of the Community Health Worker is to act as a caring neighbor to help patients address the social, medical, and community problems that lead to poor health. The goal is to help patients deal with the ‘real life’ issues that keep them from staying healthy, help with the tasks of getting medical care, and work on health goals by doing things like planning healthy meals or finding time to exercise.
In 2023, through generous support by Peter and Jane Galetto, Inspira will be launching a pilot Community Health Worker program in Millville for all patients, regardless of insurance status.

Inspira Health Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Deborah F. Sager
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Inspira Health and Nemours Children’s Health celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Deborah F. Sager Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Inspira Medical Center Vineland with a carnival-themed reunion. NICU graduates and their family members, approximately 200 in all, attended the event and reunited with the nurses, neonatologists and others who cared for them during their earliest and most fragile days.
Anthony & Janice Thank you Dr. Aquilino for always being there and helping us with any issues we may have. The information you share is much appreciated and a guiding light for us both. Coming to visit you is like visiting a friend in a comfortable environment. We can talk to you about anything and know your guidance will always takes us down the right path. You are so deserving of this message of gratitude. Thank you so much for all that you do.

South Jersey Woman Shares Breast Cancer Journey with Inspira Health by Her Side
Mullica Hill resident Missy Cosgrove took getting her annual mammograms very seriously—until the COVID-19 pandemic derailed her routine visits in 2020. In 2021, Missy received news she never thought she would hear… she had breast cancer. With her family, friends, and the team at Inspira’s Leading-Edge Cancer Center by her side, Missy faced her diagnosis head on. Today, she is in remission and hopes her story can be an inspiration to others.
In honor of Missy’s battle against cancer and the support she received from her care team, Missy and her husband Joe made a generous contribution toward Inspira Health’s cancer patient assistance efforts. These funds provide financial support to oncology patients for medical supplies, nutritional supplements, wigs, prescription co-pays, and more.
Thank you, Missy and Joe, for expressing your gratitude in a way that will benefit others.

Making an Impact, Leaving a Legacy
In their more than 40 years of marriage, Gary and Betty Galloway have done everything together as a team – including serving organizations they are passionate about, such as the local police departments, YMCA, and Inspira Health.
After decades of leadership and support, the two came to the Inspira Health Foundation team and expressed their interest in supporting the health care system’s neurological programs with a generous estate gift.
“We’ve witnessed, firsthand, the effects neurological diseases can have – we’ve experienced it with our own friends and family and have seen the toll it takes on their loved ones,” said Gary. He explained, “If we can help to ease the pain that even just one patient may experience and the grief their friends and family endure, our gift will be worth it.”
Estate gifts are an important and everlasting way to continue to advance causes you are passionate about and to enable your legacy to live on in service of your passions. Because of their generosity, Gary and Betty’s support of Inspira Health’s Neurology Department will benefit patients and their families suffering from debilitating neurological diseases right here in our community for years to come.

Daniel P. Christina went above and beyond to make sure I was feeling alright and had plenty of fluids to drink. If I had a question, she made sure she got an answer. She listened and showed interest in what I had to say. She made me feel like a human being, not just a patient. I would like to say thank you for all you did to make my stay less stressful. And thank you to everyone else for taking care of me during my stay at the hospital.

Please let us know if you’ve made a provision in your estate plan to support Inspira Health. We would be honored to recognize your generosity as a member of the Heritage Society.
Inspira Family is “All in!”
Gifts from members of our Inspira Family are particularly meaningful because they send a resounding message from those who know Inspira best – they demonstrate to colleagues, patients, and the community that our employees truly believe in the mission of Inspira Health.
In 2022, more than 1,390 members of the Inspira Family supported our nonprofit health care organization, raising over $1.3M. This support shows that our members of the Inspira Family are genuinely invested in the kind of organization Inspira is and what it can be.
Of those 1,390 employee donors, 620 participated during the 2022 “ALL in!” Employee Giving Campaign, which runs annually from the first week of October – Giving Tuesday.
Thank you, Inspira Health employees, for going above and beyond to support the development of our non-profit health care network.
Janice D. Dr. Flatley, I would like to thank you for being kind, gentle, and professional. You are always there with a smile and have helped me through my challenges. Thank you for being the one who has diagnosed me, addressed any issues, and helped me to take care of those problems. You deserve to be acknowledged and recognized for your hard work and kind demeanor.

Vicki D. Even though all my nurses were wonderful, it is the ladies who brought my meals that I would like to thank. I had my right shoulder replaced, and I am right-handed. I was unable to cut my meat, butter my roll, open my soda, etc. These ladies very willingly, and with a smile, did these things for me so that I could eat. It was a small act, but it made all the difference to me. I was very grateful and feel these workers should be commended for going above and beyond. Thank you so much, ladies!

Robert H. Thank you to Dr. Lowther and his staff. The compassion and care that was given to our dad was something we will always be so very grateful for. You and your staff made this difficult time easier to get though. It takes a special type of person to do what you all do. The kindness of you and your staff made him look forward to coming for his treatments. The support of your team made all the difference, and we are so grateful to all of you.

Establishing the “Nykola and Alyce Kudla Nursing Education Scholarship”
A long-time Millville educator and lifelong community member, Alyce Kudla’s generous gift to Inspira Health Foundation will provide financial support to Inspira nurses pursuing educational opportunities for years to come. She made her gift in honor of her late husband Nick and their shared appreciation for the positive impact of education on the community, and as a way to continue providing education and impacting the lives of others. Her contribution is funding the Nykola and Alyce Kudla Nursing Education Scholarship, to assist Inspira nurses who are enrolling in courses to expand their skillsets and advance their careers.

Jennifer In the last 4+ years we have dealt with many doctors and nurses from Maryland to New York, and we cannot find the words to express how different we found Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill. The way the doctor sat next to us, talked, and truly listened to us was something we have never experienced. We love this hospital and will be coming back.

Honoring Betty Sheridan’s Dedication of Service and Leadership
After more than 20 years with the organization, Regional Chief Administrative Officer Betty Sheridan shared she will be retiring in late February 2023. Betty spent more than 55 years in health care, beginning as a critical care nurse, serving in several leadership and advocacy roles, and ultimately serving as Inspira Health’s Regional Chief Administrative Officer.
With her deep understanding of nursing and their invaluable role in shaping policy and decisions in health care, Betty has provided mentorship and guidance to our nursing staff at Inspira, creating a culture of excellence that has led to nationally-recognized projects and original research.
To recognize Betty’s service and leadership, the John F. Scarpa Foundation established a nursing education scholarship in her honor. The scholarship will be awarded to an Inspira Health nurse who is enrolled in courses to expand their skillsets and advance their careers, something Betty was always advocating for. This will help to develop the most caring and skillful nurses by providing educational and professional development opportunities to Inspira Health nurses looking to further their experience, and helping to ensure the best possible care for patients in our communities.
