Message from Mayor Frank C. Ortis Dear Reader: Please take note of recycling and bulk services information for the City of Pembroke Pines. All residential waste and recycling programs remain the same now through January 1, 2022. Residents are asked to please continue to separate garbage and recycling in the appropriate carts as always. Beginning January 2, 2022, changes will occur for singlefamily residents. All residential trash and recycling materials will be collected by Waste Pro in the green trash cart – do no use the blue recycling cart – and sent to the Wheelabrator South Broward Waste-to-Energy facility located on SR7/441 where it will be converted into electricity by incineration. By Florida statute, the incineration of refuse materials to make energy is considered recycling. Even though Waste Pro will not be collecting waste and/or recycling from the blue carts, the City is requesting that you keep your blue recycling carts for the time being – we will provide further information when the changes occur. These changes to the recycling and waste collection program DO NOT affect Condominium Residential Units (such as Century Village, Hollybrook, Park Place, Colony Point, etc.). You can find more information about the recycling transition on the city’s website at www.ppines.com. Regarding Bulk Services: The frequency of curbside bulk pick up will remain the same, which is twice a month.

Residents can view the bulk pick up schedule on the city’s website. Bulk waste is large discarded items that include, but are not limited to, white goods, toilets, pool heaters, bedding, furniture, and yard waste. Currently, residents are permitted to place an unlimited amount of bulk out for removal on monthly scheduled dates. Beginning January 1, 2022, the change that will occur involves the amount of bulk that may be placed curbside. It will be limited to 10 cubic yards. Please go to the city’s website for detailed information. Redistricting is also on topic at the present time. Everyone is welcome to attend a public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 7pm in City Commission Chambers to share input on redistricting. Analysis was presented at the October 6th Commission Meeting. For more information, please visit the City’s website at www.ppines.com, click Resident Resources on the top of the web page and then click on Redistricting. I have great hopes for a new year in which all of our best expectations are met. May it be a safe and joyous holiday season, with a happy and prosperous New Year! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 954-435-6505, or by email at fortis@ppines.com
