Comings and goings with Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis.

Hello Miramar! I am grateful to be able to reach you through this medium once more. We must continue to wear our masks when required, social distance, practice proper hygiene and follow the CDC guidelines.

On October 14th I was proud to sponsor a free lunch for the residents of Miramar to celebrate Latin Flavors as we continued to celebrate Latin Heritage Month. I would like to thank Juana’s for their partnership.

I partnered with the Miramar Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) on October 23rd for the National Prescription Drugs “Take Back” and Guns for Funds program to take unwanted guns off the streets to keep our community safe.

I was pleased to also host the “Love & Laughter” concert in our Cultural Center where the residents enjoyed the R&B sounds of Meli’sa Morgan, E.L.E.M.E.N.T.S and the comedic routine of Marvin Dixon.

I was proud to be able to once again host the annual Black British Heritage Awards and Celebration. This year we added a virtual forum on October 26th in collaboration with the British Consul General Nicolette Brent called “Black British Heritage: Past, Present & Future: highlighting the Windrush Generation and one of our own Miramar residents. I ended October with an awards celebration recognizing the contributions of Black Britons in the US in the areas of education, community engagement and business entrepreneurship with the celebrity appearance and award for entertainment going to Alison Hinds.

In November I was pleased to be able to sponsor a Thanksgiving Drive-thru once again for the residents called “Turkey & Fixins”. On November 13th the residents were given a bag of “Fixins” donated from Farm Share, Inc and on November 20th turkeys. The drive-thru was done in two locations, the Miramar Multi-service Complex on the east side of Miramar and Sunset Lakes Community Center on the west side of Miramar.

I was honored to sponsor “An Evening With an Olympian” on Tuesday November 16th at the Cultural Center. The evening was a fundraiser, and introduction to the City, for Ambassador Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce CD and her Pocket Rocket Foundation as well as the start of future collaborations. I am pleased that the event was a success and Miramar open their hearts and pockets for the Foundation!
