Foreword

My portfolio.

The end result of 14 weeks of intense development, teamwork and flexibility. Despite corona, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I have seen and felt myself growing and I couldn't be more proud of what I have achieved both individually and as a team.

Therefore, I would like to thank my coaches, labmasters, colleague labbers, teammates and family for standing by my side through this life-changing growth process.

In this portfolio, you'll find in the following order: to start with, the assessment framework: self-assessment combined with evidence. Secondly my self-management, road through 3IDLabs and a short summary about how I look back at my 3IDLabs experience.

GOAL: Self-directed sales manager What steps do I need to take?

Subgoal 1: At the end of 3IDLabs I cannot procrastinate any professional task anymore.

Actions: I will try to make an achievable day planning and try to stick to it.

I will look back at my classes from last year about effective planning.

I will take 5 minutes each day to have a look at my to-do list to conclude if it was achievable or not and take action.

Achievement: I was complimented by my teammates that I didn't have procrastinated anything yet. It was also thanks to the follow-up of them, but I felt happy that they noticed it.

For me, this was a sign of achieving this goal. We even told it in the team management presentation of 7 October.

Subgoal 2: At the end of 3IDLabs I will be able to work as a self-directed professional without follow-up from others.

Actions: Lieven gave me some interesting links, I will read them & highlight what's important for my case.

I will ask my teammates not to follow-up on me unless it's needed.

Achievement: I soon changed teams when I put this goal on.

The funny part is that in my new team, I became the follow-up person for my teammates. I have to say that I felt a perfect fit for this position. I like to have control, which made me feel like I had and it made sure I had a clear overview.

I will remember from the links that Lieven gave me that self-regulation is related to goals and that's why self-management is important because it will also make me less procrastinating because you have a goal/deadline set.

GOAL: Self-directed sales manager Subgoal 3: At the end of 3IDLabs I will be able to work with the outlook agenda on a daily basis.

Actions: I will try to stop using my written planning & get everything out of Outlook agenda, only use this tool for my professional life.

Achievement: I figured out that you could change the color of the agenda, thanks to this I could easily see if I could keep up with my work or not. Also thanks to this, I was able to plan my day realistically.

Therefore I was able to do everything on my day planning and this turned out in a satisfying feeling instead of feeling guilty for not completing my list.

Subgoal 4: After a pushback, I will be able to come back after 1 day.

Actions: I will try to work myself in, in my new team by asking questions needed to be able to follow and take proactively part in the meetings by thinking bright.

I will reflect on my feeling in the team and take quick action if needed.

I will try to create an open conversation with the team if I am not feeling well.

Achievement: Already on day two of working together in my new team, I felt integrated. There was no underlying anxiety or nerves. I had/have the feeling of being accepted and I can add everything I want to the team.I do not feel like I hold myself back. It's the feeling I want to have in a team.

GOAL: Self-directed sales manager

Subgoal 5: At the end of the week, I want to have a confident and satisfied feeling about the work that I did week.

Actions: I will take each week 30 minutes to reflect on what I did and which impact it had on my team.

If I am insecure, I will ask my teammates what they think about my work, seeking feedback.

Achievements: At the end of the week, we have our deadline meetings and I always make sure I write them down for the team so they can easily follow with the progress I make. I set this goal when 'effective effort' was placed very high by my teammates while I actually didn't feel like that for me. I didn't knew which impact these tasks had on my team. When I feel insecure, I directly ask it to Siham if she feels like I am running behind since she's the one I am in most contact with.

Subgoal 6: At the end of each week, I will take 1 hour to reflect & celebrate my own & my team's victories.

Actions: I will plan a timeslot on my agenda to only focus on the celebrations of each week, personal and team related.

I will write them down in a notebook to see how much we/I accomplished & hope to receive a very satisfying feeling.

Not achieved: I still find it difficult to really point out my celebrations. Of course, I was happy when we passed gate 2 or when the cliniclowns confirmed that they wanted to have a partnership with us and I felt a feeling of joy in my body, but it was not that I was like: woohoo let's grab a drink and celebrate this. I was able to write them down but I saw the writing down part more as a big assignment than something that would make me feel happy.

Also making time for it didn't felt very important to me. Since this is something I really want to work on, I will definitely look for other ways to make myself feel happy about what I have accomplished. I sadly think that this comes further out of my previous education where nothing was ever good enough.

GOAL: Self-directed sales manager Subgoal 7: At the end of 3IDLabs, I will have at least 5 reflections about situations where I did not feel 100% confident so I can take them with me and come back to these reflections when I am in an equal situation.

Actions: I will look for reflection tools that match the situations.

I will try to create a pro-active behavior to fill it in after a situation happened.

I will reserve a notebook as 'reflection book'.

Not achieved: I did find reflection tools, matching the situations I wanted to reflect about such as the Gibbs' reflective cycle for conflict situations in group work and The four F’s of active reviewing for celebrations. I have to say that I did not have 5 reflections at the end of 3IDLabs and I do not have the pro-active behavior to reflect immediately, which I see as a growing point such as digging into more reflection tools. I didn't reserve a notebook because I want to spare some paper and trees so I decided to make an online document.

GOAL: Self-directed sales manager

Subgoal 8: At the end of 3IDLabs, I want to have found my own kind of leadership style, the leader I want to become.

I will look at types of leadership and try to use or combine some in the team since I have a leadership position.

I will look at 5 podcasts about leadership I will come back at this by the end of 3IDLabs and write a motivation about why I use certain types of leadership styles.

Not achieved: Thanks to the help of Isabelle, I was able to learn more about leadership styles. I did not achieve this goal, why? Because I wasn't able to try enough since I came up with this goal a little too late, in my opinion, to try it out in my 3IDLabs team. Since I am the president of the student council, I will try to use some more combinations to see if I can find a combination of styles that suits me the best.

I didn't have the time yet to look for 5 podcasts, but this is on my to-do list. Since I sadly enough didn't have the time for me to practice enough, I can't write a motivation. Although I have to admit that the ones I tried, instructive and controlling suits me the best so far.

GOAL: Self-directed sales manager Subgoal 9: By the end of next week I will be able to motivate myself to get out of bed earlier.

Actions: I will look for 3 tools to get myself out of bed more easily.

I will try them and decide at the end of next week which works best and use it, in other words, change behavior.

Achievement: I was able to find 3 ways and try them all out. I tried Monday-Tuesday to place my alarm further away from my bed. Terrible idea. I got out of bed quicker but I went back to lay down and made me having a bad morning mood. On Wednesday-Thursday, I decided to make my alarm go off 20 minutes sooner and tried to do morning meditation, by recommendation of a friend of mine. Since you better meditate with your eyes closed, I had problems opening them but I felt fresh to start the day and got up. The last one, I tried this on Friday and Sunday. Sleeping with your blinds open, thought this was a good idea but as written in the description, I had troubles falling asleep since there is a street light right in front of my window. I decide to go further on with the meditation technique.

Roadmap explained

I started my 3IDLabs adventure together with 2 girls where I had never heard of before along with an even unknown case. We were groping in the dark, not knowing what was coming our way or what was expected from us.

At first, I didn’t like it at all, all of this uncertainty and no expectation but at the end of 3idlabs, I am happy to say that that chaos was needed to start growing. So, we stepped onto the road of design thinking and took our case (How can a city shape the 'food environment' and effectively apply nudges to steer its citizens towards more sustainable and healthy food choices?) with both hands. In the second week, our first confrontation and appreciation with and for feedback came, I realized quickly that I loved it because it highlighted my strengths and weaknesses.

Soon, I realized that ‘wanting to understand people’ is not the way to go and that this wouldn’t be a normal semester with people whom all look in one direction. Thanks to this realization, there was a huge storm in our team but in fact, I needed this to change my view on teamwork because now, I do like teamwork. We were able to get out of this storm but actually a little too late because all of a sudden there was gate 1. Although we thought we did great, we were dropped out. Expected? not at all and it wasn't very good for my winning mentality. I definitely wasn’t afraid to show my emotions, the tears flowed abundantly.

There wasn’t a lot of time to be sad because the day after, the job fair already took place where I entered the, in my opinion, perfect team with the biggest potential to grow and to be honest, after all I am very happy how this all turned out because I needed the ‘break-up’ from gate 1 to grow. I really felt that because between gate 1 and gate 2, my biggest changes took place. I started to see the importance of self-management, ideas to solve our case were popping up, I started appreciating coaching and the clubhouse began to form. Thanks to this, we were able to convince the jury of gate 2 and our team was expanded by Hania, Fatma and Kamiel.

The logo was developed in our last stage, as well as our financial and business plan. I focused on the booklet and dug into expertise I didn’t know anything about such as GDPR but we didn’t only work for the case, I also grew a lot personally by taking my role as leader seriously and we made room for teambuildings which made my team feel like family. Thanks to this, we were able to present a result at gate 3 where I can only be proud of. We took a well-deserved rest and are now going further with Inside out. If we can make this project come true, a bright future awaits for the palliative children.

My 3IDLabs experience When I see, how much I grew, I almost cannot believe it. The Ineke, who started on the 14th of September, is obviously not the one who’s standing here right now.

Of course, I thought I knew myself upfront... until I started 3idlabs, where I hit my head multiple times against the wall. I ran into situations I never experienced before. I wanted to get into people’s heads, while I wasn’t even able to understand myself.

On the other hand, thanks to all of this, I learned to know myself a lot better. I shined in situations and skills which I already knew I was good at and proved it to myself but I also discovered some sides of me, I would’ve probably never found without 3idlabs, for example, my creative side & my love for helping people without making it all about the money.

I needed this rollercoaster of emotions to feel ready for the real world. A real cocktail of success, sadness, tiredness, joy, satisfaction, and pride, all at once.

I think the best word to describe my experience is thankfulness. Even now, while writing this, little tears are coming up because next to my personal growth, I had the opportunity to get to know a bunch of amazing people, to learn about palliative care, a topic where I didn’t have any feeling with at all and how a team can feel like family.

I look back on this experience thankful and full of pride. Up to the real world, with 3idlabs in my head & heart and every experience that came with it.
