Gina wanted to return to the Rocky Mountains and reconnect with nature through horseback riding and hiking after recovering from an illness that robbed her of the ability to walk. Her journey took her to Glacier National Park in Montana, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, and the Black Hills Forests in Western South Dakota. I created art outside, did yoga in the mountains, took photographs, hiked, picnicked by rivers and lakes, rode horseback, and watched sunsets from the window of a secluded cabin in the woods. A defining moment for me was hiking to Avalanche Lake and leaping high into the air.

" The pandemic helped me integrate the idea that it is important to have creative renewal every day in priceless ways." Gina M. Baird @GINASKILNINGIT

Being in the mountains deepened her spiritual connection to herself and nature. The trip inspired her to create animal vessels that celebrate the life and vitality within her, as well as the symbolic gifts found in the wildlife that survive in that epic wilderness. The activities I chose centered on connection with nature, mindfulness, and elevated exploration for artmaking, especially in ceramic arts. Gina also took weekly classes in yoga, Pilates, and ceramics. She added a ceramic kiln to her home studio. Working with clay and experimenting with ceramic sculpture helped her feel more inspired to create art. My creative renewal experience improved my quality of life. I have been inspired to develop myself creatively and professionally.
