"It was a time of rest and refreshment, and also a time of transformation through the birth of new ideas."

Patrick Fata

PATRICKFATA.COM Patrick had originally planned to reconnect to his time living in Europe as a child and introduce his daughters to that part of his life. Before COVID, Patrick was preparing to take a road trip from Romania, his mother’s home country, to France, his father’s. Alternatively, he decided to explore electronic music and sound design. I spent weeks studying the basics of synthesizers. At the beginning, I was barely capable of making the most basic of sounds, but through online classes, tutorials, and experimentation, I came to a good understanding of the techniques. This exploration culminated in a retreat in a chalet in the mountains of Tennessee. I spent mornings finishing up an electronic composition, and the rest of the days enjoying time with my family.

Patrick found freedom in working on a project without inhibitions, constraints, or preconceived notions. This resulted in what he describes as personal refreshment, and he plans to ensure he and his family prioritize time together. Professionally, studying electronic music challenged his process of composition and performance. This exploration did not stop at the mere undoing of pre-existing routines: it has yielded new techniques in my creative arsenal and, most importantly, has opened new horizons.
